There's that crayon hobbit (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0276.html): Serini Toormuck

Edit:
Not to mention there is possibly a whole village (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0125.html)awaiting death.

And let's not forget the halflings from Belkar's village. Even if they were only mentioned and some of them probably posthumously.

Plus, he's wearing a hat that only gnomes seem to wear (As far as we've seen, at least.)

Oh yeah, I remember them. Come to think of it, they're probably the only halflings in the whole comic besides Belkar.

In fact, they ARE Belkar- they're his not-evil opposites.

In an attempt to actually answer this thread seriously, there was also a random halfling climbing up Mount Celestia (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0493.html).

In SoD...

...the guy that gave Eugene his Blood Oath of Vengeance was a halfling.

So, there's

* Samwose
* Frudu
* Hank
* Tatooist
* Serini

Five halflings, not including Belkar.

Doesn't Tolkein say that a lot of halflings stay at home and don't go on adventures? After all, adventures make you late for your dinner.

Not to mention the Azurites had to get ingredients for Halfling Drop soup from *somewhere*.

EDIT
Wait... now I know what happened to Serini!

Think about it. Soon Kim found out she continued adventuring rather than guarding her gate. Seeing this as dishonorable, he orders her execution and invents a recipe to hid the evidence. :smalltongue:

I'm pretty sure the tatoo artist oath giver is a gnome.

Hobbits. Not halflings. (Yes, I know that D&D halflings are based on them, but calling hobbits "halflings" is rude. ...Not that calling D&D halflings a name based on "half the size of a human" is exactly polite, either.)

Halflings and hobbits are the same thing, the Rohirrim called them Halflings and Hobyltan interchangably

And white people used to call black people "Negroes", but that doesn't make it okay. :smallwink:

Negro isnt offensive but the N-word that rhymes with Wigger is!!
"Negro" is archaic; it's not even in use anymore. And the reason for that is because it was deemed offensive, and people stopped using it.

If you were a hobbit, would you want the tall people calling you "halfling" when your species already has a perfectly good name?

Lvl45DM!
2009-09-30, 12:59 AM
Hey i was arguing in favour of calling them hobbits it was the guy up there somewhere saying hobbits and halflings are different

Nimrod's Son
2009-09-30, 01:07 AM
Nobody said that. Kish just pointed out that when you're talking about LotR, the proper term is "hobbit". "Halfling" is derogatory.

Lvl45DM!
2009-09-30, 01:22 AM
Ohhhh
I see
But i still dont think it was meant to be derogatory, more like slang like how the hobbits call humans and elves Big People

a lot of people are still racist to the bones. :smallfrown:
Yes, but I wasn't talking about those people. It used to be pretty much the default term, now it's rarely used by anyone without some kind of agenda.
