Fire Emblem: Sword of the Moon Hero: Lady Team (IC)

The Proulx estate is eerily silent. Where the noise of gossiping guards should be, there is only the sound of a haunting gust. Of course, this was to be expected, as many of the troops went to Castival to suppress the Quarathi Riots, but the white stone towers of the proud castle are lonely without the men to guard them. Still, despite this, another day for the princess and her merry band of men begins.


Chapter 1: First Blood, First Victory
As usual, the morning begins with two things: training and a status report on the court. There were quite a few things to report. It looked like the Quarathi Riots were not going to end anytime soon and Randell and his men still had not hunted down the bandits that had been causing damage in the fiefdom. But there was no distressing news quite yet…

OOC: Hmmm…I can’t seem to get the feel that I’m going for. Oh well. Anyway, feel free to roleplay around. I won’t be able to get the map started up today, but go ahead and do anything you want in character.

Léa walked idly down the corridor, allowing herself a brief moment to let her thoughts wander. News concerning the Quarathi Riots had come in early, and she was not thrilled with reporting the news to the court in a little while. No, it had been anything but good - it looked like the good soldiers of Mayfield would be bogged down in Castival for some time. That meant provisions and a whole complexity of organization that was only increasingly hampered by the politics of their troops officially being on foreign soil - even if it was their ally's. Léa knew the politicians amongst the court were unhappy because the rest of the continent was not thrilled with this recent inflammation of old...tensions that came with the continued 'rubbing salt in the wounds' of Mayfield's siding with Castival during the war. Of course while the politicians complained about this, the soldiers grumbled about the pointlessness of it, and the merchants groaned about the treasury. Of course, as a trusted adviser and 'important' (only when they wanted to lay blame, she thought ruefully) strategist to the Throne, Léa had gotten enough barking in the last weeks to last her a lifetime. She rubbed her temples gently and carefully rerolled the scroll at which she had been reading.

She asked aloud.

If Orrick had told himself that he would be studying magic in Mayfield when he was younger, he would not believe himself. Aersland and Mayfield were on shaky terms at the moment due to their relation with Castival. Yet here he was. In his travels, he came through Mayfield, and a local lord, Harlod Prolux, invited him to study. He boasted of quite the library his estate had established over generations. Orrick knew that there wasn't likely much in the way of arcane texts in a Mayfield library, but the man seemed quite kind and Orrick was not arrogant to decline offers of hospitality. Of course, there was also the fair lady Léa.

She was unlike any woman he had ever met. At the magical colleges in Aersland, his female counterparts were driven almost singlemindedly in their studies, unable to spare time for niceties. Orrick had only spoken to Léa a few times, but each encounter he found to be quite pleasant.

As an added bonus, the library surprisingly had a modest collection of tomes, presumably from before Mayfield had lost any ties with Aersland. Not enough to spend years here, but enough for him to feel like he was actually accomplishing his goal of studying.

Léa looked up quickly enough that Orrick thought she may have been just a little startled. A warm, if rueful smile crossed her face though as she turned to him.

She shrugged.

"But I'm afraid I'm just complaining now. That won't do at all! I trust your studies have been well?"

Tessa sung to herself as she wandered down the corridor. Passing by the library, she heard Lea and Orrick greeting each other. Instead of bursting in right away, as she normally did, she decided to wait and see if something interesting would happen.

This thought lasted about three seconds. "Hello everyone!" she said as she burst into the room. "What's the plan for today?"

Léa looked a little sheepish, and not a little weary.

She said in response to Orrick. With Tessa's burst of energy though, Léa's mood seemed to lighten.

It's an old story about the Moon Hero talking about Shamshir. It's quite rare considering that the moon symbolizes a lot of their troubles there.

Léa offered a tiny grimace and pursed her lips.

She finished in a slightly lighter tone of voice.

Just as Lea says this, a soldier comes rushing in.

Soldier: "Mi-Milady! An army's started to attack the neighboring castles! Right now, there's only a few scouts that have managed to get this far, but I fear that there will be more soon!"

Just outside the window, the sound of wardrums echoes through the air...

Battle begins!

Victory Condition: Defeat all enemies.
Skill Point Conditions:
1) No villages can be destroyed
2) No enemies can cross any of the three bridges to Lea's estate.
Defeat Conditions: Lea is defeated or Lea's estate is captured.
Battle Notes: Reinforcements may be coming for both sides.

Notes:
Dark green territory is costs 2 to move on, but grants +10% Dodge and +1 Defense.
Skill Points: By fulfilling all of the Skill Point conditions, you receive a Skill Point, which grants you an additional reward after every mission. Accruing a certain amount of Skill Points grants you certain permissions, such as Secret Shops.

Also, apologies, Jalbaba, but resizing your sprite screwed up how the pixels were portrayed, making your character semi-transparent.
For now, I'll use the Battle Calculator done in Editor form (found here (http://sheet.zoho.com/publish/psgu6782/battle-calculator-moon-hero)). Be forewarned, though, it is slow. If you have problems with this, I can just switch over to a normal enemy display.
Also, I'm aware that it's impossible for you to reach the village on the right immediately before the bandit does (out of 3 characters, 1 is a healer, 1 is a mage, and 1 is a pegasus knight, so this mission isn't going to be easy from the start anyway). You're going to get a few NPC reinforcements as well as the player characters, so don't panic if it things get too hard.
Also, I'll be doing the obligatory boss/recruitable character conversations on the enemy turn.

EDIT: Ah crap, forgot the letters and numbers on the map. For now, just mark your path with arrows and I'll upload them sometime later.

Luke picked the wrong day to visit his family. He had requested leave the day before because his mother was sick. He left yesterday evening and tried to make it back to Léa's Estate before lunch time. He just rode in on his horse when he saw the bandits.

Matthew: "So... this is the Proulx Estate. Alright, for some deity-forsaken reason we have to somehow take this estate with this small advance force. Move out!"

Matthew repressed a sigh as he gazed at the estate from afar. He'd heard tales about the arts, crafts and literature in the vaults... He made a mental note to execute anyone who decided to wreck any artwork they found. A sudden movement down on the estate caught his eye. Matthew froze. Had they been seen? A glint of iron confirmed it, there were armed people coming out of the main castle. At his wit's end, and desperate to be commanding anything other than these imbeciles, Matthew rounds furiously on the men.

Francis trots back towards the estate, whistling, a relaxed expression on his face. That went better than expected. I wonder how everyone else has done in my abscence- His jaw drops as he gets within view of the Proulx Estate.

Geez. I'm gone for one day and they've got bandits knocking at their door. He hefts his axe over his shoulder. Sometimes I wonder how Léa'd survive without me.

'Ello Luke. Nice mornin' for a fight ain't it? He asks sarcastically.

Léa landed on shaky legs after only her second 'flight' in all of her life. It was an exhilarating experience, but she was happy to be on the ground again.

She straightened up again, her eyes focused ahead.

Léa: "I'll see to things here... Please go help Orrick evacuate the other town! ...And if you see any of our soldiers, especially Luke, please tell them to rally the defenses. I'll be along presently after the townspeople are cared for."

With that, Léa Moves to the village gateway and calls out to the civilians to evacuate.

OOC: Kasanip - there is another way. Instead of your slim sword, equip your heal staff. That way you can't kill the bandit and only it and the archer can attack you. Then, once I kill the javelineer, I hop over there and assist you. BTW, can u use the staff on yourself?

I thought about doing the heal staff equip idea...the problem is that actually boosts the accuracy of the bandit, and if both the bandit and the archer hit her, then she won't be able to heal enough HP next round to repeat it - she'd possibly get hit for 15 damage of which she could heal 10...Leaving her at 14 HP for round 3 of the combat and thus hopelessly dead without help then. I don't think Orrick can make it to her by then, unfortunately, which is why I suggested the Tessa move. I don't like the idea of forcing Tessa down to 6 HP....But the problem should be solvable if Lea can persuade Matthew to join next turn, and then Matthew tears into the bandit from behind. At least, that was my logic.)

It looks like, so long as Shades is okay with the strategy (killing that lance wielding soldier), we have our moves ready. Praying that the enemy AI does go for weaker allies first... :smallsmile::smallredface:

Matthew steps forward and hits, as usual. What is NOT usual is when he gets a sword in the gut, despite the girl looking about ready for the morgue after his strike.

After composing himself, a thought strikes Matthew. Unlike the others, these lot had potential. Granted, they were still a bunch of pansies, but perhaps... They might improve with keeping...

Matthew pauses for a moment, realising he's forgotten something.

"Ah, where are my manners... Matthew Palder, travelling poet and blade for hire, at y'service. I must say, that is quite a sword arm you have there. Not bad, for a noble."

He waits expectantly for a response, while murderously eyeing the archer behind the trees.

If Léa heard Tessa's question, she made no response. This was a critical moment that required all of her focus.

Without bothering to wait for a reply, Matthew continues.
Matthew: "Well, your luck's in today, miss, because there is an 'arrangement' I can make. You see, the people I'm currently working with are... Well, to put it bluntly, they're total idiots. I've been waiting to stab them in the back for weeks.
"So, yeah, I'll join you. I'll even do it free of charge, cause I don't need much in the way of quarters or sustenance. So how about it? You probably think I'm an unsavoury murdering swine, but you kind of have to put that aside because I have you pinned against this gate, you're at death's door, and that chap over there is taking another arrow out. Also, I really want to kill him. Your choice."

Léa blinked, a brief wash of confusion crossing her face before she got it hidden away again as her dogged determination reasserted itself. For an arrangement...there wasn't much on her end to have to agree to do.

Matthew manages to catch up to the archer just as he was about to fire.

Matthew: "Hey, kid. Just thought I'd let you know that I'm defecting, because you disrespected me one time too many. Fortunately for you, you don't have much time to dwell on that little fact."
Matthew strikes twice, killing the man where he stands, brings his blade down in a stabbing motion, and pins the man to the floor. Dragging the sword out of the floor and breathing heavily with a slight tone of psychotic giggling, he brings his sword crashing down on the lifeless victim, punctuating every strike with a syllable.
"I... AM... ONLY.. SIXTY.. YEARS. OLD. YOU. DISRESPECTFULCRETIN!"
screams the demented poet, as he smashed the body beyond recognition. Looking up from his kill, he spies some distant figures fighting over to the east. Huh, reinforcements came after all... Well, Leon was always a short sighted fool, and was about to pay the price for that by the looks of it. After surmising that this fight is essentially wrapped up, he picks his way through the undergrowth and trees to meet up with the others.

Léa wipes the sweat from her forehead and shifts, careful to try and not exacerbate her wounds as she takes a Vulnerary, and stumbles back towards the rest of her group.

In the distance, a full army of knights approach, their numbers greater than the previous wave of attackers. However, after the remaining archer retreats, they silently and abruptly leave. All of them are cloaked, but as they leave, Tessa spots the coat of arms on one of the attackers: a Novamian crest...

The group returns to the castle, victorious against the mysterious attackers...

Léa stepped inbetween Matthew and Orrick, supporting a good deal of her weight on her heal staff. Though she was bruised and bloodied, the earnest look in her eyes was piercingly clear as she looked at her friend, the mage.

"I want to say, that I'm grateful to have you as my friends and allies.... We were in a very difficult position, but I am proud of your performance. However, we do not have that much time before our foes are certain to continue. I would like to use that time to rally the guard and stage our defense...yet I am uncertain we can continue to hold our position here until reinforcements come. If all proves ill, I will pray you, Tessa, to take a letter to the King to inform him what has befallen us. I would trust no one else..."

Léa looked paler than usual, but it wasn't fear. She turned to her companions again.

"There is one crucial thing we must know. The identity of our attackers."
