Yo. It's me, local forum celebrity The Q. You might remember me writing such comics as My Name is Q (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71239)and Super Smash B-list (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105608). Bigger then before. Better then before. Artier then before. Jerkier then before. To perfect my artistic style with practise, here is....

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh230/Qpozz/CriticTitlepage.png

Basically, I will be reviewing and critiquing fancomics on request. To avoid getting into trouble (in case you are the touchy type who can't hear contructive critisism) you must ASK for your comic to be reviewed. And please do, because I would like to keep this job.

Updating whenever.

List of authors who have given me permission to review their comics (I will be adding names to the list if permission is given), and their comics. I will be reviewing them in order, so reserve a spot. However, I will not review them unless they have a certain number of comics, the minimum right now being 10. You may reserve a sopt for your comic to be reviewed before then, but if you do not make the minimum by the time your turn comes around you will be skipped.

Yay! I got a high score!

And I'm planning on tuning it up a bit. The main reason they're adventuring is because they're trying to get rich. Since adventures are always after that. So stay tuned and the story and plot will certainly pick up. Thanks for the review. I may ask for an update critique later.

Q, you should make each comic a link to the fancomic it's reveiwing. It would take to seconds, and let people access the comics quickly and easily to verify what you're talking about.

Trust me, it would take a lot longer then just seconds. Particularly in the links on the first page to Photobucket. :sigh:

Plus, I think the second spoiler I have on the first post is good enough for that purpose. :smalltongue:

Yeah, but what about on the first page? I can't change THOSE pictures! Because they're already links!

Besides, I already have links to every comic I will ever review, so it's completely unnecessary and redundant. I mean, if you cared that much, you could just go to the first page yourself where a link has already been provided.

...Also, I just thought of something just now. You OWN the friggen Comic Index! What the heck do you need links for?! You have them all yourself!

Lastly, I would like to add that I have always known you were a girl, but unlike a lot of dweebs here I don't really care.

This is the opinion of around 90% of fa/tg/uys, including me (otherwise, we wouldn't hang around there). You just have to learn to put up with endless 40K discussions, "This is your [blank]" and "Stat me" threads, and an excess of tripcode users. Plus some really annoying characters.

Cause that was my problem with My Name Is Q. That and the fact that when it did load, all the comic after 112 simply stopped (like, were invisible) halfway through. Almost like they were still loading, but the page was done loading.

No, having all the comics in picture form in the first post can be a bad thing. Then, if there are a large number of comics in the archive, it can take a long time to load the thread.

Sure you aren't thinking about My Name Is Q?
Both My Name Is Q and Rob & Jack have the archives as comics in spoilers, rather than direct links to the comics.

Cause that was my problem with My Name Is Q. That and the fact that when it did load, all the comic after 112 simply stopped (like, were invisible) halfway through. Almost like they were still loading, but the page was done loading.
Sounds like your browser is timing out the connections. It'll automatically close any connections that have stopped sending data, and it can think that this is the case when handling many connections simultaneously (i.e. loading many images). I don't know of anything you can do to fix it, other than getting a better internet connection.

Well, maybe that's what happened to me. They just stopped loading after a while. And refreshing didn't work very well, either.

Am I understanding you wrong here? You're saying that having every comic in the first post is a a bad thing?

Yes.

Why??

Because it takes AGES to load for people with unstable connections, reasons including: using public Wi-Fi, being in the farthest room from your router Wireless, working on dial-up, simply crappy internet, etc.

How fun would it be to have to go threw the entire thread to find when the author updated so you can read it? It's so much smoother to have all the comics in the first post.

*facepalm*

I'm not saying look for them through the thread. I meant use Links.

http://www.eongamers.com/Objetcs/ZeldaFourSwordsHeroes.jpg

There's a difference between posting the archived comics like this:

Rob and Jack/Vox Populi:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh230/Qpozz/Critic7.png

And posting them like this:
Rob and Jack/Vox Populi:
ZOMG LINK! (http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh230/Qpozz/Critic7.png)

The latter doesn't require your computer to load previously read comics OR to load comics you're not gonna read yet because you're only beginning the archives. It's just more efficient.

----------------------

While that is the subject, allow me to say this:

As an Animation/Digital Art major, I took a class where we were taught a fair bit about web page format. According to statistics, it takes an average Internet user 10 seconds or less to look through a page and then move on. You have 10 seconds or less to catch people's attention. If a page isn't even loaded in 10 seconds, people are more likely to say "screw this" and leave.

Neither webcomics nor forum threads are the exception to this rule. You need to make your thread look attractive and to hook people to it. Fast access to the content is a good way of doing so.

Unless you do the following: set your browser to not loading pictures. How easy this is depends on what browser you use, Opera does it easily for example. Load the page, quote the post which should hold the pictures, copy the urls into your browser and view the comics as if they were seperate links.

Ouch, the Truth, it Hurts.

The beginning was actually me just really wanting to make the "Call to Adventure, Leave a message" joke. The interactive nature of the Comic also made it hard to follow. Since the choices in this case were fairly complex, I tried not to waste comic time showing them, instead skipping to the results of the comics. While for Me, and for the people who were following through the entire discussion thread, this makes sense, it would make somebody just reading the Comics get lost very quickly. Plus, while I love writing, especially for Comics, I found making the comics themselves a strenuous process (Usually involving Inkscape being stupid). Which means that I would find myself trying to squeeze a large amount of Ideas into a six panel comic.
On top of that, I found myself sticking to a "Six panels of the same size" format even when it wasn't a good thing. Which meant that I often had lots of blank space or characters just standing around doing nothing. For fight scenes, this meant alot of action as I tried to fill empty space.
What this also meant is that, quite often, I would provide Background detail by just posting stuff in the thread, rather than making a comic for it. This detail did not end up the archives, once again leading to the difficulty with following.
As for the Characters, I don't like to assign much in the way of character's personalities when I first make them, because I fear I'll end up making them too over the top (If I think of a character and say they are pessimistic, I fear that is all I will end up using the define the character). Sometimes they grow organically, in this case, not as much as I would have liked.
And for the Record, I intended to transfer the Archives to link form (Rather than having the comics there) for some time, I just never got around to it.

Listen, I'll do a repeat review when and if I feel that the comic is different enough from the first time to warrent another review.

However, if I first give a positive review and then decide that it's different enough to be reviewed again, that's usually a bad sign. :smallannoyed:

Oh, I love digital art. As for sprites, I highly respect people who actually draw original characters and are good at it, however, using sprite art in comics doesn't appeal to me, and actually puts me off, even if the story itself is good. And art doesn't usualy put me off comics.

I guess if everybody else is doing it, I might as well sign up Molly and the Waves.

The line is pretty long,:smallsigh: so there will probably be a lot more comics up by the time it's my turn.:smallcool:

And I could definatly use the critisicsm. (Not that what you've already told me isn't helpful.:smallwink:)

But it's obvious that Neorice puts a lot of effort into the comic's original art and has actual spriting talent. It's not like he copy and pasted a bunch of Sonic sprites and saved them in jpeg, font set on comic sans.
I can understand people not liking digital art but... This is the Order of the Stick forum.

Now now, using a bunch of jpeg Sonic sprites with comic sans on a 2 second ms paint background isn't "bad art", it's just a stylistic choice.

Obviously those sprite comics are entirely and undeniably in the same league as my own.

Now hold on, what do you guys have against Comic Sans? :smallfrown:

1. The ubiquity of it. It's everywhere.
2. It's usually the sign of a mediocre comic, as it means the creator generally hasn't put much thought in choosing fonts (and probably a lot of other things too).
3. It's ugly.

Actually, I tend to use comic sans for my Oots comics because it works well. I have tried out different fonts, but Comic Sans just seems to work perfectly with the style.

Yeah most of us use it for convenience... I use it as my Inkscape means i have to highlight the text and go into the font to change it...
I cant use the drop down.

I say go for "indignant". You've been waiting weeks for your review, carefully counting down the comics until you finally get some long awaited feedback, and what happens? Q writes a Tenacious D knockoff, not even bothering to make it scan properly, and pens a quick "you'll be next week". :smallannoyed:

:smalltongue:

I assure you all, unlike everything else I do, this was not to antagonize Lyinginbedmon. But rather, the reason I did a song rip-off rather then the Remember review this week was homework related. See, it's ISU (Independent Study Unit) week at my highschool, which is, for any 83 year old foagies who may or may not be in the audience, a *&^%ing big project in every class that have UN-NEGOTIABLE due dates for some arbitrairy reason, and you can't miss the date you hand it in unless you were killed. And even then you need a doctor's note and to do it the day after.

These make up big chunks of my overall mark, and are serious business, so these came first. I only had one oppertuinity to write a comic this whole week, and it usually takes me an ENTIRE week to write a review. These reviews aren't the kind of thing you do all in one sitting. At least not for me. These are actually quite hard for me.

So, with one sitting, I decided to do a hilarious filler comic instead. An actually review will be next week.

Should I be flattered or concerned?

You should be SHUTTING THE HELL UP! :furious:

I'm...um...kinda hoping you won't be offended by this, Q...
you may never speak of this again.
I just found the "screen snatch" application on my new computer, and went a leeeeetle bit overboard.
By a little, I mean the insane asylum guys are coming to pick me up in a few hours.
And...um...this (http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6888/theqmovie.png) came out.
damn, photobucket made it super-small for some reason. Had to use imageshack.
I think the best thing you can do in this instance is think of it as fanart or something. :smallsigh:
Or person art...cuz it's not really for your comic, I guess...
It's supposed to be a joke, please don't take it as otherwise.
SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES!
So...yeah.

I made the comic when it was technically still yesterday. Don't think I stayed up just to do this. ;)
