I tell you... if we're not getting at least one Tatooine-reference in this desert, I'll be very, very sad! I'll even cry! ;)

Too many Star Wars references in pop culture anyway.
That being said, it'll probably happen.

We've had Star Wars references in the strip before-

"strike him down and take his place at my side"
"Darth Vaarsuvius"
"Anger leads to hate, hate leads to...fear?"

So, it would not surprise me if there are more.

The occasional Dune reference might be nice as well. Or Dark Sun. Or anything desert-heavy.

God called to inform everyone that Star Wars is not the center of the universe.

Right. Tatooine is just an unimportant pile of sand in the universe.

Arrakis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrakis), on the other hand... Bring in the "Dune" references! Everyone loves "Dune"! Keep the sandworms coming... oh... wait.

Edit: Ninja'd... three times! :smalleek:

Yet another vote for Dune. Something along the lines of Purple Worm/Sand Worm, or a confusion between Wyrm/Worm.

Anyone seen the movie version of Dune? Its pretty good, definitely worth watching it you enjoyed the book.

I'm hoping for some kind of Dark Sun reference.

Foryn Gilnith

Or all three, you know? We're going to be in here a while. It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect many references, especially if this arc is more humorous.

I want this in the movie at some point. "the thieves, the thieves! the filfthy little thieves!where is it? where is it? they stole it from us, my precious. curse them, we hates them. It's ours it is and we wants it!"

more LOTR quotes to follow at a later point.

I could certainly go with one reference from Diablo
That could be now that they are in a desert setting.
I mean, even a "hello, stay a while and listen" would suffice

Perhaps the party's obligatory Random Encounter can be with the Sand People?

Perhaps the party's obligatory Random Encounter can be with the Sand People?

Maybe, but I think a cameo of a Sand Person and/or a Jawa walking through Sandsedge somewhere in the next few strips would be more amusing and appropriate as a reference. Less jarring then an actual fight against a tribe of beings from another Verse. Plus it'd be fun to see either of them in the Stick style, like Mr. Met (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0578.html) and Cyclops (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0560.html).

Though, if it were a Jawa, the eyes would inspire at least five "OMG the MitD is a giant Jawa!" threads ...

No, but I have had problems with wasps in an apple strudel. I will forbear from the Doon references.

Doon was the equivalent of "Bored of the Rings" for Dune. It was about as good too (which really is damning with faint praise).
