mycartoons - funky, freaky, fluffy

Hi, all.

I'm from Germany and have been running a webcomic site for a while now. Last weekend I finished translating the site and over 100 of my comics into English and went officially public with the English version of the site on Monday.

The comics are single panel cartoons, not the light-hearted family friendly stuff. Humor ranges from just plain silly and absurd over subtle to dark/black or even morbid.

And some good news:

My submission to the Amazon Comicstrip Superstar Contest made it to round 2. I`m curious to see how far they will let my submission get since it`s not the light hearted family friendly humor you`ll usually see in newspaper comicstrips.

One of my cartoons for the Carlsen Cartoon Contest (Carlsen is Germany`s biggest comic & cartoon book publisher) made it to the final 20 and has therefore a chance to be chosen as one of the 3 winners. I`m waiting eagerly for the results to be announced next week and am hoping to be lucky enough to make it to the winner´s podium.

It's pretty nice, well drawn, and reminds me of The Far Side.

I know how difficult this is, but I find that most of the comics fall just an inch short of being actually funny. You know how rec.humor.funny classifies jokes as "smirk", "chuckle", "laugh" and so on? This is firmly at the "smirk" level.

Can´t be funny for everyone ;)

I get a lot of "hilarious" and "couldn´t stop laughing" comments and emails, at least in Germany, so there are a lot of people who get the humor.

But it`s usually either people laughing their asses off or people don`t getting it at all. There seems to be rarely an in between. Heck, I got even hate-comments and emails from people insulting me and my work, saying it`s so disgusting and I should not be allowed to show it in public and that I`m really bad at drawing and shouldn´t be called cartoonist at all...

So, I guess I`m doing something right :D

And some news:

I made it to the finals of the (german) Carlsen Cartoon Contest, didn´t win though. But as a result of being a finalist my cartoon is being displayed at the Book Fair in Frankfurt right now where it wil be seen by hundreds of thousands of people.

Furthermore I`m among the 50 people who made it to the semi-finals of the Amazon/McMeel Comic Strip Superstar Contest. The 10 finalists will be announced on 28th October.

I didn´t expect that they would let me get even this far in the contest since my stuff is everything you would never see in a newspaper strip. Perhaps they did it because of that, who knows. But now that I´m there I hope I will be lucky enough to make it to the finals. Would be great to have my cartoons be seen by a big audience like that of Amazon :)
