How would you resolve things like an Awesome Blow against a target protected by Shield Other?
The save DC to avoid being knocked flying is based on the damage dealt; if you hit for 40 damage it's a DC 40 check. One opinion is that since the target only suffers 20 damage, that the target's save should be based on the amount of damage dealt to the target; another perspective is that the total damage is essentially dealt to the target, but then redirected.
From an interpretation P.O.V., shield other doesn't soften the blow, really, it simply magically transfers the tissue damage etc. Given it's lack of protection against overruns or bullrushes, it doesn't protect against momentum changes.
My temptation is to use the damage before dividing by 2, perhaps because I am the DM. Looking for others' opinions.
