Are there any game systems out there made for Old-West style games?

Deadlands!

Well, that's not really Old West so much as it is Wild West.

However, Deadlands anyway.

Also, I would suggest using All Flesh Must Be Eaten along with a Fistful O' Zombies.

I remember playing boot hill once, of course all I really remember was getting head shot for an instakill for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You could try the Serenity RPG, it's a Future Old West.

I've never played, but I do own the book and I've made a few characters. I really like it, although there are a few issues (like the initial point-buy system not scaling well).

Deadlands is awesome fun. Although not so much Old/Wild West as Weird West. If you're OK with that, though, it's a delightful setting.

Boot Hill, if you can find a second hand copy! :smalltongue:

Deadlands (http://deadlands.com/games.html) is good! It is Weird West though - hauntings and weird science are nearly as common as six shooters. There's also Aces & Eights (http://www.kenzerco.com/aces_n_eights/) if you want something a bit less 'weird'.

Sidewinder Recoiled (http://paizo.com/store/sale/greenRoninApocalypseSale2/v5748btpy7ev5&source=top) is a very straight forward d20 Modern system take on the Old West, which is quite historical - not a goblin in sight... but it's easily compatible with other d20 products if you want to add that sort of thing in.

+1 for Deadlands 1st ed!!!

....but stay away from the d20 version like it was a toothless lady boy giving late night group discounts because it will only end up in pain and embarrassment!!

Another vote for Deadlands. I would recommend Hell on Earth.

Also avoid the D20 versions IMHO. The cards are just more fun.

I am going to recommend Aces & Eights, but Dead Lands and Boot Hill are both fine games.

No one has said it yet, mostly because I don't think any of you have heard of it, Western City (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/home/detail.php?qsID=1701&qsSeries=43&PHPSESSID=135175262a2cb562fd24d2989d4e6ec6), I will admit I have yet to actually try the system, but it looks interesting enough that I will probably drop a few dollars on it when/if I get the money

Deadlands!

Alternatively, there's always GURPS, which adapts to every time period. I'm pretty sure that (in the old version) there should be a splatbook about it.
And there are rules for sciaman magic.

It's been said before, but I'll chime in on Deadlands first edition. (It's being reprinted soon, should be easy to find.)

Although it DOES have strong supernatural elements, you can strip'em out pretty easy. Just have everyone create mundane characters, and go for spaghetti western plots.

onther vote for Deadlands. You can pick up Deadlands Reloaded it came out not that long ago and is still in print.

It's not as good as the original, though (or so I hear, having never bought the book).

That said, Deadlands: Reloaded uses the Savage Worlds rule set. It's very tactical and streamlined to enhance speed of play. If that's not what you're looking for, it may well be "not as good" to you.

If you like oWoD stuff, you could try Wyld Wyld West (http://www.amazon.com/Werewolf-Storytelling-Historical-Werewolf-Apocalypse/dp/1565043405/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253916999&sr=1-10). Cowboy werewolves!

Another vote for Aces & Eights. Combat is gritty and realistic, getting shot hurts, and you are likely to die from infection.

Me and my group love this game. My favorite by far. I highly reccommend it. Plus Kenzer & Co customer service is great.

I had a question about Deadlands Reloaded...can you play the game with out the savage worlds rulebook? Or is the Deadlands book, just the setting?

Cold Steel Reign. It's like Deadlands, but grittier and less gonzo post-apoc.

You guys keep saying Wierd West when talking about Deadlands, do you mean something like Wild Wild West with Will Smith?

You guys keep saying Wierd West when talking about Deadlands, do you mean something like Wild Wild West with Will Smith? It's got Wild Wild West's clockwork machines but it also has magic and 'demons'. Wikipedia has a synopsis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadlands#Setting). Edit: There are potential spoilers on the Wikipedia page.

Interestingly, it has some similarities to Shadowrun's history. Both start with a ceremony by native Americans to kick out the 'invaders'. Both are set in a balkanized world. And both worlds are threatened by something...I'll avoid any more potential spoilers. :smallwink:
