View Full Version : What would make a good epic-level nemesis? [Just for fun, D&D 3.5]

This is just an idea I had. It's for an upcoming gestalt campaign. We're only starting out at level 6, but I've got my character planned out to level 21 for kicks.

So, what would make a good nemesis for a LG (bit redundant, given Celestial Mystic) Abjurer 11/Celestial Mystic 10//Archivist 20/Hierophant 1? If you could have him at level 6 as well, it would be much appreciated.

Feats, spells, stats, and equipment are unnecessary. I can handle those myself, thank you. :smalltongue: LA + RHD on one side of the gestalt.

what epic rules remake are you using? because the RAW make epic spellcasting worthless unless you use mitigation... problem is, mitigation has a multiple built in holes that allow for infinite DC mitigation... so you can instantly and for free get as many DC0 epic spells as you want doing absolutely anything...

Don't worry about epic-level spellcasting. That's not something my DM is worrying about right now.

The obvious answer is a CE Wizard//Archivist with assorted PrCs. But if you want something more interesting, a Black Ethergaunt that has its racial HD gestalted with Archivist could work.

Can the Ur-Priest class inherit a divine spellcasting list of a previous base class?

Archivist/Ur-Priest//Something Else Nifty (Necrocarnate-specialized Incarnate!) might work to give an evil twist to the Archivist powers.

Nope, Ur-Priests lose all the divine spellcasting they ever had, from wherever. Sorry.

I have only a vague idea, but Changeling with Quick Change and Racial Emulation, enough Horizon Walker to get the Shifting and Aligned planar traits, and on the other side some sort of psion, or sorcerer/archmage with Mastery of Elements.

CE, normally specializes in becoming what his targets most fear, but for this special case he just keeps trying to bait him into putting up wards and then getting around them. Like taking the form of an Aberration, provoking a Dark Knowledge, and then shapeshifting into something that isn't an Aberration. Blasting with fire until he puts up Energy Immunity: Fire, and then immediately blasting with electricity. Waltzing happily through Magic Circles Against anything.

Gibbering orbs. They are fun to fight, although they are very tough foes.

I don't remember Celestial Mystic, I must admit, but it seems the character values knowledge, going by his Archivist levels.

Now, two ways to make a rival:

I'm better than you at the thing you are best at, Ha!

Make a character with similar classes, but way more specialized. If your character is about Knowledge, make him, I don't know, a Focused Specialist Diviner/Loremaster/Unseen Seer on one side, and a Cloistered Cleric of Knowledge on the other. Or an Archivist with Knowledge Devotion.

The exact opposite (tm)

This guy? He doesn't care. Why should he learn how to do stuff, he can do it already. Favoured Soul/Sorcerer or Favoured Soul/Warlock of an evil god, bursting with charisma and personality. Likes burning down libraries while laughing maniacally.
