Xykon has every possible abjuration on his phylactry (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0656.html), and yet one of the most important ones - the that tells him where it is in case it gets stolen, and brings it back if it gets lost (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/instantSummons.htm) - he doesn't have.

Why do you think that is? (Other than, you know, PLOT)

Because that spell is a Conjuration, not an Abjuration. :smallwink:

Also, Xykon's lack of Instant Summons is well established given his inability to find his keys, and him not being able to summon his crown back.

Sorcerers don't get that many spells, and a 7th level spell is kind of a big deal. We know his other 7th level spells are Finger of Death, Mass Hold Person and Greater Teleport. Those are a mite more important (or at least bound to be used more often) than Instant Summons. That one is more for wizards, who can memorize anything they like one day and something else the next.

Couldn't he get someone else to cast it for him? The way I understand it, he needs to cast a cantrip on it, and then he can pay a wizard to cast it on the phylactry, get the sapphire, and blam.
I never assumed he cast all the abjuration on the phylactry himself, like you said, he's a sorcerer, and item spells are not something all that handy. So I just assumed he took it to some wizard to get it enchanted and protected, possibly then killing him for kicks :P

But I think that out of all the spells he could've cast on his phylactry, that would be the most important one. Its like casting Protection from Stealth, especially important considering its so well protected from divination.

And Teevo's receipt.

Camon, it's Xykon we are talking about. Red Cloak can baby sit him only so much.

:xykon:: I've forgotten what half of them actually do!

There's your answer. :smalltongue:

This thread is over. Nothing to see here.

Xykon should still have had it on there; just because it is a different school doesn't mean that it shouldn't have been protected that way.

Sigh. Do we really need a serious answer? Those are boring after all. :smalltongue:

Fine. Here's your Serious Answer:

The magics that Xykon/Redcloak/Tsukiko/Random Scroll put on the phylactery purposefully interfere with Conjuration Magic. And they decided that stopping someone from conjuring the phylactery away was more important than the off-chance that Xykon might need to conjure it back.

There.

Done.

However, I prefer what JaxGaret had to say about this thread. :smalltongue:

Furthermore, Instant Summons dus not work if the object is in the possession of another creature, such as one of the many monsters in the Obligatory Sewer-Themed Labyrinth.

Clearly, a wizard didn't do it.
