Advice on a PrC

I'm looking at making a Demonologist from BoVD for our campaigne because it fits both flavor and storyline, however i can't find a Base class that fits well, im looking at taking it as early as possible. Any advice on choosing one would help, or an alternative to the demonolgist that still fits the flavor.

Have you considered wizard?


Or if you want an alternate to Demonologist, Archivist (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20051007a&page=3) or [Cloistered (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#clericVariantCloistere dCleric)] Cleric/Thaumaturgist are probably the best approaches to this. Both are far stronger than the Demonologist class.

Focused Conjurer/Master Conjurer is another more powerful option. (Both from Complete Mage.)

Edit:
Actually, if you're playing in the window between levels 9 and 12, the Demonologist might be able to summon the highest-level monsters. Beyond that scope, the class blows.

Yea, I'd suggest Wizard or Archivist (Heroes of Horror). Either is really strong!

How about a malconvoker (http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19872758/Mastering_the_Malconvoker)? A wizard base, and then turns into a really good summoner style caster.

Thaumaturgist from the DMG is the best for an evil summoner. Malconvoker is okay but it's non-evil and the the other summoning classes suck (Fiendbinder can be made to work if you optimize the truespeak check to high heaven ... but meh).

Thanks everyone for the advice, i was considering the Malconvoker strongly then as bang mentioned I noticed it was non evil only.

Reverse everything to make the Slaver of Angels PrC, which cannot be Good, and summons celestial critters to use for malevolent ends.
