Blight Ghoul

Before you stands a pitiful abomination of a human. His eyes have sunken into his skull and all but his pupils have been covered up by flesh. His mouth looks as though it is sealing shut, as strands of flesh connect the upper and lower lips, preventing the creature from expanding its jaw fully. Its claws are razor sharp, and it looks at you with eyes that have long since lost the soul that was once within them.

The weakest of the creatures created by the dread blight, blight ghouls are extremely numerous, infesting the sewers below Ashtir like rats, popping up from them to grab any poor souls that are within arms reach of a manhole cover at the time.

Blight ghouls, while resembling undead, are in fact still living, breathing creatures. They have just been mutated to such an extreme degree that they have lost all humanity that they might have had, and becoming a clever but relatively unintelligent animal, seeking only to satisfy its most basic desires (to eat, sleep, and reproduce).

The strand of the blight disease that ghouls carry is very subtle, even a direct bite won't convert any but small children and elders into ghouls. The only people that are unfortunate enough to be converted are those that directly die at the hands of a blight ghoul.

Blighted Knight

Before you stands an abomination of the human form, an imposing figure that rises to a full height of 9 feet. It's hulking arms are covered with massive black plates that form 1 foot wide, 4 feet tall and 2 inch deep shields of biological matter that look at though they could stop even the strongest attack. In his left hand - no, making up his left hand - is a massive blade made of bone, as sharp as the edge of a barber's razor. A thick, armor-like carapace plates his skin like some sort of macabre full plate. His eyes stare out from underneath a helmet seemingly made of a flesh and of bone, that has been grafted onto the poor soul's head.

Blight Knight's are the damaging absorbers of the Blight. They have massive shield-like arms and a natural armor plating that blocks most forms of attacks - even ones that would normally penetrate conventional armor.
Creating a Blighted Knight:
"Blighted Knight" is an acquired template that can be applied to any humanoid of Small, Medium or Large size.
Size and Type: This template does not alter the base creature's size, but their type changes to Aberration.
Hit Dice: A blighted knight retains all HP and Base attack Bonus from the base creature, but gains
Initiative: As base creature, -2. Blighted Knights are strong, but quite slow.
Speed: Half of the base creature.
Armor Class: +8 Natural AC. This AC may not be bypassed by normal means, such as Touch attacks, but it also restricts the creature to a maximum Dex bonus to AC of 2.
Special Attacks:
Bone Blade (Ex): A blight knight gains a large sword-like bone growth that deals damage equivalent to a Bastard sword of the knight's size. This weapon is treated as a natural weapon.
Charge (Ex): Once every 1d4 +2 rounds, a blighted knight may put on a massive burst of speed, and make a charge up to 120 feet in a single round, and deals +4 damage if they successfully hit a creature during this charge.
Special Qualities: A blight knight gains DR 5/-.
Blight (Su): Any creature struck by bone blade of a blighted knight must make a DC (10 + 1/2 blight knight's HD + blight knight's Con modifier) Fortitude save, or succumb to a randomly rolled Blight strain. If a creature makes their save, they are immune to the blight for 1d4 rounds.
Abilities: Increase from base creature: Str +4, Con +6, Int -4, Cha -4
Alignment: Change base creature to Neutral Evil
Challenge Rating: As base creature +3

Combat:
A blighted knight will normally try to open up combat by using their Charge ability, and then just hammer away at the enemy, while withstanding attacks using their high AC and DR.

Charge (Ex): Once every 1d4 +2 rounds, a blighted knight can make a charge attack against anyone they have line of sight and line of effect to within 120 feet; difficult terrain does not reduce this speed. Any such attack deals +4 damage on a successful strike.

Blight (Su): Any creature struck by a blight knight's bone blade must make a DC 18 Fortitude save or become infected with a random blight (rolled on the table below). Any creature who makes the save is immune to the blight for 1d4 rounds.

Blight Infection Table:

Creature's infected by the blight roll randomly on the below chart to determine what strain of the disease they acquire. The incubation period is the time before the first signs start. If the incubation period is too long in the case of victims who have died and contracted the disease, the body may be too decomposed to successfully transform. Once the incubation period is finished, the victim takes the amount of Constitution damage indicated on the chart.

The Blight (Su): Any creature who is slain by a blight ghoul comes back to life in 1d4 +1 hours at full hit points, with this template applied to them. Such creatures stand a 60% chance to never being able to be resurrected again, even if the blight ghoul is destroyed. the only way to bring a creature who has been turned into a blight ghoul back from the dead if this happens is by direct divine intervention.

I dislike this feature the most because it treads on the toes of the free-willed spirits. You die but are immediately ressurected with the Blight Ghoul template. Why would good deities allow this to happen? Normally a dead spirit is given the choice to decide if wants to accept a raise dead, ressurection or similar spell that is cast on it. If the spirit chooses not to accept the spell, the spell fails. Thor is going to be might peeved at the one who denies his petitioners their due...

@^: That's what being killed by a wight, vampire, or other undead with Energy Drain does. You don't see any good deities doing anything about it.

This is pretty straightforward, and I like it. Am I correct in assuming it's inspired by the Feral Ghouls from Fallout 3?

Because they are Undead, not coming back as living creatures. They can't be raised or reincarnated either.

That's rather the point of the blight. To step on everyone's toes. I haven't quite written it up as a mechanic yet, but the flavor of it is that it has infected Ashtir (and Ashtir alone) and it virtually incurable. Those who contract the more harsh versions of it are quarantined then killed, because even such things as Wish won't seem to remove the thing.

I didn't get far enough in FO3 to find those, so nope. I have this tendency of booting up a game, and restarting 16 times (making different characters) and then getting bored and going off to do something else. :smalltongue:

Seems to add colour to the blighted existence. I see your point Debihuman but I can get behind a template for a blight that would anger the gods.

Makes a good plot hook.

Good job CS, looking forward to more!
