I read in another thread somewhere "I hope this site doesn't end when the comic does." Those words struck wonder into my heart: What will happen when the comic ends? Will Rich start writing more articles? Will it just turn into a giant forum? Will it accept new D&D based comics? I know random speculation isn't exactly informed conclusions, but... I kind of want to know.

I'd hope Rich will keep on doing comics, because he's very, very good at them. It's not like he'd even need to change the name of the site if he started a new one.

Rich is a storyteller, and for a while, the Order of the Stick has been his primary tale. We've followed these characters for years, but many people forget that Rich has completed other works. A few shifted votes and your Eberron book might be something entirely different. I'm quite sure he has other ideas, maybe other mediums in mind, but I have no doubt that Rich will continue to write.

What good storyteller with only one story?

I do hope he would start another comic.

Though, after reading his various character development workshops, I would rather like him to do some more of those, too. They gave decent depth to my once 1D worlds. Actually, come to think of it, everything published on this site is really high quality. So he should do more of everything, eventually.

The real question is whether Rich closes the forum, mostly because keeping it is already rather expensive.

Didn't he say something which vaguely hinted at doing another comic of some sort, one which possibly has a more adult theme? I remember because he reacted to the criticism of Erfworld using the 'F' word as a one-time thing by suggesting he might someday want to do something more adult here, so letting Erfworld do that helps pave the way.

Of course, that comment may not have been made with anything specific in mind and was strictly a hypothetical. Who knows?

Regardless, as I understand it the Giant is amongst that elite few of Web Comic creators who actually pull in a livable amount of money from their work. Unless the Giant gets fed up with the medium, another Comic is almost inevitable because it's helping to pay his bills.

Yeah, kinda. Here's the quote:

I am not going to be writing the Order of the Stick for the rest of my life. There will come a time when I will move on to another story, and that time will be here in less time than I have been writing OOTS already. I may wish to next tell a story that is not as family-friendly as OOTS. So I would be losing the patronage of [easily-offended people] at that time anyway, and it's just as well to shake a few of them out earlier than later.
So yeah, after OotS finishes the website will still be going. But what will get added to it (or indeed, taken away) is anyone's guess.

I'm pretty sure OotS Quizs will continue much more longer after the strip ends so nothing to worry

Yes, I believe it was tentatively entitled: "The Adorably Indecent Adventures of Mr. Scruffy."

An adult themed comic staring Mr. Scruffy? As long as it doesn't turn into kitty porn.

I hope he doesn't do some stupid "director's commentary" like certain other strips. It's neat at first, but then you realize that it's going to be five or so years before the writer will do a new strip.

I know, I was referring to things like Narbonic's daily commentary that's been going on a few years now, or Queen of Wands, which at least did rapid fire reruns so it only took two years, and she started a new strip in the meantime.

But most times, they just pontificate on their navel for a few years, living off previous fame, instead of moving on to something else. Sort of like how Shatner took forty years to start an acting career that didn't involve Star Trek.

So you're suggesting Rich will start an adult comic starring his own belly button? Do you know something about him that we don't?

I don't understand the criticism in regards to Narbonic considering the artist responsible for that does have a new strip going on (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/skinhorse/series.php). One that is about to celebrate its second birthday, actually.

Shatner has an acting career? Wouldnt that pre-suppose he can actually act?

Hey now, Denny Crane is one of my favorite characters from all of TV.

I do hope the site continues. IMO it is the online forum for cross-game roleplaying discussion, and PbP games. There are some good game-specific forums, of course, but they tend to come and go.

I haven't read Narbonic in years, so no, I was not aware she had started a new strip. I just found the "director's cut" to be rather pointless. Remember it was started in 2006. There's still two more years of it before it reaches the end.

And Raging Gene Ray, you might want to look up what "pontificate" means.

Actually, the Director's Cut of Narbonic started on Jan 1 2007 with Skin Horse starting Dec 31 2007.

I think a gap of 1 year is more than acceptable for "between major projects". And this doesn't even include her other freelance work that she does.

As for the actual Director's Cut, I love the daily commentary and the look behind the scenes it gives. But that's the old Horse for Courses bit, as they say.

PS: William Shatner did have a little thing called T.J. Hooker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._J._Hooker) in between his stints of Star Trek and Boston Legal, you know. :smalltongue:

And even if he didn't have a successful show, it's hardly his fault if he could land a gig in the meantime. Hollywood is a heartless business when it comes to typecasting, unfortunately. :smallfrown:

We still have about 3 books to go, which may well take 5 years. So it is pretty early to be worried about what will happen after after this story is done.

I know what it means, I was just being facetious. And who wouldn't want to read a comic about a webcomic creator's anthropomorphic belly button going on adorably indecent adventures?

Nah, it's "acting" as in "temporary" - something for him to do as he prepares to fade into late-night infomercial obscurity.

Children born ten years from now will remember Shattner as "that old guy in the (insert embarrassingly pointless product here) commercials".

Shatner has worked more or less continuously since 1954; Star Trek is maybe a quarter of his roles. Putting film and guest star roles aside, he had his own series ("For The People") four years before Star Trek, and his own series ("Barbary Coast") six years later; the thing he's best remembered for outside of Star Trek is probably "TJ Hooker", which ran for ninety episodes in the 80s. He was also the host of "Rescue 911." In the nineties he had "Tek War" and was the host of an anthology show. From 2004 to 2008 he was Denny Crane on "Boston Legal," which was probably his most successful show since "TJ Hooker," but that's not really his fault.

I didn't know any of this but "TJ Hooker" until I checked IMDB; it didn't take very long.

And as already noted, Shaenon Garrity has had a new daily comic for two years.

Shatner was the villain in not just one but TWO Columbo episodes. Frankly, that puts everything else he did in the shade.

Rich is planning to take Gary Gygax's position on the now emptied throne of the D&D empire. In about 15 years, Wizards of the Coast will kneel before his superior creative spirit and possibly a few mental powers we aren't sure he does process. Then he'll create awesome things like Magic the Gathering special decks that don't need to be improved by buying a metric ton of booster packs and a version of D&D were the alignment system actually make sense and the grab rules are as simple as anything else.

Before the awesomeness of his alone run marketing campaign, D&D and other products that usually only attract nerds and geeks and some of their close friends will actually meet the interest of 90% of the American population under age 18th, rapidly turning Wizards of the Coast (which he already renamed Giants of the Playground) into the most successful corporation of the 21st century.

Then, and only then shall he start working his way to being President of the United Earth and eventually reach that goal.

THEN, and only THEN shall rocks fall, and everyone die.

One of Shatners Funniest Roles was that of the big giant head on third rock.
