Draken vs. Zipding

A towering figure in a dark robe enters the room where you have been milling around sizing up the competition. His face is completely obscured by his hood. He raises both hands to get your attention and speaks in a deep voice.
Hound, Khut. You have been chosen to fight. Prepare yourselves! With that he brings his hands down and the two of you find yourself transported to the arena (http://excessivefreetime.org/arena/arena3.html)

OOC:
You've got time for one swift action and one standard action before you get transported in case you need to adopt a stance or activate an item.

On the map, green is open terrain, yellow is difficult terrain, red/brown is the cliffs (10ft, Climb DC20, blocks LoS). Arena has a 60 foot ceiling.

Opening post should have an initiative roll, anything you said after he called your name and what, if anything you did with the 'surprise round' before being transported. After that, start fighting in initiative order.

Draken
The Hound of Doom starts at D10, and cannot see Khut.
Zipding
Khut starts at AD28, and cannot see the Hound of Doom.

The hound howls and suddenly it bursts forward, but after gathering momentum from only a few feet, he stops, opening it's maw and shooting a viciously lashing tongue against Khut.

They are on the previous post, when I failed to make the rolls.

Both are DC 24.

Don't forget that for the first you took 2 negative levels, so you suffer s -2 penalty. And for the next one you suffered another 2 negative levels, so you suffer a -4 penalty.

Edit: You suffer similar penalties on your attack rolls (and grapple checks) but still succeed on both of them anyway.

Zipding
2009-08-26, 04:44 PM
Fort save(if needed)
[roll0]

[roll1]

Draken
2009-08-26, 04:47 PM
And you succeed on both saves too. Congratulations.

Your turn.

You suffered 25 damage and 4 negative levels.

These four negative levels mean you have a -4 to attack rolls, saves and skill checks. And also lost another 20 HP.

My AC is 47. Touch 29, Flat-foot 42. I am in J17. And have concealment (Child of Shadow)

Zipding
2009-08-26, 04:52 PM
I make both even with the penalties.
Khut, Round 3
"Say your prayers, thing." He says before preparing his onslaught.

Swift Action: Use Distracting Ember.
Move Action: Move to J23
Standard Action: Charge to J19, Stormtrooper, full Power Attack, Irresistable Mountain Hammer, Leap Attack(I don't need the Jump check, I auto make it,)
Rolls(I hit on 10 or higher.)
Attack
Crit confirm(if needed)[roll1]

Draken
2009-08-26, 04:59 PM
Did you count the attack and skill penalty? It's a hefty -4 to both.

Draken
2009-08-26, 05:04 PM
Also, in spite of the name, Irresistible Mountain Hammer allows a fortitude save. Which I have a hefty amount of.

[roll0]

Zipding
2009-08-26, 05:23 PM
I did, -4, +2 for flanking, +2 for charging, also, my Jump modifier is +25 after penalties

Draken
2009-08-26, 05:33 PM
Right.

By the way, a charge is a full round action. Not a standard action. Is that 10 feet move back necessary for something?

Zipding
2009-08-26, 05:43 PM
Then instead of moving back, I'll just charge. My AC in 13 now

Draken
2009-08-26, 06:03 PM
Alright.

Total damage suffered: 93.

The hound takes a 5 foot step to J18.

On purpose. The hound has eaten levels. So he gains +4 Strength, +4 Constitution and +2 to all saves and skill checks. This means he gained 30 hit points, all his attack rolls went up by +2 and damage rolls went up comparatively.

Swift Action: Dancing Mongoose.
Full-round action: Full attack. Attack sequence is Tongue, Tongue, Bite, Bite.

Bites are not dependant on grapple checks this time. They will happen no matter what. Saving throws against paralyzis are now 26. Your first save on this round is now made at a -6 penalty due to negative levels and the second one at -8 due to negative levels.

Tongue Attack: [roll0]
Tongue Critical confirmation: [roll1]
Tongue Damage: [roll2], and 2 Negative levels.
Paralyzis time: [roll3]
Grapple Check: [roll4]

Tongue Attack: [roll5]
Tongue Critical confirmation: [roll6]
Tongue Damage: [roll7], and 2 Negative levels.
Paralyzis time: [roll8]
Grapple Check: [roll9]

Bite Attack: [roll10]
Bite Critical confirmation: [roll11]
Bite Damage: [roll12], and 2 Negative levels.

Bite Attack: [roll13]
Bite Critical confirmation: [roll14]
Bite Damage: [roll15], and 2 Negative levels.

Draken
2009-08-26, 06:07 PM
...

Actually. It just hit me. Because the dog drained levels from you last round, his Con went up by 4 and the DC went to 26.

So you failed the second save and were paralyzed.

Zipding
2009-08-26, 06:08 PM

The Hound of Doom feasts on the last few remmants of his opponent's soul, howling victoriously.

Zipding
2009-08-26, 06:13 PM
I lost a lot of damage thanks to negative levels. If I didn't lose those levels, the damage would be 3d8+1d6+117 damage on top of Ancient Mountain Hammer damage of 12d6. I may switch out my guy for another warblade/swordsage gestalt character who may overall be better, I'll do playtesting of these at home and see which is better.

Draken
2009-08-26, 06:29 PM
Eeeh. Actually you didn't do any damage at all. I posted at the end of the previous page.

This is how it went on that first attack of mine:

On the first tongue attack, you took 2 negative levels. Lowering your fort save to +14, and then rolled a 12 on your fortitude save, for a result of 26.

However, at the same time, the hound gained 4 points of constitution, which raised the DC to 26. You still made it.

But on the second tongue attack, you rolled another 12, but suffered another -2 to your save. Resulting in a 24 against DC 26, thus, you were paralyzed.

You Irresistible Mountain hammer attack, and the full attack I performed after that actually didn't happen because you had already lost on the previous round.

Zipding

Ouch. That's your fighting style, paralyze them for minutes. Mine is the glass cannon, deal as much damage as possible, then die

Just reading through this (no thread necromancy intended, but the result of the match hasn't been posted yet), and it's very entertaining (level loss is a pain to deal with though, to the consternation of any of the Hound's opponents :P). However, a few things:
1. You may want to pm Lynd the match results.

2. I don't know how Telepathy works, but unless it allows you to pinpoint your opponent's location, neither of your characters could see the other as of Hound's action in Turn 1 (when you began moving towards each other) because of cliffs in squares E10-E11 and M23-L24. You may want to mask your movement coordinates until the DM rules line of sight is established.

3. Zipding failed to make the 51+ needed to overcome concealment in his attack (before you realized he'd been paralized), so it wouldn't have worked anyway.

In any case your fight was fun to read
