I can try and distract them with illusions, get them to waste their spells. What kind of capabilities do you have?

Stealth, mostly. Not enough to actually snipe, unfortunately; I can't quite take the -20 penalty. My buffed AC is good, but they're both casters, so that's no real help. And my offense is less-than-stellar.

I do have one advantage, though, and that's my racial silence ability. If I can cover even one of them in it, that will be a big advantage.

Ro-Gayn - Round 2

ref question:

I am nut sure how I should handle this now. I feel that the wording of the Charm Person (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/charmPerson.htm) spell description is vague enough that charmed individual combatants should not be able to decide exactly how their character behaves. For instance, would I "ordinarily" sit down in the middle of combat? As a combatant, I could make the argument that I would not, but then I am obviously very biased about this right now. I would like to get some guidance from a ref before I take any actions.

High Ref PsiDog

@Dahlia & Ro-Gayn
Dahlia, you may read Bakkan's latest ref question.

Anyway, charming is one of the few instances where Roleplaying is required by RAW. Have fun.

This is not domination, charmed characters still get to act and describe their own actions: at least within the leash of their new friendship.

The responses to and reasonability of requests will very slightly from combatant to combatant. If Ro-Gayn is ever asked to do something 'unreasonably' by his personality he may refuse or compromise so long as a good explanation is either given IC or via ref spoiler. If Dahlia believes his request wasn't that unreasonable he may make charisma checks to force compliance, or if he believes it was a very reasonable request call a high ref to investigate.

I'm sorry, but that's about all I can say on the situation without also giving sample charm tactic tips (refs and spectators are forbidden from giving combat advice on any created, uncalled match)

@ Dahlia & everyone with LoS to Dahlia

The Question was:
"Does that end the charm Person"

The Answerer: By RAW, no. Neither the charmer nor the charmer's allies have attacked or obviously threatened the charmed being, and the spell has no requirement for the caster to be conscious.

Ro-gayn still has a friendly attitude to the unconscious Dahlia.

Play one.

Your hide check is like +16! That's pretty damn viable:smallwink:

Sallera
2009-11-16, 05:52 PM
Just need to be more careful about where you've got cover. If you'd moved over to the K column, for example, you'd have remained hidden. However...

Dormin catches a fiery rock with his face, and Bray takes the victory.

Eurus
2009-11-16, 05:53 PM
Not so much, without Hide in Plain Sight. It basically needs to be either A: High enough to snipe, which is hard at level 1, or B: capable of functioning without cover/concealment, so I can actually approach people.

Ladorak
2009-11-16, 06:04 PM
If you're willing to burn two feats you can get Matrial Stance-Child of Shadows. It gives you concealment provided you move. I should warn you I am also now considering the idea:smallwink:

Sallera
2009-11-16, 06:12 PM
Child of Shadows specifically doesn't let you hide, though.

RandomAction
2009-11-16, 06:12 PM
Yes the stance does confer concealment, but not enough to hide in. This is in the description of the maneuver.

Ninja'd by Sallera.

Ladorak
2009-11-16, 06:14 PM
Ah, so much for the off-the-top-of-my-head idea. I don't know then, I don't think anything in complete scondral does this and it's the logic place to look.

Sallera
2009-11-16, 06:16 PM
*shrug* I doubt it's possible to get HiPS at level 1, but a Darkness spell-like from Lesser Tiefling (they do get that, right?) would give you mobile concealment, and Hidden Talent: Chameleon would get your Hide check high enough to snipe.

Ladorak
2009-11-16, 06:19 PM
I'm away from my books right now but there's a level 2 psionic ability that grants concealment, don't know if you can hide in it tho. If you can it might be worth spending 100gp on a tattoo before each match. Failing that Drow of the Underdark has some pretty tasty Darkness enhancing feats as I recall.

Eurus
2009-11-16, 06:54 PM
Chameleon would be pretty cool. Sniping with Arrow of Dusk might work pretty well.

hustlertwo
2009-11-16, 08:55 PM
Yeah, doesn't Mav have a character with a hide skill high enough that he's managed to snipe before? I thought it was the one he had in the FFA round, 73.

chilepepper
2009-11-16, 11:33 PM
HiPS is doable, and has been done.

Race with Darkvision + Warlock with Darkness invocation + feat Blend into Shadows = HiPS as a swift action

edit: and the Arena limit for Hide is +27, also been done

Eurus
2009-11-17, 12:12 AM
Impressive. I don't really care if it's already been done -- there's very little that hasn't been done. :smallwink: I just want to make a Shadowcaster who can actually do well in the Arena, since they're rather lame at low levels.
