If a character has berserk strength ability does it count as rage in regards to qualifying for feats/ prestige classes

That depends on the DM. Some say yes, others are hardcore rules lawyers and say something like "the prereq does not state having something 'like' rage, you need rage"

I'm not normally a stickler, but I'd say no, unless a player squared the idea with me beforehand as part of their (approved) build.

Berserker Strength is just an alternate version of Rage, so yes, it qualifies as Rage. Saying it's not is like saying Ferocity and Whirling Frenzy aren't, either.

You wouldn't happen to know what page if any it says that and in which book?

The book that Berserker Strength appears in is not completely clear (PHB2), but I believe that's the RAI because it has this clause:

Any effect that would normally apply only during your rage applies whenever your berserker strength is active.
