Wow, I remember back when these were popular...

...I feel old.

<.<

Blue-Eyes White Dragon FTW!

But my favourite card would have to be, uh... well, my favourite card in my deck actually is my three Blue-Eyes... triply so if I can get a Polymerization activated. *Que evil laugh as I destroy my brother's Obelisk the Tormentor*

But then again, I do have The Winged Dragon of Ra... (We just play for fun, so anything goes).

And a few other select cards that I couldn't live without...

I would like a Cyber-End Dragon, though... that'd be cool.

Sorry, I'm not much help. Never played the actual card game. I do remember seeing a lot of booster packs in tourist centers around the world some years ago.

Hmm... then I'd say it's up to you. Dark Creator is only good if you have 6+ Dark Monsters, at least, and even better if you have some way of getting them back from being out-of-play.

Dark Gaia, if fused smartly, can be incredibly powerful. And, he stops Flip Effects from activating when he attacks. So, if you have a lot of DARK monsters, or can get them easily, go with Dark Creator, but if you have powerful Rock-Type and Fiend-Type monsters, go with Evil Hero Dark Gaia.

Personally? I'd stick with Koa'ki Meiru Powerhand, because I don't really like Synchro Monsters all tha much...

Also, a 4-star Monster with an attack of over 2000 is great for a first-summon. And, can negate the effects of a LIGHT or DARK monster it battles...

It's too bad about the costs for keeping it on the field though. It'd be best to use it as a striker. Hit and run, that kind of tactic.

actually i sorta play both (not many people play in my area) and decks can be as complex as you want them to be so you could focus on just sheer power or you could use spell counters or something

I used to play... I quit when I couldn't keep up with the metagame any more (unlike Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh has only one format, and cards get banned/un-banned/restricted all the time).
This was one of my favourite combos.

Wow. A 2 card combo that can finish the enemy in very little time. Simple, yet brutally effective. You get full view of what your opponent has to use AND they're taking 1000 damage each turn. You then use trap-blocking/trap-destroying cards to protect The Eye of Truth and Bad Reaction to Simochi and just wait for your opponents life points to hit 0. Impressive.

I say you could turn things around if you summon Black Rose Dragon and use it's (amazing) effect, but otherwise it looks pretty bad for you, even if you do have a lot of lifepoints.

Does anyone know how Gemini Summoning works? I've never got a clear answer to this anywhere.

they summon as normal monsters but instead of normal summoning for a turn you may activate their effect as long as they are on the field.

my lifepoints 6100

his lifepoints 200

i summoned black rose but it did not destroy restrict because if his equip and des was destroyed by mask of reminents ment he got my black rose :smalleek: but i used raigeki so i had powerhand and attacked him because he had no monsters, he has just set a monster and now it is my turn.

Ah, memories. I moved onto magic a while back, though- it's a little more strategic. Recently, though, at a FNM, I saw some younger kids (age 11, max) playig yu-gi-oh and bakugan. It really brought me back. I brought my old cards next week and let them have them. There were quite a few good cards, including a Thousand-Eyes Restrict and several rare promos. I know they were probably valuable, but it was worth it to see them happy.

Activating its effect takes the same action as a Normal Summon, so you can't do both in one turn (unless you have Ultimate Offering (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Ultimate_Offering) out, of course).

EDIT: Hey, they gave Ultimate Offering a powered-up reprint!

I still play a bit, but I'm not getting any new cards. I run a Zombie deck, which does quite well even without following the metagame. Zombies are quite a cool strategy, but I wish I had a Water deck, or perhaps a Light deck of some kind. Y'know, because I don't like being evil.

If you want to start a Water deck, I'd recommend starting with the "Fury from the Deep" pre-set deck. It has some nice water cards and a small guide on improving the deck.

For Light..... I have no idea. Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon deck with The Light - Hex-Sealed Fusion? Since Blue Eyes Ultimate is a Light attribute, you can replace one of the normal dragons with Hex-Sealed Fusion and be able to summon it more easily. I don't know much about the current metagame though.

Yes, I would use the Structure Deck as a start. But as I said, I'm not getting any new cards.

Last time I checked the metagame, the Lightsworn archetype was dominating. But I still prefer Water, even though it's not as good.

Giant Soldier of Stone was a Defensive 1st turn wall with an ATK stat that put Mystical Elf to shame. SHAME I SAY!

What does the scouter say about its DEF score?
It's 2000!

The great way to use Giant Soldier of Stone is to play him face down. That way, when your opponent attacks, you're more than likely to hit him for reflect damage (unless your opponent uses Mystic Swordsman or something like that). This works especially well if the opponent plays tiny monsters and you have an equip card waiting in the wings, because then you can flip Giant Soldier on your turn and attack for extra damage!

Example:
Turn A1 (8000): Player A puts Giant Solider of Stone in face down mode.
Turn B1 (8000): Elemental Hero Avian put into Attack position and attacks, Player B takes 1000 points of reflect damage.
Turn A2 (8000): Player A switches G.S.o.S into Attack mode, equips Malevolent Nuzzler (G.S.o.S now has 2000 ATK) and attacks, Player B takes 1000 more damage and Avian is destroyed.
Turn B2 (6000): Player B does whatever.

Ah yugioh, an extremely unforgiving game. Only yugioh can give you that lovely feeling when you future fusion a Five gods dragon, dragons mirror it, use DD Burials to bring the materials back, then use dragons mirror again only to be mirror force. You then laugh at how you'll get a third FGDs dragon later and the fact that you haven't even normally summoned yet. Then they torrential your Dragon.

My favorite card:

Regular Price is about $60, sale price on this site is $45.

I can't understand it's use. Sure, 4000 ATK (5000 ATK if you have a Crystal Beast in play and sacrifice said Beast) is a heavy amount, but it has 0 DEF points. A single trap card that switches the position of a monster means that for Rainbow Dragon at least (and maybe you if the opponent as an Ancient Gear Golem with some ATK boosting cards on it).
Then again, if you instead deside to remove from play the Crystal Beasts you control to wipe the cards on the field back into their respective decks. Leaving the opponent open to a huge 4000 ATK direct hit.

Haha, I used to play this all the time. My main deck was a water deck with using the whole A Legendary Ocean thing to boost up my normal guys (gagagigo and deep sea warrior) and to bring out the 5 star monsters for free (Gigagagagigo and Terrorfin Salmon(or some sort of fish)) and then hopefully use Levia-dragon daedalus. I got the water starter I think just so I could get the super Levia Dragon one. Also ran a zombie deck with pyramid turtle, vampire lord, and fear of the dark.

Anyway, my favorite card:

Um, you can only have one dark hole and one tribe infecting in traditional format. Can you explain how a deck with many kokami monster works? From what I seen, they can absolultly murder your own draw power and the opponet can beat you six ways down.

Prime32
2009-08-28, 05:28 PM
Also, you have more than 40 cards in your deck. There's no rule against it, but the fewer cards you have, the better the chance of drawing the one you need.

Blue Ghost
2009-08-28, 05:54 PM
From what I know, beatdown and burn don't work together well. You should choose one to focus on. If you're going beatdown, you should focus on speed rather than raw power, so that means stuff like The Tricky and Cyber Dragon over what you have. For burn, there are far better options than Ookazi. Things that can deal more damage or continuous damage, or contribute other purposes to the deck, should be ideal. Stuff like Des Koala, Stealth Bird, and Marshmallon.

I don't have any experience with Ko'akis, so I can't help you there. But yes, you should keep your deck size down to a minimum.

Since I may not get another chance (I don't use the cards anymore) why was Monster Reborn banned? Is it really that overpowered?

Because it makes it far too easy to bypass the normal summoning progression. It's much, much easier to get a card into the graveyard in Yu-Gi-Oh than it is to keep it alive on the field, and with Monster Reborn you can then pull it out of the graveyard and completely ignore any normal restrictions on summoning it (for a high-star-value monster, compare discarding it and Monster Reborning it to playing 3 monsters and keeping them all alive long enough to tribute them. And then your opponent just flips over a Trap Hole or a Mirror Force, blows your monster off the field, and uses his own Monster Reborn to summon it back.)

And Dark Hole was banned because it was effectively a field equalizer. You could use it right at the very beginning of your turn, wipe the field clean, play a monster and get a free direct attack off, especially useful if you have a monster with a discard on damage effect.
For example:
Your opponent has 4500 Life Points left.
You have Robbin' Goblin and Magical Thorn active and Minor Goblin Official set.
You play Dark Hole. Opponent has no more monsters.
You summon White Magical hat and attack.
Opponent has 3500 life points left.
White Magical hat forces a discard. Magical Thorn causes 500 damage.
Opponent has 3000 life points left. Minor Goblin Official Activates.
Opponent's turn.
Minor Goblin Official deals 500 points of damage to your opponent in their Standby Phase.
Opponent has 2500 life points left.

Have three of each arm and leg means you can get those pieces into your hand easily. Then you can use sangan (When this card is destroyed, add a monster with 1500 or less attack to your hand.) to search for the head. That, and the other crazy ways you can add draw power to an exodia deck, would mean easy exodia.

Um......so banned cards in Yu-Gi-Oh aren't actually banned, but just prohibited from being in your deck and legal if you tutor for them with MtG Wish-like effects? Why not just build a deck with 4x Sangan, 4x DEF-variant Sangan (Witch of Something?), and ways to revive them, then tutor all 5 pieces of Exodia that way?

You can only have three copies of an unlimited card in a deck. In advance format there are four types of card allowance.

Banned: You can not have these cards in a deck of advanced format.

Limited: You can have a single copy of this card in a deck.

Semi-Limited: You can have two copies of this card in a deck.

Unlimited: You can have three copies of this card in a deck.

The difference between Advanced and traditional is that in traditional, all banned cards are treated as limited, while everything else is the same.

I should have explained this earlier.

The Ultimate dragon is part of the extra deck. It's not in your real deck, it's off to the side. There are also a ridculous amount of ways to fuse monsters without even needing the three in the hand.

To get Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon out you would need all 4 cards AND Polymerization.
Or you could make do with 2 Blue Eyes White Dragons, The Light - Hex-Sealed Fusion and Polymerization. But you would still need the Ultimate Dragon card.

But the Ultimate Dragon card is part of your Fusion deck, meaning that as soon as you have 3 Blue Eyes White Dragons and Polymerization you can summon it.

No that confusing if you ignore alternative summonig strategies.

1. Get Blue Eyes White Dragon x3 either in your hand or face-up on the field, all at the same time.
2. Activate Polymerisation which sends your three Dragons to the graveyard.
4. Take Ultimate Dragon from seperate Fusion Deck (so you dont have to worry about drawing it).
5. Proceed to butcher your opponent whilst at the same time looking incredibly stylish.

Alternative:
5. Have your Ultimate Dragon be killed by a flipped Man-Eater Bug, a Sakuretsu Armor trap or any other monster destroying card against which the Ultimate Dragon has no defense (which a lot).

OR

5. Have the 4500 damage reflected on you by a certain trap card which name I forgot right now.

Seriously, pure attack power is worth almost nothing in Yu-Gi-Oh (especially if you have to go through such an unnecessary long combo to actually get it).

Which is why so many of the cards that do that kind of thing are now banned or limited. The game devs *want* you to do it the hard way, and they want it to be pretty awesome when you pull it off. They just.. continually manage to make a third or so of each new set be spell/trap/effect cards that negate it. -_-'

Well, now we have synchros, which are much easier to summon than fusions and much more effective. The best of these combine pure power (Stardust Dragon, Thought Ruler Archfiend, Goyo Guardian) with control, and are quite difficult to take down.
The metagame is based around speed now, not power. The best decks are those that can quickly gain field control and swarm.

A perfect complete OTK with a 9000 ATK creature. And a very commonly known one as well.
Also, summoning Dragon Master Knight is only a 500 point increase on UBEWD when using Cyber Stein. Some people use it to summon Cyber End Dragon.

Cyber End Dragon + Metamorph after Cyber Stein = 8000 point attacker that rips through defence position monsters as well. Not quite an OTK (unless you add in Malevolent Nuzzler or something to boost its attack), but it'll still be a heck of a lot of damage. Then again, afterwards, your life points will be higher, so you'll have a 2000 ATK Cyber End Dragon. Still pretty hard to kill on a first turn.

Isn't that usually why do you apply certain cards to the field before you bring out your summon? Like get rid of all the spell cards with Giant Trunade and maybe Nobleman that suspicious monster that lies facedown?

I actually only played the video game adaptations (Joey the Passion mainly), though. So me and my Beatdown deck in JtP sucks. :P

@Yubel
You need to filter some of those monsters out. Just because a monster is part of a set doesn't means it is any good.

Ahh, Yu-Gi-Oh. I remember it with such fondness. Then I remember the netdecking, and cookie cutter decks. I may not have won a lot of matches, but I had fun using my decks. Had a Beatdown Deck, a Water Deck (favorite), a Simochi Deck and a Chaos Burn Deck which I was never able to actually finish.

Seal of Orichalcos does exist, but it's never been released to the public. There are only 15 copies in existence, all held by Upper Deck executives. And it's utterly broken. Kind of like Toon World in the anime.

SOI-EN002 = Shadow of Infinity & EN = English or TCG whike OCG was japanese. UDE before getting tooken over be Konami used to print "EN" in the edition numbers.

Hamon was always a "nomi" monster. Had some kid summon it in a match at the Canadian National a few years back and then I BTH'd (bottomless trap hole) it.

I feel really old now. I used to play this game competitively. Was our regions Tournament Judge. Was also a Featured & COTD writer on Pojo.com/ygo. My fav username ( mikej ) was originally my ygomonz nickname.

Been out of the game for almost two years now. After Konami limited Cyber Dragon ( my fav cards ) me and the othes realised Konami is idiotic in thier B/R making.

I played in some of the toughest formats. Goat Control, Warrior Toolbox w/ 3x DDAs, Chaos Return, Apprentice Monarchs and my favourite Cyber-Stein Era. It was great, firsted heavy'd the field, busted out a 11,200 Chimeratech Overdragon with Overload Fusion, then summoned Cyber-Stein pay the 5000 LP for Cyber End Dragon. Attack after Limiter Removal for a total of 39,800 dmg. That's equal to playing and winning four whole games.

1x Regenerating Mummy
1x Spirit Reaper
1x Wall of Illusion
3x Zombie Master

1x Despair from the Dark

Spells:
3x Book of Life
1x Brain Control

1x Everliving Underworld Cannon
1x Fissure
1x Heavy Storm
1x Lightning Vortex
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
1x Nobleman of Crossout

I can defeat that with a really weak, low-level monster:

You keep complaining about remove from play. Why not buy some Zombie World? (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Structure_Deck:_Zombie_World) It comes with imperial Iron wall. @tribble: I see your Man-Eater Bug and raise you a Creature Swap. Seriously. Why simply destroy that monster that your opponent worked so hard to summon when you can take it from him permanently? I just won a duel today by swapping my Zombie Master for my opponent's Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem. Epic. And I won another one yesterday with 3 direct attacks from my opponent's Earthbound Immortal Asclla Piscu. Creature Swap is now officially my favorite card.

@Raroy: I'm no longer working to improve my deck. I am not buying any new cards. And doesn't Imperial Iron Wall prevent Book of Life?

Raroy

I would say Voltanis is better because it can be special summoned (although, it needs to be a tribute. A single fairy could be the cost.) and it can destroy cards on the field. While Perfect machine king is an eight star beatstick that will die very quickly while not doing much of anything.

Rare value they are the same.

Price wise, Voltanis is more expensive.

Synergy wise, Voltanis works very well with counter fairys and has a good amount of control.

Geno9999
2009-09-20, 01:24 PM
The real value relies on the actual number of Machines you can get out quickly. If you have stuff like Last Will (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Last_Will) to pull out a high defense machine while Perfect Machine King kills everything.

As for you, thread, I'm so far behind in this game I remember when Trap Hole (sans Bottomless) was the thing. 1800 beatsticks were great and Mechanicalchaser was THE 4 star to have. Now you've gone all Psychic and Synchro and Blackwing and TeleDAD and XX and Lightsworn on me and I don't know which way is up. Still cool art, though. Love the Horus'.

Yeah, I took my opponent's UAGG. For the second time.

Most of the types have their own decktypes, with a few exceptions. Thunder hasn't gotten any love. The WATER attribute has its own decktype, which can account for Aqua, Fish, and Reptile, with a bit of Sea Serpent. I think that everything else has an archetype, but I may be forgetting something.

Frog the Jam is technically not a "Frog" card, because of its Japanese name, apparently.

I've dueled a Frog deck once. It managed to lock me down with Level Limit Area-B, but didn't draw any of the direct-attacking monsters to get past my Despair from the Dark wall. I managed to outstall it and kill it with my Everliving Underworld Cannon.

It's what most serious critics would refer as a pile of random cards. Whilst some of the cards may be good, they don't really work together with any degree of efficiency and try to do too many things at once.

If you want to take it to tournaments, you need to be aware of the current banned/restricted list (http://www.yugioh-card.com/en/limited/) (because change of heart for one is banned from tournament play), and you'll want to find efficient support cards for whatever cohesive strategy you decide to go with.

A simple trip to a tournament will show you exactly what the better decks around are capable of doing, ranging from showing you the fast and brutal capabilities of a lightsworn deck (when the combo is working properly), to showing you what a synchro monster is how they've forced the game to evolve.

Beyond that, I'd also recommend looking at whatever articles you're drawn to on the yu-gi-oh wiki (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page) which is generally a pretty good resource.

Well from what I remember from making the deck (keep in mind this is about 4 years ago, I was 13) was that I was trying to get a lot of cards to increase my LP and stop me from taking damage while being able to get out big hitter cards as easily as possible (for example, using Spell Counter monsters with Miracle Restoration, and Emblem of Dragon Destroyer to get out my Buster Blader asap) and stopping my opponent from summoning cards to stop direct attacks. Most of the tribute monsters I selected for their high defense, decent attack scores for a quick bit of extra damage or their effects to destroy my opponent's monsters. I'm not planning on going anywhere near tournament level, in fact, these are the only cards I actually have (I lost the rest, only have the deck because it was separate). Thanks for the tips though.

Well, in the more modern environment, the old adage seems to hold true, because the best defence is a good offence. You'll be well served by getting out monsters that replace themselves or keep coming back if you're after getting out massive beatsticks. Also, if in doubt, special summon stuff- you can do so multiple times per turn, and it renders trap hole utterly useless.

I know what you mean about having very few cards to work with, because I've only just got back into the game within the last couple of months (though I haven't actually been up to tournament level yet). I've been honing my skills with Stardust Accelerator on the DS to get my skills up to par and master the newer mechanics though.

Ekibyo Drakmord, eh? It's a pretty good card, but there are better cards out there. There are too many ways to get around its returning effect: tributing or Synchroing the infected monster, or simply destroying Ekibyo itself, and so on. It's okay for defense, but there are better cards for that purpose (Sakuretsu Armor, for instance), and it's too slow to be an efficient method of monster removal. I have Ekibyo, but I don't run it in my deck.

Would anyone be interested in a thread in the Play-by-Post forum for Yu-Gi-Oh? Has something like that been done before?

Okay, for a new dimension to this, I'm throwing out the following question:

What's been your favourite deck of all the decks you've ever run?

Mine was a Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys deck that ran Sand Moth and Assault on GHQ. Apprentice Magician provided a consistent search engine, whilst the other cards were at least halfway decent for the metagame of the time. Out of all the decks I've built that one stands out, closely followed by a Giant Rat toolbox that focussed on finding ways around the 1500ATK cap on what Giant Rat can summon.

That... is actually quite a good idea, though there'd have to be a ref or something to ensure no cheating, like say, you make your decklist and put it in spoilers at the end of every post, then roll a id40 or whatever to see what you draw... or y'know you could leave it up to honour xD.
If I have some spare time I may just make a thread in the recruing section on this, kudos to whoever got the idea

Unfortunately for me, so has Last Will. I used to quite enjoy comboing that with Exiled Force to kill whatever was convenient then special summon from my deck. Ah well, we can't always have what we want.

At least little things like that keep you focussed on adapting to new situations.

Altaria87

Well I have a basic outline for it already in my head.
Basically, before the duel the players decide what the rules are, then you make your decks etc. Then you put a numbered list at the bottom of your post in spoilers every turn, this can optionally be checked by a ref or something.
To draw you simply roll dX, X being the number of cards in your deck, you can either adjust the list to have smaller numbers when your deck decreases in size, or simply count down.
You then basically play as normal, however, if you see a point during your opponents turn you would have activated a card, you quote that bit of the post, say what you did and then the other person can revise their turn from there. if you have multiple points in your opponent's turn where you would have done something, always quote the first one, then see if you would have still done your later actions in the revision.
Here's an example:
Player 1's first post:
5d40
1d35
I summon Skull Servant in Attack Mode and play one spell/trap card face down. I end my turn:
Deck
-Their Deck, edited after the move so the cards that have been drawn are removed
-Their extra deck, numbering not required
Stats:
Life Points: 8000
Graveyard: *insert graveyard here
Removed from Play: *insert card removed from play here*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Player 2's first post:
5d47 (this guy has a larger deck)
1d42
I summon Warrior Dai Grepher in Attack Mode, and equip him with Sword of the Deep Seated :smalltongue:
I attack your Skull Servant with Warrior Dai Grepher.
I then end my turn.
Deck
-Their Deck, edited after the move so the cards that have been drawn are removed
-Their extra deck, numbering not required
Stats:
Life Points: 8000
Graveyard: *insert graveyard here
Removed from Play: *insert card removed from play here*
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Player 1:

I attack your Skull Servant with Warrior Dai Grepher.
YOU ACTIVATED MA TRAP CARD (Or just, I activate my trap card), Negate Attack. This stops your attack.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Player 2:
Ok then, after my attack fails I play a spell/trap card face down and end my turn.
Deck
-Their Deck, edited after the move so the cards that have been drawn are removed
-Their extra deck, numbering not required
Stats:
Life Points: 8000
Graveyard: *insert graveyard here
Removed from Play: *insert card removed from play here*
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Etc. Obviously trash talking is encouraged but not conpulsary, and a small table/ACSII of your field can be requested, for example, at the end of Player two's revised turn it would be:

- F S - -
- - W - -

F=Face Down
S=Sword of the Deep Seated
W=Warrior Dai Grepher.

Or of course a better table xD.

So what do you guys think?
Of course the rolling fails, but you get the idea

Well I have a basic outline for it already in my head.

Seems reasonable- you've obviously put a fair amount of thought into running this, and it looks like it'll all pay off.

This also leaves things open for some of us comeback players to assemble decks we really wish we had the cards for or decks that we remember fondly (for example, my Sacred Phoenix/Sand Moth deck).

For what it's worth, I think that a tabulated layout of what zones have cards in should be required- Considering the existence of cards like Blasting Fuse and Alien Infiltrator...

Yeah, good point, my thought on that was actually Needle Wall, but there you go.
Also, I might put this on the PbP recruiting forum either within the next fifteen minutes or tomorrow, see how many people are interested. RP could even be involved if you like xD.
I'm thinking of recreating my Silver fang deck....
Yes, that's right, I made a deck centred around Silver Fang.

I'm sure I'll have a deck of some sort prepared... Exactly how complex it'll be will depend on my level of inspiration- though I'm torn between multiple decks just at the moment...

1- Horus/Frost and Flame Dragon deck
2- Giant Rat summoning toolbox (with or without synchro monsters)
3- Sacred Phoenix/Sand Moth deck
4- Lightsworn deck

Decisions, decisions...

Ah well, there are still other level monsters out there... including the infamous Armed (If it moves, kill it!) Dragon set.

I'll see about pulling a deck together ASAP though.

Nor was I, but the moment I saw it my brain started buzzing with enthusiasm for it.

Heh, my friend and I just had a duel using each other's decks. He beat me in my traditional come-back-from-behind style. That makes me happy, for some reason.
