My wizard is about to level up, and I was considerring entering Incantrix, it IS a powerful prestige class but to have to further specialize in Abjuration is making me having second thoughs, I have already specialized in Necromancy with Ilussion and Enchantment banned and if I enter Incantriz I would have to give up Another class, so Would you recomend it? and if yes which school should I ban?

You could ban evocation and lose almost nothing. It's a very good prestige class.

Depends. How much do you plan to use metamagic? If the answer is "Not much", it's a waste of feats, a banned school, and you could be leveling in something else instead. If you take it, you take it for it's metamagic crack.

Evocation probably. Banning three schools hurts, though.

Incantatrix is often hailed as pretty much the GOD of Metamagic abuse. So, probably yes, it's worth it, assuming your DM will allow it.

Incantatrix is definitely worth it.

And as long as you do not ban Conjuration or Transmutation, you should be fine.

As the Incantatrix levels pile on, though, you're probably going to have to be careful to not overshadow the rest of your party, it can be made that powerful just about accidentally. You may want to keep that in mind.

Evocation is probably the easiest to give up, and is generally thought of as one of the first schools a wizard should give up (or enchantment). With that said, throw some crazy metamagics (like fell animate, chain spell, sculpt spell) on some conjuration spells and never feel the loss of spell selection.

I am not that fan of metamagic but many of the spells that I like to use more (Enervation, Dissintigrate for example) tend to do good with metamagic such as split ray and althoug it is a bit far in the future the idea of a splitted denergy drain amuses me.

And as for overshadowing the party..well hardly cause right now we are only two on the party and my companion is a shadow (literally)

It will be good if you play to its strengths. It will not be good if you have invested in Spell Focus: Evocation or the like.

If you are still hesitant about Incantatrix, consider Initiate of the Seven Veils or Divine Oracle. Both include a series of defensive class features that are especially helpful if you're playing in a two-player group where you don't have several teammates to help you out if you run into trouble.

Edit: Alternately, mage of the arcane order will give you a larger bag of tricks to pull from. That's helpful in a two-player group, because you have to provide 50% of the group's options in each adventure.

I know of initiate of the sevenfold veil, but I don't know about Divine Oracle In which book is it?

You'll find Divine Oracle in Complete Divine. Although Complete Divine is mostly a cleric book, Divine Oracle is for wizards too! It also has fairly modest entry requirements IIRC. Bonus: DO gives d6 hit dice, in addition to its helpful defensive class features.

If you're already a specialist, Master Specialist is quite good...can be entered early, too. I second IoT7V as a good choice, and also would like to suggest four levels of fatespinner.

:smallbiggrin:To many options.....which to choose, I think I'll have to dive through my books and try to find which would suit my Necromancer best, I suppose that Master Specialist increases the DC for Necromancy spells....

Iot7V is the ultimate defense, Incantatrix is the ultimate* offense. They're often overpowered for most games. That being the case, yes, they are very worth it.

* barring shenanigans and possibly Shadowcraft Mage (which may or may not require shenanigans; I can't remember)

Sadly shadow craft mage is imposible for two reasons

1) I banned ilussion
2) Character is human

3 levels is all you really need to get the most out of Incantatrix. Being able to persist 6+2x int mod spells/day is unbelievably overpowered. Now CoDzilla can have all their sweet round/level spells up all day, and you can have all your OP round/level spells up all day.

I've played several games with Transmutation focused Incantatrixes, and by far, their greatest utility was being able to make every good spell permanent.

Adaptation section of the class takes care of #2 ;) Incantatrix 3 is a core part of my Ultimate Mage builds, several of them in particular use it as their bread and butter ability (massive ungodly debuff one round, Chain it to everyone else the next).

I have played necromancy-heavy wizards with incantatrix, divine oracle, and red wizard.

Divine oracle was probably the least useful for me, but I played in a large party and had a stone golem and a healbot cohort to protect me. Your mileage might vary.

Incantatrix was very effective at producing interesting spell combos, but again, some of those class abilities favor a large party.

I'm probably getting more mileage out of red wizard, which I'm playing right now, since the tattoo focus feat stacks with spell focus, circle magic lets me heighten a spell or two for free, and the caster level boosts let me punch right through spell resistance. Be advised that red wizard doesn't really come into its own until level 5 when you get circle magic, and even then only if you take the leadership feat so you can reliably have access to a circle of wizards willing to augment your spellcasting (unless your DM has made this easy to get in-game).

Also, since you seem to be in FR, Halruuan Elder is even better than Red Wizard (barring ToAL antics), giving still more metamagic reduction. Also, if you want totally loyal circle contributors : simulacrum.
