Okay, I'm looking for a good FREE MMORPG, not a browser game, I repeat, no browser games. Something similar to Call of Duty
Any ideas?
EDIT: for pc's

If you mean fully 3D, then you might be out of luck.

3D is is expensive. And is generally hard to do without a disk, and would take a very big download, most likely.

Call of Duty? So you're looking more for an online shooter than an actual MMORPG.

Are you saying that Bethesda is responsible for some sort of overgeneralization of the term RPG? All of their games are, in fact, RPGs--some of them just have shooter elements.

I would argue other way around.

Let's see: quests, moral choices, stats, skills, inventory, strong underlying narrative, basic freedom of choice, NPCs, character creation and customization, loot and currency...no, I'm going to have to go with RPG on this one.

The only similarity to an FPS is that you can play in realtime, in the first person.

Alot of people blame Bethesda for alot of stupid stuff. They make good games.

Anyway, shooter RPG.... hrm. Well, its not free, but the only MMO shooter I can think of is Global Agenda (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cat_7bfzzs). Which isn't even out yet.

Planetside? Last I remember it had something crazy like a one year free trial.

Hmm. Global Agenda seems like it could actually be a lot of fun. I'll have to check it out when it's released.

I'm not big on shooters but the character creator for APB (All Points Bulletin) makes me drool! I have no clue when it's due out though.

I'd post a link to a vid of it but I'm at work and can't access YouTube. You can find it there.

Oh.. and I'm sure it won't be free.

How's that like Call of Duty?

An important question is what do you mean by free? Free to obtain, like Runescape? (Not that that's what you're looking for). Or free to continue playing after buying, UNLIKE WoW.

Free MMORPG... similar to Call of Duty? I've never played CoD, but I assume you mean an FPS with some character or class customization to it?

There are a few games I can think of (nothing that fits exactly, though).

Tremulous (http://tremulous.net/) is an "Aliens vs. Humans" kind of game. Both sides play amazingly differently: Aliens are deadly in melee, while Humans have tons of guns to choose from. It starts you off every battle with just the basic equipment, but as you do damage to enemies you earn money/points to upgrade yourself with. Techlevel increases with the team's total points, allowing bigger and better ways shoot or chomp the enemy. VERY different tactics from most FPS games, but very cool to play, especially as a wall-crawling alien. It rewards more cautious play than most deathmatch style games (running in and dying is typically referred to as "feeding" the enemy team, since it gives them points for ugrades).

Battlefield Heroes (http://www.battlefieldheroes.com/) isn't hugely complex, but it is free, and has character experience, upgradable abilities and great heaping mountains to options for customizing your characters' looks. Currently has a bug called "Error 15" which locks a lot of people out of most servers (myself included), but they're going to patch it any day now, they say. Plays a lot like the Battlefield games, with the realism dialed down to -4. Very casual, light-hearted FPS. Just look at the screenshots or videos; it's cartoonier than nearly anything, riding the wings of planes is a legitimate method of transport, and hurling explosives everywhere is downright encouraged. The Soldier class even has an ability called Grenade Spam.

Air Rivals (http://www.airrivals.net/) is... uh... about as far from Call of Duty as you can get, now that I think about it. Basically, you get to fly around in spaceship/tank/plane-things called Gears and shoot at stuff. Unlike the other games this really is an MMORPG, but with lots of action and environments to fly around in. If you can't aim properly, you can't kill anything. Pretty heavy on stats and grinding for experience and stuff, though, so it might be not what you're looking for. Supposedly the giant PVP events are great fun, but I wouldn't know, since you have to level quite a bit to even pose a threat to most of the players in them. I slam into walls/ground a lot while flying around, too. Luckily, it does only a small amount of damage. Most players seem more graceful than me at flight. One of the Gears is literally a flying tank, and I always get a kick out of watching them coasting about through the air. Aerodynamic, it is not.

Dungeons and Dragons online is free on Wednesday, though you have to pay a few one time fees if you want to open up more of the content and not have restrictions. I think they put the restrictions on so that folks dont sell gold as easily.

It is actually more in line with FPS than WoW so what you do and where you are at actually matter. No hitting 'auto attack' and then watching little timers.

This is correct. You don't need to pay and the game is free to download. It's over 4 gigs, so have a fast connection or a lot of time.

As a side note, I reopened my account in DDO. Now that it's free, I don't feel cheated if I can't play for a while.

Same here, I often go weeks without playing which in a month to month subscription plan would be a waste of my money whereas paying for the content I use when I use it feels like a better value.

There is some content you need to pay for though but the cost is rather low comparatively. You can pay less than one month of what used to be subscription and have 75% of the game available to you.

Yep. There's only a few things I'm all that interested in buying. Warforged,s o I can use all my characters. Possibly Favored Soul. Sigals are a must. Some of the extra adventures, maybe.

Everything can be bought with in game funds, you just have to grind to get enough favor.

Oh, and one extra: Once you've bought something, your account upgrades (permanently) to premium. 4 characters per server, no cap on gold, and you can send messages in game.

I thought Planetside was an MMO FPS. Not an MMORPG. It does sound fun though.

Also a free downloadable RPGish tactics games is Battle for Wesnoth. It's turn based, 2D (3D sprites) but still fun.

I'll just leave this here:
http://www.schtserv.com/

Sci-fi MMORPG, free. You get to shoot stuff down with guns and/or swords or nuke them. An old classic, altough the graphics start to get outdated, but that also means it runs smoothly in any machine nowadays.

If you want something almost identical to WoW, try Perfect World (http://www.perfectworld.com/). Can someone post a link to DDO? For some reason, all my compy wants to give me is shoot-off sites. Who knows. Since DDO's free now, I might as well try it, methinks.

This might be some help. It's a little slow, though. And the forums are filled with all the vitriol ten thousand bitter, malnurished keyboard-jockeys can summon.

Which is a lot.

www.ddo.com is the actual site, download the hi res client if your computer can handle it, since it makes a pretty significant difference in the graphical quality.

Since the game was released to the general public yesterday the ddo site has had a lot of slowness.

Here is the download location link, hopefully it won't be too slow to connect for you.

Just so's ya know, 'RPG' and 'FPS' are not exclusive terms. You can have an RPG shooter. Fallout 3. You shoot people. You roleplay. It is a roleplaying shooter.

I suggest you go here (http://www.freemmogamer.com/). it might take a little while to find the right game, but its a really good site. Its pretty easy to find a free mmo game you want to play. I do reccomend Runes of Magic for a MMORPG. It's nothing like CoD, but it's fun and it's really easy to level. It uses quests to level you and As of level 19/7 I haven't done any. Also if you do join you can look up Bloodfist on the Govinda server. You'll have a friend to help you and possibly a small guild.
