View Full Version : Eberron: Voyage of the Golden Dragon

In 993 YK, the Brelish military commissioned a joint endeavor of House Lyrandar, House Medani, and the royal magewrights. Well funded by King Boranel’s coffers, the Golden Dragon was to be the crown jewel of Breland’s armada, and the flagship for a new fleet of airships unlike anything Khorvaire had seen before.
The mammoth project labored on for three years, plagued by setbacks and constant delays. Even before the Golden Dragon’s complicated elemental binding processes were perfected, the Last War was over. The Treaty of Thronehold brought with it new opportunities and prosperity, however. The mighty airship’s half-constructed skeleton wallowed in a private
Lyrandar dock in Sharn for another year before a concern of private investors doled out a tidy sum to the Brelish crown to acquire it. Now, the Golden Dragon is about to embark on a different role in the skies. As a luxury cruise airship, it will tour Khorvaire’s farthest reaches and beyond.

Tonight, in Tower Lyrandar, house Lyrandar will unveil it's best kept secret to the elites of Sharn. Even the Lord Mayor, Cathan ir’Demell and several council members are in attendance. Indeed, this may prove to be the social event of the year.

Sandra and Thoryk's Prologue:
Among the socialites, investors, and nobles are 2 priests hold in high regard in their church asked to bless the captain and ship. Both shining examples of their faith and for which this great honor was bestowed. It is not house Lyrandar's tradition to seek the blessing of the Sovereign Host, but they have placed much of their resources into this new project and wish not to take any risks. Thoryx is tasked bless the champange to be broken on the hull, while Sandra will bless the wine the captain uses in his toast. If the rumors you heard of this captain are true, he may need it. "This will be a great opportunity to expose the elites of Sharn and the dragonmarked to the glory of the Sovereign Host. Please be on your best behavior." The high priest said said as the two clerics donned their sacraments for the party.

Daron's Prologue:
A retired soldier of the last great war now finds his skills for hire to highest bidder. Once he was called Captain Daron, but that was when the world was upside-down. Now in a time of peace Daron has found that skills with wand and sword are in high demand, especially among the wealthy. Today would be an typical day for him. A minor noble called Auir Nalvick, has hired him as security detail for him during the christening of some airship. "Just being rich is a crime for the peasants. Jealousy often turns to violence" he makes an exaggerated sigh "I can't tell you how often I've been panhandled while in lower Menthis. Can't they just get a job (and a trust fund)? Geez!" Daron wonders what a respectable person would be doing in a place famous for its brothel in doing in lower Menthis in the first place but refrains from saying anything. Another day another rich brat that needs protecting......at least the money is good.

Lalah, Richter, & Burn:
In a dingy lab somewhere in Cliffside, a young, well dressed merchant wipes hs feet under the wooden sign "Richter & Co: liberating artifact, relics and stuff cira: 995". He enters and greets the wizard and a warforged warmly and looks around the lab. "Ah I see that elf isn't here, oh well I am in a hurry so I won't wait for her to come back. You see I have to get out of town last minute but I have tickets to this exclusive party in Lyrandar tower tonight. I hope you three will accept it as a token of my thanks for that wonderful item you recovered for me last time. It will fun and good for business" he said with a wink. Being about the meet the Lord Mayor himself, how could this bunch say no?

The doorman checks everyone's tickets and lets you in to the top floor of Lyrandar Tower where the party is in full swing. There you see a floating airship fills the night sky, suspended 200 feet off the ground alongside Lyrandar Tower balcony. The housings for not one but two elemental rings surround the giant vessel—one blazing and crackling with flame, the other dormant and dark. The ship herself is near 200 feet long and over 60 feet across at her thickest. The Sovereign Host alone knows what device or artifice could keep such a behemoth aloft. Soarwood tinged with gold and carved with scale and talon motifs makes up her body. Her front bow is rendered into an enormous dragon’s head with fanged mouth gaping wide.

Many notable figures from high ranking House members, council members and even the mayor himself are enjoying the wine provided by Sannid's, one of Sharn's most renowned wineries. Dancers and bards from the ship's private casino, Jenk's House of Chance, provide the entertainment for the night.

A crowd of well-wisher surround a half elf dressed to the nines in a navy cloak with golden glitter. The elf is cordial and gracious to all that offer him their hand.

Feel free to explore the party and mingle as you see fit. You can go to the ship as well or stay on the roof of the tower.

The sights and sounds entertained Redard Richter III highly. He felt like he belonged in the presence of such high class revelry that it took all he could to maintain his demeanor.

"Ah, now this is more like it." Redard Richter said, a glass of wine in one hand, and a little tiny piece of meat on an equally tiny stick in the other. "Wining and dining in high society aboard such a majestic piece of technology! Gentlemen, this is the life.

Redard Richter III was dressed in the height of fashion. A beautiful red robe, and a flowing red cape draped upon his shoulders. He mixed well with the nobles. His trimmed goatee served to frame his angular face. His stance, the way he walked, it was like he would rather soon let the world bend than become inconvenienced by it.

A young teenage girl who is suited in expensive, well shined and glossy full plate armor could be seen ridding a lift obviously bored. It was strange to see such a young teenage girl in such heavy armor especially one that was so well crafted and adorned with Holy Symbols of the Sovereign Host. However She was known through out the land as a child prodigy and seemed to be blessed with an innate strength that even surpasses most Orcs. Because of Sandra’s blessed strength she was selected to bless the toasting whine despite her reservation to due so stating her talents would be better used with adventuring. Nevertheless as Sandra reached the top floor and turned to face the new Airship she was a bit taken back perhaps due to the sheer size or elegance of the ship. With the initial shock waning Sandra then makes her way towards the well dressed half-elf in navy attire.

“Good Day Sir, My name is Sandra of the Sovereign Host” Said Sandra being as courteous as possible minding all the local customs and courtesy briefed to her.

"Ah! You must be Sandra! Blessed is Kol Korran*!"

The half-elf shakes Sandra's hand heartily. You can a hint of his dragonmark of storm on the left of his neck.

"I am Captain Alastair d'Lyrandar, captain of the Dragon. I was informed that you would blessing our wine today. Please enjoy yourself tonight, you and your fellow cleric truly do grace us with your presence. If there is anything at all you need tonight please let anyone of my crew know."

A dwarf with years to back him up silently follows Sandra to where he thinks he's supposed to go. His beige, tarnished armor is a large contrast to the glossy armor Sandra wears. Thoryk makes no effort to introduce himself, being not keen on introductions, and he would likely make the conversation awkward. Thoryk, quiet as he can, tries to wander to the edge of the roof to get a better look at the airship.

For Richter
"Why, isn't that Rederd Richter!?"
You hear among the crowd, you turn around and see your preceptor Professor Marvelli with a lovely, lithe elvish girl that clearly was not his wife. You think you saw her in class once...... He leans over to give you a hug and you clearly smell the whiskey from his breath.

"Why I never figured you for parties! And you even brought security with you!" He gestures to the elven in armor, and the awkward warforged behind you. "Did you come into some great fortune you are not sharing with the university? HAHAHA!"

He hands his empty bottle to a gentle looking half-orc wearing a sailor's outfit and brushes him off.

For Thoryk:
As you wander onto the ship you notice the main deck is adorned with brass railings wrought into twisting dragons swallowing each other’s tails surround the area above deck. This open-air space offers a splendid view of swirling clouds and a dizzying tapestry of dancing stars. The deck and most of the ship is dimly lit by everbright lanterns to create a festive atmosphere. When you look down to the cargo bay you spot minotaur laborers bring crates and luxury travel bags up the ramp in contrast to the party going on. One of the crates required 3 minotaurs to haul onto the ship. One Medani guard watches them and denies access to all who do not have clearance.

"ah Holy man we are waiting on you before we start dinner in the reception hall this way please." says the same towering but gentle half-orc that was serving drinks a second ago. "I am the bosun of the ship, Velgram Linntorm, the captain is sorry that he couldn't show you around properly but your blessing will be needed soon, the VIPs are getting hungry." Velgram quickly shoves a bottle of 20 year old champagne into your hands, cups you in his massive hands and shuttles you to the front of the ship. All eyes turn to you expectantly......

Thoryk stands for a few seconds before noticing he's holding some champagne. He can't figure out what he's supposed to do, since he'd never done this kind of thing. With nothing else to do, he enchanted the bottle on the spot with his holy magic, and cast Protection from Evil (for good measure). He looks for a response, hopefully positive. The High Priest would not like him to mess up and be tossed off the ship before it even deported.

Burn

Burn is a large, man-sized construct made of slick, black adamantine, with growths of blue and gray crystal that glimmer through joints and cracks in his armor. A newer kind of warforged, he exhibits gracefully contoured lines and sleek features, with none of the clunkiness of some earlier forged designs. His large hands have 5 articulate fingers each, and they are capable of crushing strength, though they might not be nimble enough for caligraphy. His neck is reinforced with strong cables and hydraulics, an a long, goring horn protrudes from his forehead, making him over 7 feet tall when standing upright.

Despite his awesome construction, Burn moves with a ponderous gait that clearly irritates him, though his enormous strength and durability more than make up for his lack of speed and mobility in combat.

An intense heat radiates out from Burn, coming from a micro furnace buried somewhere in his heavily armored core. This energy extends out to his extremities via special conductive crystal cells and alloys, allowing him to generate searing heat at his fingertips with the merest whim.

Burn's right forearm is completely encased in a massive, clawed gauntlet of darkest adamantine. A large bastard sword is secured to his back by some sort of podlike contraption, and a large, projectile-shooting contraption is mounted on his left forearm.

Burn makes his way out into the night air, gawking at the partygoers and their expensive wardrobes and glittering jewels.

We could make a killing here, Burn! There is enough finery here to fuel the ol' furnace for a decade!

The psiforged is too distracted by the party to pay attention to the larcenous thoughts of his subconscious, though the few citizens that were close enough to be involved in the psicrystal's telepathic comments turn and look around, wondering who whispered in their heads.

The psiforged finally tears his gaze away from the revelry and regards the enormous airship.

You think it'll collapse if you set foot on it? The psicrystal asks curiously.

"Beats me." Burn answers, drawing the gaze of those around him with his deep, humming bass, the sound of precision machinery, "There is only one way to find out."

With that, the psiforged shoulders his way patiently through the crowd, arrowing for the boarding ramp. He is very curious to see if his elemental furnace would siphon power from the extraordinary engines of the airship, though he doubted that they would even dim in power with his small presence.

Walking the ramp, Burn nods to the guards at the rail and steps onto the deck. He waits for a moment, listening for the sputtering flames of the ship's active ring, or the groaning sound of sagging deck planks.

Nothing. The construction of this ship requires so much magical energy that even his greedy furnace has apparently no effect on it.

That was an impressive construct. Burn nods his head in admiration and runs his gauntleted right hand across the well-oiled deck rails.

"Beautiful."

Aellas Tia'ryl

A very pretty and curvy elf with dirty-blonde hair and blue eyes attends the party with Rederd. Some may think she might fit better with the various dancers and bards on board. If it were not for her refined-looking chain shirt that she sports over her clothing, one would not be able to tell that she was anything but a dancer. Her short skirt made out of leaves may be a bit strange in the fashion world, but elves will be elves and the men don't seem to complain.

"A pleasure to meet you, Professor Marvelli..." she extends a graceful hand covered in a thin, silk-like glove. "I am Aellas, an associate of Mr Richter. We have uncovered many treasures together."

Daron Kruznet

Among the various functionaries and hangers-on of one minor lord, in a sea of nobles and courtiers, a red haired man of average height and strong build stands rigidly straight. His clothing is obviously rugged and cut first to allow free movement, and yet the skill of the tailor shows that it was also designed to meet approval under the aesthetic sensibilities of high society. A well polished, brilliant mithral breastplate, curiously devoid of any insignia or heraldry, is prominent on the man's torso, and an observant listener may make out the clinking of mail links, probably hidden underneath the top layer of clothing. A large scabbard, elegant yet understated, hangs from the man's back; the crossguard and pommel meticulously polished and the grip freshly wrapped. At first glance, the man would look to be some fantastical parody of an "ideal" soldier, were it not for the intensity of his sharp, hard eyes set into a clean shaven face wearing a stern, wary expression, and the deliberate, economical nature of his movement.

****

Daron, although not much for these high society gatherings, was experienced enough in them to be bemused rather than overwhelmed. Serving as a junior officer in the Aundair forces, society gatherings such as these were very much an official part of his duties, seeing that Aundair was fond (too much so) of the trappings of nobility. Though he dreaded it at the time, in retrospect, he was glad for this portion of the service, as it had paid dividends in the years following the Last War: it was hard to find competent bodyguards who could blend in at society functions. Some mercenaries seemed to think that "being prepared" was synonymous with "wearing ratty clothing and dingy equipment." Of course, there was a time and place for that too - just not here...

Daron noted the dwarf priest's discomfort with some sympathy. He figured the dwarf was more a man of action than of niceties, and that the honor of christening such a ship may have been more a burden than a reward to the dwarf. However, the dwarf preformed adequately and the night seemed able to progress without incident. Daron returned to his thoughts after scanning the crowd again. He was thirsty but everything he found so far was alcoholic - a bad idea for one on guard. Maybe he could find something to drink...

After Nalvick gave his order, Daron replies: "Very well... make sure you follow closely in my wake. Any 'openings' I make will quickly fill up behind me."

After getting Nalvick's agreement to do so, Daron mentally shrugs and begins clear a small path towards the ship's captain. Helping a charge navigate a crowd was hardly glorious, but a common and big part of the job - that is, the job of hired muscle. Daron did his best to push through the crowd, checking behind occasionally to make sure Nalvick did not fall behind. Thankfully, the young lord was good at following without much trouble.

The crowd thickened around the ship's captain, and started to seem to push back more often and more forcefully. It seemed, naturally, that other nobles with the same intention had their own hired thugs blazing a trail to the captain. Regardless, Daron knew his job and got to the captain without much incident. The captain seemed to be speaking with a young female in plate armor. After pausing a moment, Daron reached out a hand to gain the young woman's attention and interrupt as politely as he could - Nalvick would likely have no patience for waiting.

Unfortunately, there was a particularly violent and unexpected shift in the crowd at that moment (likely caused by less professional thugs than Daron), and Daron found himself overbalanced. He ended up putting too much weight into his outstretched arm and knocked over the armored woman before he could recover. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Nalvick smoothly maneuver around him and into the gap left by the now kneeling woman.

Seeing that his charge was engaged with the ship's captain, Daron extends his hand to the young woman, a genuinely apologetic look on this face. He quickly took note of the symbols of the Sovereign Host on her armor, and decided to speakk in the practiced voice of a military officer at a formal occasion.

"I am sorry, lady cleric of the Host. I was trying to guide my employer to speak with the captain, and the crowd's shifting took me by surprise. I meant no disrespect. You are, I hope, not too much worse for the wear?"

“You should be more careful, although people here are civilized they still may hold a grudge with political influences to make your life less pleasant. Luckily I don’t really care” Said Sandra in an almost joking but snide as she turned and faced the person who accidentally shoved her and ignoring his comment.

To Burn and Thoryk:
While chatting and looking over the observation deck you note 4 harpoon stands that still look operational. Even with the decorative engravings and gilded facade, it was still odd to see such a deadly weapon on a luxury airship. Beneath you, the minotaurs are still slaving away with the ships supplies. According to the manifest, ship's maiden voyage was not for another 2 weeks but already it was booked to capacity. As both of you watch a group of 8 people (you cannot make out exactly in the dark and din) approach the Mendani guard and show him some papers. The Mendani guard lets them through without question.

"Ahh the plumbers finally showed up!" said a females voice behind you. You turn to see a female half-elf in a windwright jacket. The insignia on shoulder indicating the rank of Lieutenant. "I am first mate Mazzia d’Lyrandar. I was ordered to escort you to your seats and make sure those plumbers arrived. A lot of work going, don't be fooled by the party! Come now." Daron was glad the armored girl was willing to let the matter go for such a short price. For a moment, long familiar instincts had screamed of imminent violence.

"That is a most fair bargain, Lady...? My name is Daron Kruznet... or Darret, if you prefer," he added with a wry smile and a slight nod toward Nalvick. "What is your preference in drink? I will hasten to retrieve it for you while my charge is enthralled with what is undoubtedly to be the highlight of his night."

He quickly scans the crowd looking for the nearest bar, or failing that, a drink server. As Nalvick squeals in delight, he spares a quick nod toward Nalvick, thinking *I probably shouldn't tell him I've met Queen Aurala.*

Burn went off on his own and is on the observation deck with Thoryk and not presently with you.

The elf failed her save. Unsurprisingly she has an INT of 16 which is what you would expect of elven wizard. The professor made his save and has an INT of 21 you will not be able to glean anymore from him.

You note that the the heavy wooden door to the lab has an elaborate lock on it. Whoever made this room meant for it to locked. As you approach the lab you hear two people in a heated argument.

"...........I absolutely forbid you from making something like that in my lab! I don't care how much gold you bribed the captain with!" you hear a gruff voice say.

"The contract states I can do anything I want here, lord knows I'm paying enough for it! Restricting me from making anything 'too dangerous' in a state of the art lab is preposterous!"

Just as the four of you reach the top of the stairs, a halfling storms out of the room and mutters under his breath: "That stubborn mule! Must I always wait until he's asleep to get any work done!?

At the center of the room you a clearly upset dwarf. Like most of artificers he is loaded with scrolls, potions and wands.

As you look around the room you notice several polished steel tables stand in this spacious room. Along all the walls, counters are cluttered with beakers filled with multicolored fluids, some of which froth and bubble. Metal instruments and various runestones and tomes lay upon some of the tables, and hollowed molds of various shapes are wrought into others.

"Dramgrin! I hope I'm not interrupting anything important." said the Professor.I wanted to introduce you to a student of mine, Rederd Richter.

"Ah professor, pardon me but as you know we rent this lab for scholars on the field. That halfling you just saw was Torren Blackfinger saying he wanted to make some kind of custom explosive wards, IN MY LAB! Gah! Sorry laddie I'm Manteen Dramgrin head artificer and sometime shipwright of the Golden Dragon."

Ah I'm glad to see you have become so attatched to this lab. Indeed it would be hard to see a lab like this even on campus. I understand the first voyage will be to Xen'dirk, I'm sure this lab will see much use for all the wonders you are sure to find there.

His psicrystal snorts, Smooth move, Burn. Maybe you'll charm your clumsy self into her bedsheets tonight. Not that you'd be able to do anything once there...

Ok I just thought you would want to keep the voices to yourself but since you don't mind I'm fine with it.

"This way then gentlemen."the first mate said. She spoke as she leads the two of you to the stairs."This was supposed to be the crown jewel of Breland armada, able to carry more troops, more firepower, it even had a lab to create magical ammunition for its cannons. Now the lab is for research, the cannons have been traded for satin sheets but have no doubt, this is the greatest airship in all the land. Even the "sea barons" of the Lhazaar principalities cannot compete with the Dragon. The two elemental rings use a special hybrid element binding process. I'm sure Velgrim would be happy to show you the elemental binding rooms if you asked him afterall you did bless the ship Thoryk."

Mazzia seemed to sign a little when she mentioned Velgrim's name.

Here we are sirs, we will be sitting in the front, please tell your pet rock to mind his mouth, the Lord Mayor is not a humorous person"

The reception hall is an enormous chamber is filled with ornately carved tables and chairs of burnished mahogany. Curtains of striking velvet drape from arches above, and fine tapestries adorn the walls. The place is already half full by the time the three of you arrive, with the Lord Mayor at the front of the room chatting to several Mandani and Lyrandar house masters and council members.

"Cheers to the Golden dragon!" Everyone said in unison.

Dinner quickly starts after Sandra's prayer with the finest delicacies of Khorvaire. Halfway through the main courses a surly chef followed by an equally surly rottweiler, comes to both of your tables and says rather unceremoniously;
"I am the head chef Jaeden Kovane, how's your food?" Before anyone can answer the Kovane says: "No need to answer I know it is amazing. Now if you don't mind I have to whore myself to the patrons."

He walks away with his dog following close behind.

Ahh that is the platinum chef Jaeden, he was once called the best chef in Khorvaire, until one day he just retired. It took great pains to get him out of retirement (as well a lot of gold). His disposition doesn't exactly endear him, but we wanted to make sure our passengers had the best food money could buy. explained the captain. He feels that making rounds like is beneath him.

As you observe the table you see Mazzai looking distractingly at Velgrim, Alastair is chatting with the nobles and house masters. You are also introduced to a shifty halfling (another one) Kalibar Jenks who runs and owns the House of chance. Occasionally he will go to check on his workers to make sure they are not cheating.

The last member is an elven monk by the name of Zan who runs a massage and meditation parlor called the "Serenity in the Sky". Both Jenks and Zan invite you to come to their establishments if you ever board the Dragon.

Burn is at a loss as to what he should do in this situation. His metal and stone brows lift at the hobgoblin's words, and he wonders why this homid thinks that he is afraid of fire and death.

Then a civilian gets his head splattered against the bulkhead. The psiforged growls, his desire for blood and destruction increasing by the second. But in a secondary, distracted way, the psiforged does pity the poor victim.

His psicrystal notes Burn's concern, Don't worry. This is what rich people hire healers and priests for; if that guy's family was loaded, he'll be walking around again in no time. If they were poor, well then, rest in peace...

Burn shrugs, not understanding humanoid ways enough to realize the best course of action here, "Well, this is not my boat or my party, so I will defer to Thoryk. Dwarf, what do your conscience and the divine mandates of the gods say?"

"Crap, crap, crap! Er..." Thoryk rushes over to the Hobgoblins, not close enough to be reached in six seconds, but close enough to talk to.

Info on Dreadhold
The prison island of Dreadhold rests off the northern ranges of Cape Far. It was first established by Karrn the Conqueror as a place for exiling overthrown rulers or aristocrats who have fallen from favor, it was eventually converted by the early Galifar kings into an almost inescapable prison for those too important to execute and too dangerous to be left free. The dwarves of House Kundarak maintain the prison, which houses the most dangerous criminals from across the continent, including numerous war prisoners sent here for wartime atrocities. Most of the dwarves consider a tour of duty at Dreadhold to be equivalent to exile, but the bearers of the Mark of Warding make sure the prison stays secure despite the drabness of the place. Rumors persist that an important prisoner from Karrnath is interred here, and that the dwarves use the prisoners to mine Khyber dragon shards from deep chasms beneath the island

"Well looks like someone here values your lives. Now everyone upstairs! I have some friends I want you to meet." Brakker says with an evil grin. The minotaurs and 8 of the hobgoblins herd the crowd up the stairs onto the main deck, while Brakker instructs the remaining 2 hobgolbins to take the gold out of the house of chance.

Brakker goes to Captain Alastairs and says
"All we want is our gold and you and your ship will be safe and sound, and we want it withing the next 15 minutes. I'm sure Tower Lyrander has half a million hidden somewhere...... or should I ask the Lord Mayor? I'm not sure how much faith he will have in House Lyrander after this though hahahaha.

"No need to ask the Mayor, House Lyrander will pay the ransom, but 15 is...... just fine. Alastairs said just as another thug lifted his hammer over a girl's head. So much for the Host's blessing muttered Alastair.

Burn's countenance darkens to a a simmering crimson as his agitation grows–agitation over his inability to merely destroy an enemy because of the presence of complications of the living, breathing variety.

He knows though, that even if battle does not break out on the ship, he will track the murderers down by whatever means are available, and that he will engage them until one or the other party is destroyed.

Though he would prefer to simply engage them now, Burn yields to Thoryk's attempts to negotiate, and he therefore stands back quietly, letting those better suited to such social battles take the floor. He will be there when it comes time for bloodshed and mass carnage.

since this is the surprise round, on his turn, burn spends 3pp as swift act for hustle, moves diagonally forward one square (*grumble, gripe*) to flank sandra, and then spends his standard act on expansion for 1pp.

if your rules for surprise rounds are different, and burn can make a move act or a 5-foot step too, then scratch the swift act for hustle and just include a normal move.

10pp used so far

buffs: expansion (large), vigor (30 thp)

what kind of armor are they wearing and what kind of weapons does this closest bad guy have?

note that with expansion and this move, i now threaten that first enemy.

Burn is suddenly stepping forward; as he moves, he grows, and reaching behind him, his bastard sword fairly springs into hand. He now towers over the crowd around him, looking down on the closest hobgoblin with furious anticipation, sword up and ready to rock.

Taking a deep breath, Aellas as a hobgoblin speaks boldly and loudly, "We know what you are up to, Telgrin. And I won't let you blow up this entire ship, fellow hobgoblins, minotaurs and all! You're crazy, and we're going to take you DOWN before you doom ALL of us by blowing us to kingdom come. I won't let you harm my comrades!"

Turning to the rest of the hobgoblins, "Onwards, to VICTORY!"

Bluff and spending an Inspiration point to buff the roll: [roll0]

And do note that currently, Aellas has positioned herself so that Telgrin stands between her and Kray. This was deliberate. He's got nowhere to run.

Sandra grits her teeth as the minotaur landed its blow on her. This was the first time someone has dealt lethal damage to her. Sandra then glared at the Minotaur and gripped her sword just then she heard such smooth and captivating song and then begins to focus her attention towards the harpy who started singing, and began to wanting to walk towards the harpy.

Exertion shadows over Daron's face as he fights off the harpy's siren song while keeping his defenses against the minotaur. The moment passes, but he feels no relief as he see Sandra's posture falter and watches her walk toward the singing harpy. Realizing what happened, he mutters a quick spell and reaches out to touch the cleric.

i'm still not sure which order i'm going in, so i'll post now. if things change sufficiently that i need to revise my act, i will.

Burn deflects a blow from his opponent, and then turns to finish it off, weapons smashing into its defenses. Then he looks about, searching for more foes and then looking to the stairwell going belowdeck.

my action depends upon whatever the battle map looks like when it comes up.

if the minotaur is still up, full attack.

if the minotaur is already dead, or if burn's first hit drops it, he will move to the closest enemy and if he still has an action, he will use a standard act to initiate steel wind, gaining two sword attacks.

if no enemies are left up top, burn will double move toward the downstairs.

Daron, seeing that his spell successfully blinded his opponents, quickly dodges past them and runs toward the stair.

"I'm going to try to find Char!" he yells to Sandra and Burn.

Daron should provoke no Attacks of Opportunity running past the blinded foes
Blinded characters treat opponents as having total concealment. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/conditionSummary.htm#blinded)

You can't take attacks of opportunity against opponents with total concealment. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/combatModifiers.htm#concealment)

When he gets down the stairs, he sees hobgoblins locked in combat with a human and a warforged. Daron assumes that some hobgoblins did not like the idea of being blown up with the ship and are trying to fight their way free. He decides the warforged and human are his immediate enemies.

Daron casts Bands of Steel (Ref Save DC 19 or immobilized for 5 rounds) on the Warforged.

If the spell succeeds, he ends his turn.

If the spell falls, he activates his Belt of Battle for another standard action and casts Slow on the Warforged (Will Save DC 18 or partial actions only). If Char is within 30 ft. of the Warforged, he is affected and needs to save as well.

Well, luckily for Lalah she's got anklets of translocation. Time for a 10-ft teleport as a swift action. They don't provoke hehe. Also, the Seeking enchantment should've taken care of any concealment or cover the Warforged may grant, but in this case it won't make much of a difference.

Aellas Tia'ryl

Seeing that the bulky warforged is indeed blocking her shots, Aellas speaks a word softly and almost instantly appears behind Kray and next to Telgrin. Quickly taking a step backwards (5ft step AWAY from Kray) before the warforged can react, she takes careful aim and unloads TWO arrows into the squishy artificer! (rapid shot)

The first shot veers off wildly (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7116754&postcount=265) and perhaps clangs off the warforged, but it looks like the second shot (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7116765&postcount=266) strikes true, most likely murderizing the artificer! Looks like 55 damage

Telgin crumbles to the floor, clutching his wounds as Lalah catches the artificer by surprise. Kray yells out a blood-freezing scream and takes a 5fs towards the changling. The hobgoblins pass Daron and run down the stairs in panic.

The harpy behind Sandra hits her with one claw dealing 2 points of damage. Upon seeing the psiforge's clumsy attacks, the minotaur attacks Burn for 17 points of damage.

The three hijackers that were hit by Richter are looking to be in bad shape. Only the minotaur seems to be in good condition, but all three are still stunned and blinded.

It is the heroes' turn.....

Burn curses his overzealous approach, and prepares to cut this enemy down once and for all.

I hope nobody minds me going before Sandra, but she's taking a long time, and her action wouldn't have affected my move unless she ran.

Thoryk casts Cure Critical Wounds on Sandra before she can run off to Lala Land and get slaughtered.

[roll0] points healed.

Tumble Check [roll0]

Aellas Tia'ryl as a hobgoblin reels under the blows of the mighty warforged, and decides that for now discretion is the better part of valor. Nimbly tumbling away from the hulking death-machine, she stops as the gets next to the door (not blocking the way out) and sees Daron.

"There is a crazed warforged in there. Be careful!" She actually stays in the room and decides to patch herself up. White energy coalesces around Aellas's hands and she lays her hands upon her own wounds, healing significant portions of it. She is now about 15 ft away from Kray, and approximately next to Daron.

[Healed 21 damage from 1 use of Opportunistic Piety. I believe 5 uses left for the day.]

Daron nods to the hobgoblin. "You are brave to stay while your companions ran."

Not particularly excited at the prospect of charging at a "crazed warforged" he could not see, Daron uses his Belt of Battle to gain an extra standard action, which he uses to cast Grease (DC 10 Balance check to move through Greased area) on the area behind where the hobgoblin (really Aellas, unknown to Daron) had come from, hoping to catch the warforged off balance for an advantage.

Daron then readies to cast Bands of Steel (Ref Save DC 19 or immobilized for 5 rounds) as soon as he sees the warforged.

"Is there someone else with you? I was told that one of 'my companions' was fighting in there, outnumbered."

Sandra stares at the Minotaur as both sweat and blood drip down pass her eyes. Sandra grit her teeth as the Harpy clawed at her.

“If I were you I would run” said Sandra as she barked at the Harpy with forceful angry tone as she turn her attention back to the Minotaur.

Sandra then quickly stepped towards the rear of the ship to flank with the

Sandra's savage attacks fells the creature. The harpy seeing most of her companions dead or stunned+ blinded flies off at Sandra's request.

I rolled an intimidate check for Sandra with a +4 circumstance bonus since she delivered it so well and the fact that they are getting owned. Still waiting on Neb. Will move him if he doesn't post in 24 hours

i just realized that i have been forgetting to take my size increase into account for attacks and damage!

"Crazed warforged?" Burn asks as he prepares to kill the minotaur, "One of the hostage takers?" Inside, Burn gets a little excited, wondering if he might have a chance at an actual battle.

Hurry up and get rid of the bovine, Burn! You're up here fighting little kids when the real enemies are apparently downstairs! his subconscious says.

Burn lets loose a metallic growl and swings a heavy overhand chop with his sword, grasping it with both hands in order to smash through the minotaur's defenses. His black-bladed sword slices down in a brutal arc, arrowing for the foe's ribs.

Burn's attack hits the last minotaur.
Richter fires a fireball at the three remaining foes and kills all of them.
The deck is now clear (the last harpy flew off).

Kray charges moves towards Daron the grease barely affecting him and the bands of steel snapping against his spiked plating.

[roll0]
If the roll is a 1 then Daron takes 23 points of damage.
However, all the spells made his massive overhand swing hit wide of Daron.

... did Kray make both saves for the Grease and the Bands of Steel?

Hmm he did make both saves (he is fully buffed thanks to the late Telgin) but I realized he can't charge you and hence have to subtract 2 from the last attack making it a miss. Where exactly is the greased area? The square that Kray was on last turn or right in front of you? "Behind Lalah" is a bit vague.

Thoryk sees its pointless to stay on the deck and starts to run to wherever the battle still is (starting his turn), yelling "Come on, let's see who's left!"

Might be a dying breath, but I'd like this thread to stay alive.
