i have a player in a game i am running who has a group of gnolls tied in to his back story. I read the MM entry and i'm feeling the need to flush a few things out.

1. How do gnolls age? what are their age categories?

2. Are they matriarcle like hyenas? or do they not care about gender and it's just strongest wins the cheiftan crown?

3. are there any other scources for Gnolls that i'm missing and might find usefull?

4. should i just make all this stuff up?

Advice and creative idea's welcome

There's a dragon article that talked about gnolls.

Gnolls of Ebberon (http://eberron.wikia.com/wiki/Gnoll) should help a bit.

Races of the Wild has some information about gnolls, including starting age/age categories and society.

This would be a 4E article, but you can still use a lot of the fluff as a guide if you're running 3.5 or Pathfinder...

Well, since gnolls are largely inspired by hyenas and were-hyenas, checking out their wikipedia articles might spark some ideas.
