I think given V now treating his familiar as if Blackwing were a living entity, I think V has earned some XP for finally interacting with his familiar rather than treating him as just another item in his inventory.

yes, exactly like that. even though V got no combat XP during the splice, s/he should have earned a ton of role play XP and gone up at least one level.
