Fears 3: Full Circle

Narrator: Cristo Meyers
Co-Narrator: Shadowcaller

Events have finally come back to the beginning in Haven. The Master has returned from his defeat at the hands of his former apprentice Sacha stronger than ever and the banishing of the Night has only served to turn the entirety of Haven into a new level of Hell. With each passing day the Master grows stronger, inching ever closer to his unknown goal. If he is to be stopped, it has to be now.

Creatures that were once limited to the Night now have free reign in Haven. Night brings chaos and death while day reveals blood soaked roadways and bodies in the streets. Forces are converging on the Pegasus Manor now, in one last attempt to halt the slaughter. Specialists at combating supernatural threats: the S.E.U. have been called in to find and neutralize the danger by any means necessary.

Quite possibly the on person that understands what is going on, a young woman fights the constant attempts of the Manor to assume control over her so that she can hopefully bring down the Master before it is too late.

But it won't be easy, the Master knows that this is the last chance anyone has at stopping him and has called everyone into his domain, the Pegasus Manor, once more. Trapped inside, his minions can pick off the ones that oppose him one by one.

It ends as it began, trapped in the darkened halls of the Pegasus Manor...

Wolves

Tayler Soyer, the Master (Alpha)
The former Master of the Manor has returned, and his power has grown. The Master may select one player per night. That player may not use any night abilites that night (as if they were voided) nor may they vote in the next day phase. The affected player may post as normal once the night phase and day phase have passed. Due to the increase in his powers, the Master can no longer hide beneath his masks, he scries as Master/alpha.

Falcon (Devil)
Yet another Fear that has regained some semblance of consciousness. Falcon waits and watches, she is an extra set of eyes and ears for her Master, even though she still feels the bonds of loyalty to the former master, Sacha. Falcon scries one player per night to learn their role. Scries as Falcon/Devil.

Fears (wolves)
Corrupted spirits trapped in the Manor. Some have been there so long that they are little more than slavering beasts, while others have managed to retain the intelligence and mind of their former selves. Scries as Fear/wolf

Village

Gabrielle Sena (seer)
Sacha's apparent destruction has severed the bonds that held Gabrielle to the Manor. Unfortunately, she is still not human, but rather essentially still a Fear and thus the Master is slowly reasserting dominance over her. Her supernatural senses and nature allow her insight into the minds of others. Once per night she may scry one player to learn their role. Scries as Gabrielle/Seer

SEU Team (Masons)
It was only a matter of time before the elite were called in. Now that the bubble surrounding the Manor is gone, the SEU team can do what they do best: investigating and ending paranormal and supernatural threats. They start the game knowing who the other members of the team are. Scries as SEU/Mason.

Aaron Marsh (Meddler)
There's no room for fence-sitting anymore, and Aaron's been around long enough to realize it. He's thrown in with the side that's less likely to kill him on sight. No longer just a simple illusionist, Aaron has the capability to interfere with the abilities of the numerous scouts and spies of the Master. Once per night he can select one player, if the Devil, Falcon, scries that player the result will come back with an Interference result. Or, the player Aaron selected will be protected from the Master's ability. Aaron only selects one player and one ability per night. Scries as Marsh/Meddler.

Snyder (fool)
This player will be told they are the seer. Synder is a madman. Somehow he survived the Night, but what happened during that time left him broken and deranged. He can see the Fears for what they are, but to him everyone appears strange and abnormal. Once per night he may scry a player, but will receive a random result save for the seer, who will always scry as the fool. Scries as Snyder/Fool.

SEU Medic (baner)
Nothing ever goes as planned, does it? The insertion into the Manor went perfectly smooth...right up until everything went dark. There was shooting, shouting, footsteps running, and you were separated from the team. Hopefully you'll be able to reunite with the rest of the SEU team before things get worse... Once per night you may choose a player to protect from night kills. Scries as SEU Medic/baner

Victim (villager)
One of the unfortunate souls drawn into the Manor with everyone else. Scries as Victim/villager.

Rooms

Like it or not, people have to sleep. Every night, each player will choose where in the Manor they are going to bed down for the night. Room capacity will depend on the total number of players. The rooms are:

The Basement
The Main Room
The Garden
The Kitchen
The Master Bedroom
The Servant's Quarters

There can be consequences to where you choose to sleep. However, they will not be revealed in-game.

Extra rules:

Days are 48 hours, nights 24.

Autolynch happens after missing 2 consequtive voting days.

Helgraf's Scry Interference rule is in affect.

Word of Caution: there is a distinct possibility in this game that the dead might not be completely out of the game. Sharing roles, information, etc with a recently killed player might not be wise...

Conversely, the dead still can't speak. No confering with living players (via game thread, PM, etc).

The game has begun on page 3, post 88.

After confering with my co-narrator, we've decided to make a role change. Aaron Marsh is no longer an Illusionist, but a role I've called the Meddler. His role description now reads like this:

Aaron Marsh (Meddler)
There's no room for fence-sitting anymore, and Aaron's been around long enough to realize it. He's thrown in with the side that's less likely to kill him on sight. No longer just a simple illusionist, Aaron has the capability to interfere with the abilities of the numerous scouts and spies of the Master, even the Master himself. Once per night he can select one player, if the Devil, Falcon, scries that player the result will come back with an Interference result. Or, the player Aaron selected will be protected from the Master's ability. Aaron only selects one player and one ability per night. Scries as Marsh/Meddler.

If the Alpha voids a vote - does the player being voided know his vote doesn't count? - Let's say I void (rolls dice) Uncle Festy, and he votes for me but the Alpha voided him. Does UF know ahead of time, or find out later he's been voided in a day vote?

The person voided can't post at all for that next day phase. The voided player will be told that they've been targeted by the power and that for the next day phase they are essentially out of the game. However, this can't be used to force an autolynch.

Well, the letter of the ability doesn't say so, but the spirit kinda does. The basic idea is that the affected player is too stricken with fear to do anything other than cower.

With that, recruitment is closed. Role PM's should be out by the end of Sunday.

Hrmmm... may I request that we at least be allowed to -inform- potential allies that we can't post? I can easily see people spamming the hell out of someone thus muted because they haven't posted yet

((This wouldn't break the spirit I don't believe... if someone is -that- freaked out then others would easily be able to notice!))

What I've seen from Mafia and SEU abductions, people usually get it after a while if you just avoid the question.

Cristo Meyers

What I've seen from Mafia and SEU abductions, people usually get it after a while if you just avoid the question.

Which is pretty much what the idea is based off of. The player is essentially dead for that day phase. There's nothing keeping them from posting elsewhere or PMing others, they just would have to follow the rules of being dead: no affecting the game, either through PM or post. There's just the caveat that they can't post in thread until the day phase is over.

Andre Fairchilde
2009-09-12, 09:38 AM
No answering game PMs, no discussing the game in MSN chat, no posting on the thread... if you're not dead it's only 48 hours... or does it go through the night phase as well?

Cristo Meyers
2009-09-12, 09:46 AM
No answering game PMs, no discussing the game in MSN chat, no posting on the thread... if you're not dead it's only 48 hours... or does it go through the night phase as well?

The alpha voids player A. If that player has a night ability (say, a scry), then that ability is voided. For the next day phase that player is essentially out of the game: no vote, no affecting the game. The power wears off in the next night phase.

Fears 3: Full Circle

There it is, Pegasus Manor

Beneath the helicopter Haven blazed by as they bore down on their target, the old Pegasus Manor, the heart of the problem.

Of course, calling it a problem was like calling the Sun "kinda hot."

Almost looks normal, doesn't it?

Almost...

Pegasus Manor only stood out by virtue of being in the middle of some parkland, though by now the trees were withered and snow covered the ground. Everything that had happened in the past few months had its source right there.

It was only a matter of time before the SEU was called in, really they had just been waiting for an opportunity to get inside. The bubble that had covered much of the city not only kept everyone inside, but it also kept outsiders from getting in.

5 minutes to drop. We all know what to do...

--

How long will you continue fighting?

Gabrielle quashed the voice in her mind as well as she could. It was getting worse now. Sacha's destruction had freed her from the Manor's control, at least temporarily, but she was still a Fear now, and bound to the same power that the Master now held again.

You belong by my side.

It had to end here and now. Destroy the Manor, destroy the Master, destroy everything.

You belong in Hell, Soyer...

That brought a laugh. She hated the sound of his laugh, it made her stomach lurch.

Been there. Nice place. Perhaps I'll show you someday...

The massive double doors closed behind her. There would be no running from the Manor this time.

--

After everything that had happened in Haven over the past few days, it's hard for you to say that waking up inside of a decrepit old building is the worst. But as you look around and see that you are not the only one here, not by far, and as the feel of the building begins to permeate the air you start to realize exactly where you are and how much peril you are in...

You are trapped in the heart of the evil that has covered the city, trapped in the Pegasus Manor itself.

Oh good, my guests have arrived... The rich voice seems to come from everywhere, there's no pinning it down. I thought it fitting to have a bit of entertainment before I ascend to godhood in this petty little hovel. Thus, a masquerade ball of sorts. Every night, my Fears will kill one of you. Only one, I'm not unsporting. The only way to stop this is to find them all and destroy them. Of course, they all look just like you, act just like you, and there's only one way to find out if someone is truly one of my Fears...

Suspicious eyes start to scan the crowd. You can already feel several sets on you. All of a sudden you realize you're not only trapped in the Manor, but you're trapped in the Manor with at least three dozen people that all could kill you at any moment.

Now then, I do believe I have a stairway to build. But please, do try and stop me, I could use the entertainment...

Day 1 Begins now and ends at 7 pm on Wednesday, Sept 16th. If you haven't already, please read the Extra Rules section, as they are very important.

Brian Talman wakes up slowly and looks around. Fortunately the Soyer's voice is kind enough to fill him in.

"Again? Seriously? Didn't I just go through this not too long ago? Obviously not long enough."

The young man sighs before grabbing his trusty video camera and turning it on. "Not sure why I'm here. Not even sure why I'm alive. Maybe I've been given a second chance to fix things? I'm going to look around. See if that phantom character or magician is here. I'm having trouble remembering their names. A side effect perhaps?" Brian shakes his head. "Wonder if they still have that library?" He gets up and checks his backpack before heading off in search of the hidden library he once found. Perhaps it would be of interest to The Bookworm over there. If he could be trusted.

"Hey there's a room here full of cake! A Cake room? Ah, it's probably a lie anyway."

Andre wanders across the hall.

"A room full of mirrors."

The next room has a very large door, and the handle is over six feet off the ground. He hears the rattling of chains and a low rumbling roar. And the what sounds like an asthmatic bear breathing.

"I'll skip that one. My rapiers only do piercing damage..."

The next door frame was nicely carved from an antique... teak? Is antique teak a teak or is it a teak antique?

He opens the door and finds a game room - multiple tables, billiards, ping pong (conveniently next to a keg of beer) and tables with miniature terrain and minature armies.

"Hmm. I wonder if there's a casino in here, or some kind of strip club."

Andre continues to wander.

"Well there was one... ah. Here it is."
He opens the doors to the regular library. Brian could swear he heard a book slam shut and something move at the far end, but a closer look indicates there isn't anyone else here.

Frederick, a stocky fellow with a shock of grey hair, had already found the kitchen and was raiding it. If he was going to be killed horribly at the hands of a lot of unholy abominations (or possibly by the Fears), damned if he wasn't going to enjoy himself a little first.

Then a dog came in. Maybe it could tell the difference or warn him in advance, he thought. Animals were good at that sort of thing, right? He finds a good soup bone and crouches down, holding it out. "Here, boy. Fred's not gonna hurt you. Got something for you, see?"

His first instinct would be Fleeing like a Coward, but he had a feeling that wasn't going to be an option here. Surely they weren't going to let him walk out the front door...

"Fears eh? Note that fear is instinctual... primal if you will... it is said that we have nothing to fear but fear itself... to overcome this manor, we need merely overcome ourselves."

She nods, smartly "Clearly then, the more primal amongst us are those that need to be removed first... if we need to decide whom to remove, then those most refined must stay... the blenders are those most likely to be lost within the houses' reality, for they have no sense of self... Shadowhisper is one such risk..."

Not one for conversation, and certainly not one to pass up an opportunity to explore, Odysseus Munditty rushed off to the second storey of the Manor. Apparently everyone else thought it better to stay in the safety of the first floor, not Munditty, He flew up the stairs five steps at a time. Some may have called it strange that he did this, but the majority decided to call it odd. One coined a nickname that would stick Odyseeus Munditty.
"Hey man, whats the rush? ... Oddity?"
Oddity didn't mind the nickname, personally he thought that it gave an insight towards his character. Talking to himself as he went, he muttered about the scale of this staircase, with what seemed like and endless number of stairs in a repeating geometrical pattern (a square), Oddity thought he would never reach the top.
Unfortunately for this sprightly individual, he did.
"what do we have here?"

On the wall lay a very disturbing message:
We Will Find You.
We Will Kill You.

"I'm outta here!"
It was only when he was back in the comfort of the crowd did he notice another figure descending the staircase, obscured in a cloak they were quickly lost...

A too-thin girl, brown roots showing under her cheap black-and-red dye job, wanders the halls of the manor, sighing. She scratches absently at the fresh white bandages around each of her wrists. Miranda had spent the first 20 years of her life alone, bouncing around from foster home to foster home, and had found out less than a year ago that she had a sister - Marian. She looked down for the thousandth time at the old, oft-folded photograph she carried. A pretty, plain girl with light brown hair, grey eyes, dressed simply. She had learned that her sister had wanted to be a nun, to serve God. Miranda snorted quietly - how different of her young life, spent hooking to pay for her drug habit. So she had come here...only to find that her sister was gone, killed by...whatever had trapped her here now. And so she had tried to kill herself. Her last chance at a connection with someone, gone. Miranda had woken once in the hospital, so she knew she was alive, but that was it. Still, she didn't want to be trapped in here alone.

As Brian steps inside, he might see an odd shape on the floor. Closer examination will show a curled-up human, clothed in a tattered suit. Next to him lies a staff with a golden tip, broken in half. And at this point, a vague suspicion may dawn as to the identity of the man lying on the floor…
Martin groans, and begins to stir.

He pokes Martin. With his foot.

Yes, eventually. Not before day 1 even started! Not that blatantly suspicious! Although the fact you are suddenly being lynched on a whim off the back of a still spurious role claim has raised my suspiciondar by at least one decibel.

Just a note to the seer(s): Do not, repeat, do not contact FC tonight, or until you have at least one mouthpiece other than yourself and you know you are not the fool. To be honest, I see this as a golden opportunity for the seer and fool to find out which one they are, even if it costs us a mason (we've got, like, five, right?). Only problem is, this could be a horrible horrible plot on the part of the wolves to not only waste our lynches on secondary targets, but waste the first scry (using the interference rules). It's a tricky situation you put us in FC. Tricky tricky.

Trixie
2009-09-16, 05:12 PM
Well, got to try save myself but I don't want to lynch Jontom becaue he gets night killed early enoug and Murska because of a certian conversation so guess I'll go with Coplantor purely cause he already has a vote on him.

Certain conversation? Between wolves, maybe? :smallamused:

I'll only say lynching me will bring the record of my first day lynches to 3 villager, 2 mason. I'll still never have been lynched as wolf on day 1 :smalltongue:

Awww, first, statistics doesn't work like that, second, that means you have a much better chance to be a wolf this time instead, and third, there is always first time for everything - so Fleeing Coward, possibly first first day lynch as a wolf!

Aaaaand... I just got to the "claim" part. Seriously, is anyone buying this? :smallannoyed:

But okay, let's lynch DD instead for now, while the seer sort this out. I wonder what role FC just costed us, anyway? :smallamused:

Aaaaand... I just got to the "claim" part. Seriously, is anyone buying this? :smallannoyed:

Seemingly. It stinks like a barrel of fish, but maybe could be worked in our favour perhaps. Maybe leave FC on the backburner for a while, we can always lynch him later if he turns out to be lying. The advantages a wolf team trying this can gain are really centered around wasting crucial early game time. If that time isn't wasted then at least it's nothing lost nothing gained really.

I don't think I'm the best judge though, as I don't like the mason role very much and don't see it as super important...

Guancyto
2009-09-16, 05:38 PM
Murska had a pretty reasonable talk on the issue in some other game, I forget which. It boiled down to that wolves are unlikely to claim mason because it's easy to counterclaim and because 1 wolf for 1 mason is a bargain for Team Good, and getting himself believed over the real masons involves exposing even more wolves.

There are plenty of roles for FC to claim to get an extra day or two. Mason isn't one of them.

Of course, this hardly could be lost on him, so he might be claiming it on the idea that claiming it falsely is a bad idea, so a smart fellow like himself would never do that if he were really a wolf.

So yeah. Don't contact him.

+++++++++++++++++

And I refuse to partake in this discussion, as I already quit one game because of it.

But think about this: If claiming Mason is a guarantee that said person is a Mason, then doesn't that mean that Mason is an overbalanced role, and should therefore be eliminated from the game?

Afterall, Fleeing Coward says: I'm a Mason, don't kill me. No one disputes him, because the wolves certainly wouldn't do that.

Seer and Baner contact Mason, instant Network is created.

Murska
2009-09-16, 06:38 PM
Well, as long as the idea is that nobody contacts Fleeing Coward until he's proven beyond reasonable doubt: Wait at least a night and part of the next day to see if anyone counterclaims and give the seer time to scry him.

Then yes, Masons can, by coming out, create a network.

Baner can also do that. Seer can technically do that. Any villager powerrole can.

Guancyto
2009-09-16, 06:49 PM
There are also ways the wolves can work with that. FC claiming Mason right now would mean he's a) likely to be telling the truth and b) likely to be attacked tonight. If, for instance, someone's already claimed Baner to a wolf...

Also, a wolf claiming a power role to the Mason and only the Mason has its own set of benefits, especially if the real power role doesn't trust him enough to speak up (for instance, if his role claim smells like a kettle of fish). It's very strong role, but definitely not one-sided.

Murska
2009-09-16, 06:53 PM
Wolf claiming a powerrole to a Mason is a workable tactic, although it pretty much guarantees the wolf is going to die sooner or later. But he can do quite a bit before that.

Day 1 Ends

The paranoia is almost palpable. Somewhere in this crowd were some of the very beings that had been causing so much death and destruction all over Haven, and if you don't find them all soon, they will kill every last one of you.

It doesn't take long before the accusations begin to fly, both implicit and explicit. Fingers are pointed, threats are made, the group is already fragmenting.

At one point a punch is thrown, and a group degenerates into a full-scale brawl. The participants are pulled apart forcibly and one is dragged off into another room amid constant protests of innocence.

The victim is beat to death, and only when his blood stains the floor do you see that he wasn't lying after all...

You chose to kill DD the cookiemonster. He was a Victim.

Night falls and the already dark hallways become pits of nothing but shadow. Finding your way around is difficult at best, and knowing that predators lurk in the shadows doesn't make it any easier. Some choose to sleep, or at least to attempt it, others try to remain awake, but how long can one go without sleep before everything starts to fray?

Night 1 begins now and ends on Thursday, Sept 17th at 7pm. Please send all night actions to myself and Shadowcaller

Claire wandered the corridors timidly in the silence. What was this; some kind of game show? They’d picked her up on her way home from school, they must have knocked her out with some kind of gas or something. Were they allowed to do that? That wasn’t legal, was that? They couldn’t be allowed to do that. Perhaps some psychopath stalker freak had kidnapped her and was keeping her for his sick desires. The thought sent shivers down her spine. Claire hadn’t seen any cameras, but that sicko must be watching her somehow. She turned her attention to the portraits lining the hall. They all seemed to be immaculately dressed men. Many of them looked rather gaunt, and most had dark hair. Examining them closely for eyeholes Claire jumped back in surprise when the portraits lips curled up in a smile. Screaming, she threw her bag at the psychopath, knocking the portrait off the wall. There was no hole where it had hung. Eyes fixed on where the picture had hung she crept forward, and snatching up her bag ran off through the manor.

It was some time later, and Claire had began to calm down. Perhaps there was a hatch behind the picture, and the man had been able to close it on time. Perhaps this was all some huge prank. Turning a corner she entered a room, this time with other people in it. Perhaps they could help her escape from this place.
“Do any of you have a torch? If not, I’m off to the basement to see if I can fix any of the fuses. This place is dark enough at daytime. If anyone wants to come with that’d be appreciated, especially if they know where it actually is.”

Kristi seems immediately beset by bad luck, taking several turns to manage to roll anything that will let her pieces escape from their home... irony!

She comes off as a fairly nice person, although rather apt to frustration, and it doesn't take very long for her to begin to demand that -he- roll the dice on her turn since they obviously don't seem to like her very much.

"Oh? Not too much... I've been attending the University and jumping between majors... I currently have settled on Psychology... its somewhat disturbing to see how easily people will allow their fears to command them..."

Phant climbs down from the upper floor into the main room.

Sure, there were people there, but the upper floor is no place for a eleven year old at night.

Wow, places are filling up.
The master bedroom, the garden, the basement!?!?

It appears we have some very brave souls to brave the basement!
There are SPIDERS down there don't you know?

Sheelah gently reaches out, and accepts his help. Ďakujeme vám. She says, bowing her head slightly. She heads toward the door to leave the room.
She turns back, wondering if Robert is going to come with her. Ideš?

The kitchen seems to be popular!

"So, I think someone mentioned a midnight feast?"
