So, I'm looking at playing a customized character: race, class, weapons, what have yous, everything about this character is homebrewed except for a single spell: Prismatic Spray. The idea is that he has a spray effect from first level with random effects like Prismatic Spray.

Challenge: a balanced progression of Prismatic Spray themed spells from level 1 to 9. Level 7 is done for you.

Just a thought, but color spray might work at level one. Also, have you considered the Initiate of the Seven Fold Veil later on in your career?

Im away from my home computer but I acutaly listed all the color related spells. from 1-9 i belive 8 and 9 where the only two that didn't have any.. and i think 6.

But some off the top of my head for low levels.

Color spray at first
Rainbow beam at 2nd
theres a 3rd level one...

Also this type of build screems Initiate of the seven fold veil.

Edit:
Tavar Great minds this a like

It should be easy enough to create other Prismatic [foo] spells by retrofitting the Energy [foo] collection of powers in the Psionics section of the SRD.

Prismatic Ray (randomly determined blast of prismatic effect, 1in8 chance of two effects) is in the Spell Compendium IIRC.
Prismatic Spray, Wall and Sphere are in the SRD.

Possible familiar creature: Spectrums (http://hamsterhoard.blogspot.com/2009/09/monster-spectrum.html) (minor prismatic-themed radiance elementals) by Taichara.

General pointer: sow first; then harvest. It's easier for people to help if you give them a more detailed schema to fill in.

Something like:

lvl n: Prismatic missile (as MM, but with a random pris. effect)
lvl n+1: Prismatic Arrow (as acid arrow, -"-)
lvl n+2: Prismatic Burst (fireball AofE, -"-)
lvl n+3: Prismatic Shield (prismatic effect on attacker if caster is hit)
etc.

Not quite what you were looking for but Rainbow Blast is Lvl 3 from the Spell Compendium, and might be thematic enough for you.

5 ice of damage (one of each type except Force) and the dice sizes increase with Caster Level, topping off at 5d12 a Level 10-ish.

But as has been said IotSV is perfect here.

What is the Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil, and what book is it in? What I think will end up happening with this character is wizard progression in spells per day but only Prismatic Spray variants.

Each should have seven effects.
1 fire (ref) easily scaled
2 acid (ref) easily scaled
3 electric (ref) easily scaled
4 poison (fort) Not sure what to do with this one
5 Transmutation (fort) Not enough offensive transmutation spells in PHB
6 Enchanment (Will) Again, with not enough offensive spells
7 Will save No idea where to go with this.

Hope that helps. AS awesome as color spray is, it is not a random effect.

Prismatic Sphere is 9th. Prismatic Wall is 8th. Prismatic Eye is 7th. Prismatic Ray is 5th.

1st level Prismatic Blast:

Evocation

Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: 15 ft.
Area: Cone-shaped burst
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Yes, See text
Spell Resistance: Yes

This spell causes 7 shimmering, intertwined, multicolored beams of light to spray from your hand. Each beam has a different power. Creatures in the area of the spell with 4 HD or less are blinded for 1d4 rounds with a Fort save. Every creature in the area is randomly struck by one or more beams, which have additional effects. All Save DCs have a -2 penalty.

1d8 Color of Beam Effect
1 Red- 1d6 points fire damage (Reflex half)
2 Orange- 2d6 points acid damage (Reflex half)
3 Yellow- 4d6 points electricity damage (Reflex half)

Prismatic Push

Evocation
Level: Wizard/Sorceror 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./ level)
Effect: Ray
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Reflex half, see text
Spell Resistance: Yes

This spell causes 7 shimmering, intertwined, multicolored beams of light to blast from your hand. Each beam has a different power. Creatures in the area of the spell with 4 HD or less are blinded for 1d4 rounds with a Fort save. Every creature in the area is randomly struck by one or more beams, which have additional effects. All Save DCs have a -1 penalty.
In addition, if a subject of up to one size category larger than you fails a Strength check (DC equal to the save DC of this spell), the driving force of the blast pushes it back 5 feet plus another 5 feet for every 3 points of damage it takes. If a wall or other solid object prevents the subject from being pushed back, the subject instead slams into the object and takes an extra 2d6 points of damage from the impact (no save). The movement caused by blast does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

1d8 Color of Beam Effect
1 Red- 1d6 points fire damage (Reflex half)
2 Orange- 2d6 points acid damage (Reflex half)
3 Yellow- 4d6 points electricity damage (Reflex half)

8 Struck by two rays; roll twice more, ignoring any “8” results.

Spell Resistance: Yes

Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Reflex half, see text
Spell Resistance: Yes

This spell causes 7 shimmering, intertwined, multicolored beams of light to burst from your hand as a small ball before exploding in a fantastic light display on the target area. The explosion creates almost no pressure.

I was going to mention this as well, the raiment of Seven Folds, an item collection. It basically grants you immunity to all prismatic effects, and also allows you to do some other stuff.

I think it is in Tome of Magic or something.

What book is it again?

Initiate of the Seven Fold Veil is in the Complete Arcane. Raiment of Seven Folds is in the Magic Item Compendium.

IotSFV is a PrC in Complete Arcane. It has difficult entry requirements, but it has the power to create Prismatic Barriers as an immediate action, one new colour gained at each level.

I would go with...

Prismatic Domain
Domain Power: At the start of the day, roll 1d6: 1 = fire, 2 = cold, 3 = acid, 4 = electricity, 5 = sonic, 6 = choose 1-5. Gain energy resistance to that energy type equal to your caster level for the rest of the day.

1) Color Spray
2) Rainbow Beam (SC)
3) Rainbow Blast (SC) or Prismatic Mist (PHBII)
4) Energy Spheres (SC)
5) Prismatic Ray (SC)
6) Prismatic Aura (CompMage)
7) Prismatic Spray
8) Prismatic Wall
9) Prismatic Sphere
