Concept shamelessly stolen from this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127383).

Title says it all really. Personally I'm a fan of Eldan's current one. Not sure why though.

I'm also madly in love with Vael's one and I don't care if you mock me :smalltongue:

Serpentine
2009-10-11, 09:44 AM
Mordokai's series! When he's using them :smallannoyed:

Mordokai
2009-10-11, 09:46 AM
*sigh* Would you believe the avatars have caught me more flak than... well, pretty much anything! *flails hand wildly*

And let me return the compliment. Your avatars are just dandy!

Serpentine
2009-10-11, 09:47 AM
Really? Why? :smallconfused:

Mordokai
2009-10-11, 09:52 AM
Why what? The flak? Or your avatars being dandy?

blackfox
2009-10-11, 10:08 AM
I would imagine the flak.
I like all of Sneak's Catman avatars back from the days of the Town.
Death, your Friend the Reaper always has something hilarious.
In general I like when people have something resembling a theme that they keep changing their avatars around to match events, etc.
Please forgive the incoherency, as I just woke up. x.x

EleventhHour

Hm... Favorite Avatar...

Nope! I can't really pick one. Crimmy usually has good ones, though.

Why what? The flak? Or your avatars being dandy? The flak. And thanks

Mordokai
2009-10-11, 10:30 AM
Well, actually, it was more because of the lack of avatar, for some time now. Hopefully, it will get better now that it's back. And you've never forgot to remind me that this is the best one I have :smallwink:  The series, that is.

But sometimes a smartass find that thinks he knows better than me which avatar is better. Mainly happened during my blackguard phase.

And now I think I'm begining to ramble... lets just say there have been some misunderstandings over the whole series over the time

Serpentine
2009-10-11, 10:33 AM
Oh good. I thought it was gonna be "SCANTILY CLAD LADIES OH NOES". Pfft, whatever. I like it when they change over regularly, and I like all of 'em

I liked your masked avatar.

Of course, I like my main Randy avatar, Serpentine's avatar, Mordokai's avatar, Amiria's Vampirella avatar, I'm da Rogue's avatar (sigh), Em Blackleaf's little girl avatar, Shasiaa Toriia's avatar (is that how you spelled it?) and CurlyKitGirl's Agatha avatar, as well as her "frozen by Catdusa" avatar. Also, Sweetrein's avatar with the boobs.

Amongst the DD snarkers, Schlega has the best avatars, though most people wouldn't get the joke.

You know, there's a thread where people are voting for best avatarist (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122316)...

Drop in if you haven't already.

Seeing as that I am one of the only people who don't have an OotS-style avatar, I think I should be nominated for best avatar for uniqueness and style.

That makes perfect sense and shut up.

Mordokai

Oh good. I thought it was gonna be "SCANTILY CLAD LADIES OH NOES". Pfft, whatever. I like it when they change over regularly, and I like all of 'em

Nah, luckily people of the Playground are more sensible than that

Oh yeah, PhoeKun. Her avatars are great and nicely drawn as well. And most of what FoE said.

Serpentine
2009-10-11, 10:52 AM
I'm da Rogue's avatar (sigh)*sigh* :smallsigh: :frown: Still no word. And yeah, she had great avis. Which one of Reina's? Mine? *hopeful-eyes*

Mordokai's series of avatars, no contest. Not just because I made one of them.
I liked his banner more though.

Phase's is pretty cool. Mordokai's is awesome, Vael's is great, all of Fax's have been cool, and I gotta love Roland's.

I mean, have to. I'd rather stay on his good side, thanks very much.

Dr Bath MD at his desk. It just makes me laugh.

Dr. Bath
2009-10-11, 12:13 PM
Yeah I love that one to, Colinmarc really did me proud. Where's he got to anyway...

I've always really like Ink's chained angel avatar. (Even though I've never played Planetscape)

Trog
2009-10-11, 12:17 PM
Ceika's avatars (Llamas in particular) or anything by Ink. Both are tied for my favorite avatarists. Too much good stuff to choose just one single avatar from.

AmberVael

Yeah, so did I, but I had it up forever... well, because it was good. But I needed a change.

Mordokai's series of avatars, no contest. Not just because I made one of them.
I liked his banner more though.

I second this. Mordokai's avatars are definitely the best. Something about how they convey purity and true love. (When he started campaigning for Pervert in the Playground, it ruined the image a bit though.)

Mordokai

And you gotta love Vorpal's current avatar. There's just something... charming about a big, hairy... thing... howling into to the moon

Not to mention his usual... charming smile :smalltongue:

Rutskarn

Charming. That's a word you could use to describe him.

Particularly if you have reservations about losing your gonads in a freak Being Chewed Off accident.

Apparently people love my series of cookie monsters. Seeing remarkably few comments about them.( read: no comments

All credits go to mainly Mr. Saturn and Ceika! They're some of the bestest avatarist out there! Other avatarists in the Cookiemonster series include people such as Dr. Bath and Banjo, also very, very good avatarists.

I have my own hate/snark club? I'm flattered.:smallredface::smallwink::smallbiggrin: :smalltongue:

Though, I'm disappointed. No one's mentioned Quincunx's avatars, which I always find fascinating and amazingly interesting.

Death, your friend the Reaper
2009-10-12, 03:55 AM
Death, your Friend the Reaper always has something hilarious.

I don't know what you are talking about, being the Reaper is serious business!

I like to think that my avatar reflects my somber nature at all time.:smallwink:

As to favourite avatars, I tend to find I enjoy an avatar so much more if it fits a persons name, and as stated before it's great when they change for events and such.

Chris the Pontifex made my first avatar, and I was ever glad as he is an excellent avatarist, although, nowadays everywhere you look there are great avatars all around. If there was a heist of avatars, I wouldn't know who to frame!:smalltongue:

Our friend the Reaper always has great avatars :smalltongue: DD's are cool...I like mine, but that's just cause, y'know, it's my avatar.

Gonna have to go with Phase's avatars being the best, though. I laughed out loud and also went 'awww' a little bit when I saw his current one.

LLamatars were my original faves. I also like Ego's style of avataring quite a bit. And I've recently become a HUUUUGE fan of Miss Nobody's style. =3

Phase is also win, too. Especially his newest. I did not realize it was possible to want to snuggle a celestial body better. *hugs*

Avatars that I like that have posted in this thread so far:

Serpentine (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/member.php?u=14644): Hooray for a sexy snakey lady! ^o^

SMEE (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/member.php?u=9900): I always appreciate an avatar that represents the user's true self.

I've thought about this, off and on, for a few days now. The people with recognizable avatar characters were famous, but the ones I am thinking of as 'favorites' are one-time specials. Harder to pick an overwhelming favorite from a series of equally high quality, I guess. As always, this is just a sampling, apologies to the excellent yet forgotten avatars.

Concealed:
Jacklu's current avatar

Exposed:
Yora's Nudity Week avatar (board standard Red Knight hiding behind the shield)
Ink's 'Hinjo on the Throne of Azure City'

Subverted:
Bisected8 dresses as RabbitHoleLost's Mad Hatter (how do you tie this ¤/#% thing?!)
Serpentine as a Marilith

Brain Bleach Required:
Bluelantern (MikoxBelkar)

Animated:
Space-is-Curved (stars and comets drifting in a dark female silhouette)

Hmmmm, there's no way I'll remember everyone, I'll obviously miss many people. Rutskarn's is good because it's not just well drawn but it's such an identity, it works well. It's not "this person's avatar" it's "Rutskarn's face."

Phase has a great one because of the way he cycles it. That's fun. VT always has great stuff and very consistent as well.

Miss Nobody and Rabbit have made me swoon as much as is possible from illustrations. And I guess after that it just depends on the avatarist, who then runs away with the concept.

I understand that bit! It's the whole "Drawing an object that wraps around itself and still appears natural" part that screws me... I have trouble drawing anything harder than a cube in three dimensions tbh.

My favorites made by people who are not me ((:smalltongue:)), have to be some of Fdl's stuff for Rabbit and Happyturtle, Mordokai-on-a-pogo stick for sheer silliness, and Night Surgeon's one-eyed warrior.

I'm also a fan of Quincunx's avatars. Elegant is definitely a good word for them. Elusive is another good adjective. They seem deceptively simple, given the chromatic minimalism, but there's a careful attention to detail in each of them that affirms the skill of the artist. Also, the decision to omit facial features lends an air of mysteriousness; both alluring and somewhat unsettling in a careful balance.

Runners up:
Phase's current avatar.
Reinholdt's current avatar.

I'm especially proud of a few of my own stuff, especially my more recent ones, like Jazirian here (http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x280/kriskatarn/Jazirian-1.png), or Commie-Mag (http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x280/kriskatarn/CommieMag.png) or Angelturtle (http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x280/kriskatarn/HappyturtleAngel.png).

My favorites made by people who are not me ((:smalltongue:)), have to be some of Fdl's stuff for Rabbit and Happyturtle, Mordokai-on-a-pogo stick for sheer silliness, and Night Surgeon's one-eyed warrior.
Somebody call for silly?

Wow...when you've been around as long as I, the list of favorite avatars is really long. So many of them have been wonderful and hilarious and clever. I really appreciate whenever someone has a set character and that character appears in all their avatars in various costumes/situations. The way Phase changes his is noteworthy and wonderful. I could give a list of approximately 50 playgrounders who's avatars rock like a box of fox socks, so I'm just gonna narrow it down to one who always pushed the limits of what a stick figure could get away with showing.

That's, that's a lot of avvies. Perhaps, if there's enough requests or something; there are definitely quite a few that haven't seen the light of the forums for quite a while now. And some I don't have with all the tags down on a Word doc and Bath's Bucket is over 1 000 images.
But yes, if you stick around ong enough you'll probably see all of them.

You should see the Llamas too; they rock. Try checking out one of the old LLD games from the Structered Games sub - forums. Although I think they've been merged with another by now.

I think my favourite avatars are the ones that are all variations on a theme, so all the Curlys, the Cookiemonsters, the Llamas, the catmuffins, and the Mordokai series. Any I've forgotten?

There are other notable avatars, but if I get into that, it'll be a huge list. And there's something particularly special about having that much variety while still keeping the basic idea the same.
