Since neither Loopy nor Recaiden were around by the time old thread hit 51: Here you go: Random Banter 127.
Banter my minions! Banter!
...
Or, you know - pretend I said something really witty and endearing here.

Rules

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

And here, linked for your convenience, are the previous incarnations of this thread.

I want a sundae....

Well, my school has ice cream at every meal for those who want it. In an hour and a half I could be having it for lunch... :smallwink:

And before anyone goes on about the Freshman Fifteen (which I'm sick of hearing about)...the real-life average weight gain in college is between 2.5 and 7 pounds.

I'm pretty sure I lost weight. It's really weird. Someone will ask me "what did you have for lunch?" and I'll respond "5 doughnuts, a sandwhich and a large hot chocolate." and then they'll say "Christ, man, how much weight have you gained in the last month?" and then I'll say "I lost 5 pounds." and then I get chased down and brutally murdered by hordes of angry females.

Alleine, if you're looking for fish which isn't fishy, I can recommend the yellowtail 'hamachi' at a sushi bar. It tastes inexplicably creamy and barely fishy at all. That is, I believe, the umami base flavor which was overwhelming my tongue. Canned mackerel is mildly fishy, very wet-textured with all the oil in it even when packed in brine, and cheap to sample. (Note to self: mackerel for dinner, sans sauce.)

Yes, fish is better the fresher it is, but even a new-landed and pan-fried fish is still going to be fishy. That being said, I'll dream of that fish-n-chips on the Aran Islands for awhile, and not because of the french fries.

*****

'Paladin' remains the code word for 'not only do I hold beliefs, I am willing to talk about them'. The class should've been called Proselytizer. I should have been called Paladin.

Its not just the flavor though. My dad made some fish soup that I had a hard time eating because 1) I have detested fish for so long that I instinctively make it worse than it actually is, and 2) because its texture is much too squishy. On top of it tasting like fish :P

I had a similar problem with some shrimp my dad prepared. They tasted fine, but I couldn't get over the horrid fact that it was about as solid as molten jello.

BC = British Columbia. Is in Canada

On fish-related news: I detest sushi and cannot stand the taste. Don't come to me and say "No - you're problem is the texture" like so many Japanophiles. It's the taste.
Yes, I liv ein Japan and there is an abundance of sushi joints and people who like sushi. I can deal.
I also hate the taste of Jalepenos. No, I don't think they're too hot. People who think Jalapenos are too hot have something seriously wrong with them. Theres much spicier lollipops out there.
(My apologies for being too lazy to find the enyay)
Spicy is also - far and away, my least favourite of the four flavours to the point where I will avoid spicy foods if theres an alternative and eat sparingly if there is none.

Y'know what's really strange down here at the mo'?
Cars.
Typically, our area's best car would be an nth hand old BMW. The most normal car would be a third - hand Ford of some sort.
But in the last fortnight I've seen:
An Audi TT - I think this is a fairly old 'supercar', but here it's the equivalent of a Buggatti,
A proper old - fashioned classic Jaguar E type,
Three Alpha Romeos (one was a 166),
A Jaguar X type and
A Porsche Carrera GT in the Tesco's car park!
Why? What? Why is a supercar I remember seeing (and being loved by) Top Gear down here? In Tesco's?

There's a conspiracy going on . . .

ION:
I got a card from one of my great - auntie's today. One I've seen a grand total of once. I thought it was a normal 'Congratulations on passing your exams!' card.
Inside: cheque. A cheque for £250.
Koorly:

Welp.. Now you owe her a thank you letter and a visit. :smallcool:

I'm not sure what else you owe her due to your particularly british and or welsh ethnic customs, but, I imagine you can find out on your own.

. . .

I'm not Welsh. Dihan's Welsh. Koorly isn't. And yes, there'll be a thank you letter and a visit. Mainly because I don't know her address even though I know where she lives.
Unless she moved. I know one of them moved recently, but which? For the record, I have eight great - aunts and ten great - uncles still living.

That and getting into Oxford with five A levels Fred. Pretty impressive in a way. I got thirty quid by comparison (nadda for GCSE if you wanted to know)

Oh man, Angles is at the same time amazing and really depressing... Hip hop at its best.

I got nothing for GCSEs either. Ironically, it turns out that in three years I'll have the last number of GCSEs out of myself, Little Brother and Little Sister.
Little Brother has fifteen GCSEs (or equivalents) and Little Sister will have a massively impressive 20 GCSEs (or equivalents).

There is something I hate about my reading list though. Victorian long poems. Aurora Leigh, In Memoriam, The Bothie of Tober na Vuolich, The Princess and shorter longer poems.
They are doing my head in.
This is from the girl who read Paradise Lost in ten days including notes and introduction; the poetic Iliad and Odyssey (and prose Aeneid) and Dante's Divine Comedy.
The Victorian ones are so mindnumbingly boring and long and convoluted. I like Tennyson, but I hate long poems.

But I am amused by Goblin Market (http://plexipages.com/reflections/goblin.html) by Christina Rosetti.
Oh, I read part of this in E Lit earlier this year. It was very amusing, read the extract in the spoiler to find out:

She cried "Laura," up the garden,
"Did you miss me ?
Come and kiss me.
Never mind my bruises,
Hug me, kiss me, suck my juices
Squeezed from goblin fruits for you,
Goblin pulp and goblin dew.
Eat me, drink me, love me;
Laura, make much of me:
For your sake I have braved the glen
And had to do with goblin merchant men."

Laura started from her chair,
Flung her arms up in the air,
Clutched her hair:
"Lizzie, Lizzie, have you tasted
For my sake the fruit forbidden?
Must your light like mine be hidden,
Your young life like mine be wasted,
Undone in mine undoing,
And ruined in my ruin;
Thirsty, cankered, goblin-ridden?"
She clung about her sister,
Kissed and kissed and kissed her:
Tears once again
Refreshed her shrunken eyes,
Dropping like rain
After long sultry drouth;
Shaking with aguish fear, and pain,
She kissed and kissed her with a hungry mouth.

Yep. 16. And I will hang onto my childhood as long as I want. I don't think anyone should ever let go of their childhood really, not completely anyway, you can leave it for a little and dust it off someday. Everyone should have a moment where they feel like a kid again.

If your parents don't want to give monetary rewards to you, well that's their decision, and you have to deal with it, because until you leave home, what they say is pretty much final.

If people could make it so that other people couldn't have things just because the original person doesn't have those things then everyone would have nothing in the end.

Um...I wasn't criticising your parents, Fred. :smalltongue: And I have left home now, although still under their auspices, as they're paying for my (very expensive) eddumacation....

They did give me money every month to buy my own clothes and stuff and teach me budgeting. It didn't entirely go as planned, though, because instead of setting money aside every month, I just saved it all and shopped exclusively at thrift stores.

I was mainly talking to Thufir. And the white text. But I guess it still stands... sort of.

And I don't get pocket money off of my parents. And I've had saving my money hammered into my skull. All I get each week is money for my karate lessons. I get to keep the change (all £3 of it). So in effect, I make £3 to £10 a week, depending on whether I go to karate that week or not. So while my parents are quite generous when I succeed, at other times they are very tight with their money, just like me.

In fact, the only big purchases I've ever made are:
My GBA SP (£120 with two games).
My PS3 (£280 with two games).
That's it for massive purchases.

Well, I need to get back to my student house which has no internet. So adieu.
I leave you with this, and as your god I insist that you read it this time:

I win on singing.
To be more precise, I've been singing Handel's Messiah for 7 consecutive days and have 2 more to go. Britlanders, listen to Radio 3 at 6:30 on sunday and know that I am there, singing in the Royal Albert Hall with 300 other members of assorted youth choirs from around the country.
It's going to be awesome.

My laptop was an early christmas present.
In fact, most of my stuff is early presents and minor things I've bought with my own money. Most of my games are presents, most of my books were bought with gift cards or as presents and even my Nintendo DS was an early christmas present. Yay for using Christmas to my advantage!

EDIT: Thufir, I can't promise that I'll have the radio turned on/remember, but I'll try and listen (if I can remember what frequency BBC Radio 3 is anyway).

My much-loved laptop was a gift around last May. I had been wanting one for a while, and my parents were finally convinced that I needed one for school and general use. Things have been so much easier since I got one, fighting over the computer is now a thing of the past!

Funny that I quit MMORPGs just a month or so before I was no longer in danger of being kicked off of the computer during a team thing. :smalltongue:

I rarely ever have to fight for a computer. Mainly because my sister has her own computer. But before my laptop.... GRRRRR, well, let's just say that my sister seemed to prefer my computer to hers for some reason, despite the fact that hers was faster anyway.

Hey! A Thread that looks like fun! I wanna try it!

I don't have a laptop, but I am basically the sole user in my household of our massive (very very massive) G5 Mac Desktop, so its almost like I have my own computer. In fact, for most of the summer, I have had TWO of my own computers, since our poor, neglected Frankenstein PC was also infrequently used by my family. When school starts up next week, though, I'm sure my sister will need to use it a lot, so I'll be back down to one computer.
