I feel there's always an interesting convo going around and would like to start one of my own:
HAZING! (Also known as Inititation Rituals)
Now, while technically illegal in many universities/frathouses/various militaries, it still successfully occurs in some places. I'm hoping more for funny stories, than the really sick stuff that occurs sometimes...
My own experiences:
HS - Nothing
University -
My 1st year at university was where I experienced my first and only experiences with it. I was in the dorms at my university, in buildings with 6 floors per dorm, alternating boy and girl floors that were "paired." We got to watch a video of our sister floor's hazing of the 1st years, which involved all sorts of crazy/mean crap:
Gum in hair, brushing teeth with I still don't know what, drinking strange concoctions etc... Doing all sorts of weird crap.
The guy "hazing" event all the 1st years thought was going to happen right away. In fact, it was advertised all year long, and didn't happen until the *last* day of classes. A bunch of floor alumni were invited and we had "box day." Which involved being brought into a dark room, blindfolded and spun around. There was lots of holloring and then I got my blindfold taken off. I was given a condom and shown a box with a hole in it. I was the first one in, then asked "WHAT DO YOU THUNDER HAMMER?!?!!"
I put the condom in the box in total confusion, to much shrieking and laughter. I heard some of the alumni going "wow. Totally different from our event!"
Participation was optional, and our floor advisor went through it first to make sure it was actually ok. That was it. It was totally lame in hindsight.
The next semi "hazing" event was room selection for next year. Events started craziest first (for best pick) to "easy ones" by the end for less desireable rooms.
I went first, for the game of "chicken" which involved going to our sister floor, getting all teh girls out, then finding out it was a game of "chicken" to see who could take the most clothes off. There was three of us. I think one guy took off a sock, the other guy took off his sock and a shirt. But me, I knew what I was doing from the start. It was really funny: I took of my shirt, the crowd goes,"OOooooo" took of my pants "Ahhhh"" took of my boxers "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!" and they all ran away. The best part was later watching the video of it... Where my the camera suddenly veers off wildly from me when the boxers came off.
The next morning in the cafeteria (our floors had assigned tables, we ate with our sister floor) a whole bunch of the girls wouldn't talk to me or look me in the eye. i couldn't figure it out. I did figure it out though, when some other girls were super flirtacious... like "Thunder Hammer... I never knew you were like that!" Didn't amount to anything. At least I got the best room I wanted though!
Back to room selection... The other contests were running through the mud flats, where contestants were graded on speed and muddiness... Who could run back to their room and eat a page from the textbook fastest.. Who could print off a page of porn the fastest etc... Oh, and there was a mystery drink. Rum, Milk, Coke and shreddies. My roommate drank it, said it was fine until he saw the lumps (of shreddies) float to the top.
