The Burning Plague

A cool breeze drifts down from the towering
peaks of the Serpentcoil Mountains as you behold
the entrance to the caverns. The frost-rimed
ground is littered with tools, picks and shovels,
some of which protrude from soft banks of snow.
A single darkened shaft leads into the depths of
the mine ahead. The dirt path beneath its wooden
support structure is covered with stone debris, a
few pieces of which occasionally glint with the
slightest hint of ore. No light issues forth from the
tunnel. Burnt-out torches are strewn across the
floor, their brackets torn from the shaft walls.
Behind you, the worn road leads back through the
crags to the valley below. Aside from the quiet
whistling of the wind, complete silence fills the
small clearing within the mountains.

Teannia picks up one of the burnt out torches, and with a swish of her hand makes it illuminate. She then enters the shaft, being sure to watch for anything out of the ordinary.

Aseru follows closely behind, tightly holding the hilts of his drawn short swords, wary of the evil he has been told lurks here.

Teannia picks up one of the burnt out torches, and with a swish of her hand makes it illuminate. She then enters the shaft, being sure to watch for anything out of the ordinary.

The tunnel opens into a small, roughly rectangular
chamber. Scattered chunks of silver ore surround
an overturned pair of wooden carts. The
lower half of what appears to be a human body
juts out from beneath one of the cart’s edges. It
shows no signs of movement. Dried blood is
smeared across the northern wall in several
places. Exits lead to the west and the east.

Aseru moves forward toward the body, sheathing one of his swords as he does so. He leans down to inspect the corpse.

On inspection, the body seems to have several puncture wounds.

"This person has been killed by a piercing weapon of some kind. A pick, perhaps?" Aseru stands and looks at the east and west exits. "Which way...?"

"My vote is to the west. The east seems to be... unlucky for me." she says. "You may lead, sir."

"Very well." Aseru stands up and extends his arm, open-handed, toward Teannia. "Give me the torch."

Aseru holds the torch in his left hand and a short sword in his right. He begins to walk down the western exit, looking for anything out of the ordinary.

This large, square room houses four long wooden
tables, each with a bench on either side. On top of
the tables lie a number of wooden bowls and
eating utensils. In the southeast corner of the
room, a small stewpot steams over a fireplace
carved into the floor. A pungent odor hangs in the
air.

Aseru draws his short sword, and moves forward into the room. He looks around for any possible entrances or exits. "Perhaps we went the wrong way?"

"We couldn't have. There must be something around here somewhere." She begins searching every corner of the room, including the ceiling.

"Why of course I will!" She casts Light on his sword, with a flick of her hand. "Here, hand me the torch, I'll tie it to my side."

You find out that the door is locked, upon attempting to open the door, you hear dog-like yapping on the other side.

The door breaks open, reveiling the next room.

This long, narrow room is lined with shelves
loaded with foodstuffs and supplies. Heavy burlap
sacks are piled atop one another in the corners of
the chamber. A few have been torn open, leaving
spills of oats and flour along the floor. Several barrels
stand in a cluster near the far northern wall.

In this room you see six kabolds, and by the look of their loaded crossbows, you can tell that they were ready for you.

With a swing of his sword, Aseru cleave kobold 5....in two, obviously killing it.

Kobold 4 shoots his crossbow at Teannia, but it backfires and shoots itself in the leg, impairing its movement.

Aseru moves quickly to betwixt the two nearest Kobolds, hoping to shield his wizard friend from harm. He then quickly lashes out with both of his swords at the small creatures in front of him.

Kobold 3 barly manages to avoid the attack, but kobold 6 isn't so lucky, and is killed by one of the swords.

Kobold 4, seeing what happened, drops its crossbow and pulls out a spear, haveing its sights set on Aseru.

when kobold 4 realizes that it's alone, it starts to retreat toward the only exit, which is the one you came from.

When you start to search the first barrel, a flour sack on the ceiling, is torn by a ripcord that was attached to the barrels, the area around you suddenly becomes clouded by flour.

The black-haired man says to Teannia, as he looks around the room. He spots the bodies of the dead Kobolds and notices that they have yet to be relieved of their possessions. Aseru searches the various draconic creatures for anything of value.

After searching the kobolds, you feel a bit uneasy.

Besides a undone rip cord and a lot a spilled flour, you see nothing unusual around the barrels.

After being disturbed, the rats attack.

Seeing that there is no hope left, Aseru pulls out his sword. He holds it in a reverse position, and with a quick thrust plunges it into his heart. Blood spurts from his chest and oozes slowly from his mouth as he collapses to the ground, dead.

Aseru quickly puts the lid back on the barrel and sprints back to town.

Teannia abandons all hope of finding rewards in this dungeon, and sets off to find a different one, with less rats.

Aseru looks at the armored man. "That mine is a horrible place. The people of this town will never be safe as long as those creatures are still alive." The blonde-haired man sets down his ale. "Then it is my duty to destroy them. Whatever is down there, I'm sure I can handle it." Aseru tells the man "You're a fool! A damned fool... But..." He reaches into his backpack. "Here, take this." Aseru produces a small gemstone. "I think it might have something to do with the evils..." The blonde man accepts the gem, and lays down a copper piece on the counter to pay for his ale. "I shall make sure no harm comes to the people of this town. Thank you." And with that, the armored stranger leaves the tavern, sword clanking against his side as he searches for the mine.

On the way out of town, you see a wizard-looking elf woman coming in.
