So I have decided to make a backup character who is supposed to go against the normal part of MMOs/Pen&Papar/etc games where characters (or avatars on sites like Gaia) are made to represent an idea version of the IRL person.

Been wanting to do it for a bit, but when I saw this picture I knew it had to be done:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f173/celestialkin/app_full_proxyphp.jpg
Old Hillbilly Kooter

Old Hillbilly xxxx is a crazy old koot.
Married his cousin, and didn't think nothing of it.
Had three kids till the Mrs caught him with her niece and tried to cut off his nids.
Barely a tooth in his mouth, though he'd gladly give you mouth-to-mouth.
His first name's Kooter, and he's a creepy old tooter.

Not too sure what route to go with this guy, but I am currently thinking bard. This way I get to use my macbook to put a playlist on my Itunes titled "Annoying Hillbilly Music" to play whenever he plays his banjo.

Not sure if banjos are stated out in D&D, but I am sure I can figure something out.

p.s. Would taking old age category for him be allowable starting up as a 1st level character?

Ricky Bobby? Billy Joe Bob? Bubba?

Ricky Bobby? Billy Joe Bob? Bubba?

I was thinking Billy Bob right off the bat, but it is so overdone. I am hoping someone has an idea for something more original.

Bubba Joe? Earl?

Stuff like that

Thanks for all the ideas so far.

I getting the idea there are not many stereotypical hillbilly names out there besides Bob and Billy. LoL.

I was for a bit thinking of paying homage to the Wacky Races by calling him Lazy Luke and taking the Wild Cohort to get a bear he'd name Blubber, but now I realized that I have a country semi-redneckish friend who has a very interesting last name: xxx. He claims it's a "porno name". Old Hillbilly xxxx roll of the tongue at all? I was going to play him as used to "having no free women around in the mountains", so...

Hathcock? How about Bill Hickok?

Probably too well known.

Ol' Cousin Bubba,
Uncle May
Grampy
Ol' Hogwash
Sonny Huckle

Do you want good Bluegrass/Country/Mountain Music?

Or do you want annoying stuff?

Down from the mountain is a brilliant collection of the sort of thing I think you are after. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=8F072B5251861E16&search_query=down+from+the+mountain

I'm pretty sure there are banjos in Song and Silence. Can't check now though.

Edit: Nope, only "Banjoleles". Their existence does point to the existence of banjos, though.

Would this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWvdA7SCPNc&feature=PlayList&p=06643985BCFAC9A3&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=16)work? I realize it's kind of silly, and might have too many other instruments, but I'm partial to it. :smallwink:

Bard works for class. Or possibly some sort of crazy barbarian/bard multiclass situation?

Thanks, but yeah I was kinda hoping for the annoying/funny stuff.

Thank you for checking.

I am not very familiar with how bards work yet, but would it simply count as a string instrument?

Or would that inbanjo-like instrument work?

Yes! Thanks, that will work well. A bit cartoon, but still good given the amount that is probably out there.

And barbarian/bard? Would be interesting I guess, and a friend just recommended the same over the phone. However, would taking old age hurt him with the penalties?

Hmm, it might. However, you could either:

A) Ask your DM if he'd be willing to ignore aging.

or

B) Make the "old" hillbilly just look old but actually only be in the middle-aged category. A life-long lack of teeth-brushing and hard labor could easily lead to him looking quite a bit older than he actually is.

If I ever get to use him (he is a backup character at the moment) I will ask the DM. Thanks!

p.s. The friend mentioned above with the unusual name called me up, and told me a real interesting story about a real life boonies guy named Kooter. Think I will go with that then for now. Thanks for the help there.

Now I just need some good (or should I say bad?) hillbilly music.

I was always a fan of Jethro.

I named a dog Jethro after Beverly hillbillies and Jethro Tull.

Music:

Dueling Banjos
Soundtrack to Brother Where Art Thou
Some Johnny Cash prolly would work.

Hank and Earl are both good redneck names...

May I suggest to you Ray Stevens video found here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRC2fdDVMiI) for some redneck ideas.

How about Rosco for a good Hillbilly name? It's also a strong name.

In the same name as Billy Bob, if you are going for satire call him Bobby-Bob.

Looked it up.

Maybe the DM would give me a rival to "duel" with?

That sounds good. I am going to look at all the options and keep thinking. It's not set in stone yet.

How has nobody posted DUELING BANJOS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpBdmYRWRP8&feature=related) yet?!?!?
That's the definition of Hillbilly!

It's from the movie Deliverance. (Original Scene here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tqxzWdKKu8))

I would make the hill billy an elf simply because the idea of an elven hill billy is awesome. Reminds me of this. (http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=1253)
