Apostate Marla of the Wayward Shrine has sent a messenger (an acolyte of Melora one Celeth Everspring) to Beldon requesting a favor.
Being a duly anointed paragon of the wayward goddess Beldon has asked his friends to accompany him outside Winterhaven to the small shrinefarm attended by Marla (its not such a great idea to travel alone these days).

(OOC: Feel free to role-play. Any ooc should be treated like so i.e. italicized and set off from role playing text--prevents creation of a separate thread. All rolls should be handled on Dice Roller Keep thread: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7140334&posted=1#post7140334)

OOC: AS I've kinda thrown Night Monkey under the bus as far as role-playing initiative I'll leave it to him to invent the setting for role-play (tavern, library, (ahem) brothel). Or we can leave it to the DM to etch out a flimsy excuse for all of the PC's to be together.

Bajnik is just returning from a caving expedition. He doesn't even have time to unpack before he receives word that Beldon is calling in his favor. He hurriedly refreshes his supplies and then heads to the indicated meeting location.

(OOC: I don't really have much else to hang any roleplaying on until I see more. As a hook, I'm saying that Bajnik owes Beldon a pretty big favor, and is eager to repay it.)

After another day spent cursing his own luck, Quintus is pleased with the prospect of getting out of town. Certain parties have started to actively pursue what they are due, and a few days away could have the beneficial effect of extending his life by...well, a few days.

Telling no one where he is going, and leaving his room in a fashion that suggests to any intruder: "the person who lives here was here until a few moments ago but has just popped out and could be back any moment," he packs only the bare essentials and heads off to meet Beldon.

"I'll never understand why humans want to live so crowded" Celeth thought to himself, as he passed though the Winterhaven eastern gate. He grabbed his Amulet, and held it firmly in the palm of his hand and let of a barely heard sigh. "Glad to be out in the open again", he murmured to himself.

Surprised to be the first to arrive at the meeting place, he sat himself down on the ground. He had told Beldon that he'd go ahead, but had expected for some of the other party members to be here already. "I wonder what Apostate Marla has in store for us" he wondered as he enjoyed the touch of the sun rays on his face.

OOC: Hey thanks for all of the updated sheets. It really is appreciated. As I am a bit rusty in the DM slot I promise skills and info will improve exponentially.
I can post throughout the day, sporadically, and more regularly in the evening between 8 and 10 EST. So, if it doesn't intrude too much on your lives, I will make 10PM EST the cut-off for reaction to posts for the day. Monday through Friday are great, the weekends not-so-much so don't expect too much exposition on the weekends. If that's okay for you guys we'll keep that as table rules. We can agree to post every day (exhausting), every other day or any combination that works for all. Just give a reply with your intended work input and we'll work out a very tentative and easily modifiable schedule. No pressure no expectations just some structure so that the game moves along well enough.
What that means, and only if everyone agrees, is at 10PM if you haven't posted the auto-character function will be imposed. Either I or a volunteer will take over your character. Obviously, if you have an upcoming conflict give a holler and we can work something out. PM me with any problems or concerns. And, again, thanks a lot for all of the time and patience!

OOC: That should be OK, but be aware that I live in Australia so my timing is a little different to your's. It shouldn't be a problem though - we'll see how we go. Daily posting during the week is good for me, but I won't be able to do much on weekends either.

Are you setting up a OOC thread? Otherwise the game thread will be cluttered with posts like this one.

OOC: I didn't want to (yet another thread to follow, ugh). Lets give it a few rounds of posting and see how it goes. Having met at the appropriate time, give or take a few half-hours. The party rallies together and heads south toward the Wayward Shrine. The day is as bright as one can expect in Winterhaven and the chill of late-morning (quite earlier than most are used to) is beginning to lift. The sun is reaching its height (rather uncomfortably close to the horizon--winter is coming).

Beldon has little information on Marla's summons--his usual amount of knowledge when it comes to the 'game' as he calls it. His stalwart form (as much as can fit in his 4' frame) takes lead down the road--a miserable mix of flagstones and mud typical to Winterhaven.

The party falls into its usual tentative camaraderie as the sun slowly begins to descend from its apex. The farm is but a two hour walk from the town proper.

The wind in your faces is cool and comfortable. The road beneath your feet begins to assume a more level aspect as bits of flagstone peek out through the dirt. You notice footprints leading up and down the dirt road, many of which seem to be made by clawed feet.

"Damn kobolds from the mountains," exclaimed Brak, one of the town's guardsmen. Often drunk and sometimes besotted he is the least reliable of the watch and his affirmation of a kobold incursion seems a bit more realistic now that you see these footprints.

On your guard, you begin to fall into a more militaristic traveling formation.

The battlefield quickly erupts into its comfortable chaos. As steel clangs against steel, shouts echo like haunting refrains, and arcane explosions fill the air with roasted kobold.

Celeth, a rather neutral look on his face, brandishes his mace as light engulfs the kobold and leaves it lying lifeless on the ground.
Quietly murmuring behind the fray Faeloth makes a small gesture and you feel the heat from the flames that harry the burly, shield carrying Kobolds.
Quintus dashes from the initial attack seemingly invisible to your eyes.
Bajnik brandishes his hammers with a grace belying his dwarven heritage and in a blink of an eye another foe falls, limp to the ground.
Baern leaps to Beldon's side and blocks a sword thrust by one of the burly kobolds and swings a devastating blow that sends a loud crash ringing from the intrusive shield of the kobold.

Faeloth moves forward and whispers his arcane phrase as another scorching ball of flame engulfs the burly Kobold engaged with Beldon. The two bigger kobolds shift away from the paladin and bear down on Baern. Further off the road Quintus, seemingly from the ether, tosses daggers at the Kobolds still obscured by the boulders lining the road. One falls as another lets loose a flaming pellet from its sling. Baern, desperately trying to bolster the defense of his diminutive comrade, swings his mighty hammer as the shield bearing Kobold blocks his blow yet again. As the flaming pellet heads dangerously close to Faeloth it bursts into flame, the heat a little too close for comfort.

Beldon, unbothered by the kobolds seeming imperviousnes, brings his sword to bear on a kobold who shrugs it away with his shield. The wiry paladin ducks under the kobolds answering swipe and dashes towards the other kobold.
The sturdy kobolds, thirst whetted by the blood of Baern, seem to focus their attacks on the dwarf. One of the Kobolds beats Baern's defense as the other feints.
Baern, unshaken by the annoying beasts, brings his Axe to bear and is confounded, again by the shields of the kobolds.
Dashing from its cover behind the boulder the taller kobold swings its sling and lets loose at Celeth. A burst of flame adds a painful bonus to the pellet that dashes against the cleric in a showering ball of sparks.
Faeloth dashes further from the melee gaining his bearings: a small gesture and an arcane missle soars past the head of the kobold--angered it yelps in rage.
Quintus dashes behind the boulder and you lose sight of him but hear a pained yelp that sounds very much like a wounded kobold.

Beldon growls as fiercely as a halfling has ever growled and swings his sword at the nearest kobold, desperately the kobold tries to shove its shield between its fleshy bits and the sword. With a pathetic whine the little reptile feels the bite of Beldon's blade. It assumes a defensive pose and trembles slightly as it rejoins battle with its comrade.
Miserable steel, again, sweeps at Baern's defenses and the fighter takes both blades as his mighty axe returns in kind. The dexterous kobolds move quickly to confront Beldon.
Beset by the wily Quintus the wiry kobold lets loose another volley at the rogue missing and scrambling away.
Faeloth continues his movement away from the kobolds launching another bolt of force at the kobold and is comforted by the piercing whine as it falls to the ground.
Groaning, Celeth takes another swing at one of the shield-bearing kobolds only to be parried as its angry yelps mourn the loss of its brethren.
Bajnik takes two swings at the closest kobold, and then falls back a step, preparing to circle around. Miserably his hammers fail to find their mark.

OOC: Thanks to Emlyn for taking over Beldon for this encounter

The road is littered with kobolds and their fleshy bits. The lone remaining skirmisher hobbles away from the front line, desperate for cover or respite, a kobolds mind is its own. It's sling wielding friend has darted into the woods under the pressure from Quintus.
A wicked blade desperately darts at Beldon who holds his ground and strikes at the Kobold, hopping to weaken it. The kobold squeals in pain. Beldon marks the kobold with a divine mark.
Baern feeling a little wonky from the last blow shrugs it off and takes a swing! Miraculously, the kobolds trembling sword knocks the blow away.
Faeloth continues slowly heading towards Quintus and launches another burst of force at the kobold. The kobold is wracked with arcane pain.
Seeing Bajnik take the brunt of the Kobold attacks, Celeth takes action. He closes his eyes and starts to hum. He starts to glow with divine light, that heals both his and his allies wounds and weakens the resolve of their enemies.
Bajnik circles around the kobold to come at him from the other side, both hammers lashing out. The kobold somehow finds the energy to block one of Bajniks hammer but is bludgeoned by the other.
Weakly but still fighting the kobold yells a harried war cry!

OOC: Haven't heard from mackejn since Thursday. Hope you're still out there. DMPC Faeloth.

Frustrated that the kobold still stands, Beldon strikes out with his sword, hoping to weaken it again. He finishes of with another divine mark. The kobold manages to shove his shield in the way and darts away from Beldon. As the kobold moves, Beldon sees a gap in it's defense and takes a swing. THe kobold crumples to the ground.

Over your shoulders you hear a frustrated scream of terror that sounds quite like a kobold in fear for its life. You glimpse Quintus darting into the tree-line in the direction you assume is towards the remaining kobold.

The race of battle begins to slow and you are met with a curmbled road filled with the bloodied bodies of the kobolds. You hear a shout from Quintus as he re-emerges from the tree-line.

"I lost him!" he grunts as he returns to the group.

"The shrine is not far from here!" says Beldon, "We should continue and see if this was but a squad from a larger strike force."

OOC: Emlyn feel free to RP Beldon until the shrine.

The group decided to capitulate to Beldon's obvious concern for the Shrine farm and make their way to the gate of the rather large farm. The gate hangs, broken, on its hinge and you can see that the farm shows evidence of an attack as well. FRom a distance you hear a voice calling:
"Beldon! Thank Avandra! You have arrived too late to aid in the attack but soon enough to help! Marla strides toward your group, she is non-descript in appearance but her presence fills you with a calm that seems quite refreshing after your skirmish.
"Hail and well met Marla! Do you need aid with your wounded?" asks a rather concerned Beldon.
"No, no, we have had a visitor who has aided us...ah, there he is. Harbek!" a stout dwarf turns from ministering a shaken farm-hand and walks towards you.
"He, too, came after the battle but he has put us all back together again," she continues.
"I thank you for coming Beldon. I have need of your assistance and influence in Winterhaven. This is just the latest attack on our farm and I don't think it will be the last. I need you to Lord Padraig about housing a garrison here to protect us until he can do something more...permanent, to these damned kobolds!" explains Marla.
Marla describes the latest attack and gives a fair description of what you have just experienced. A ribald group of kobolds mad with an unusually grand sense of bravado swarmed the farm and just as quickly retreated. She seems to think they come from the south but after the attacks they have gone in vague directions sometimes, splitting into smaller groups, and retreating in opposite direction. There have been three attacks, including this one.

OOC: You can RP as much as you want to find information. There are quite a few members of the farm. THis is the first you have heard of any actual kobold activity besides the ramblings of the gaurdsman Brak who is convinced that he has been the recipient of a few kobold attacks. He has been very vocal about these attacks in the tavern in Winterhaven.
Emlyn, thank you for taking over Beldon. I will RP him for now and you can introduce Harbek.
