Recommend me a good file server

Hello, I'm looking for a file server to rehost my sig stuff once geocities expires, plus I have a new utility I want to upload. Any tips on good ones? I'd need to be able to hotlink to the file, but if the link goes to an ad filled page first that's still okay.

Hell! for a just a simple fileserver?

I honestly would just pick up a cheap desktop on Craigslist and throw in a Raid card with a few hard drives.
