Need help getting a game to work.

Okay. I got Morrowind and the expansion bloodmoon for the computer. However I have been as of yet unable to play them. I keep getting an error every time I try to load them. My method of loading is pressing ALT+F2 selecting the autorun program and running it. This doesn't work however. Does anybody have any idea why? I have Ubuntu 8.10

another weird error is all the windows that open asking you to read the agreement and everything are about ten times the size they should be. Anybody know what's wrong?

The first thing I can think of is that the game was meant for Windows and, as such, won't work on Ubuntu. Have you tried any of the simulators? Because I'm pretty damn sure it won't work at Ubuntu in any case.

You could try using Wine to get it to work. Or otherwise try Cedega (if you have an account) or PLayOnLinux. They all make windows games work on ubuntu.

No, it doesn't works on Linux.

Just because somebody made it run on a simulator doesn't means it runs on Linux... Also doesn't mean you are going to be able to reproduce what the guy did.

My adivice would be for you stop trying to play games on Linux... But I don't think you would listen. So I'll try to help...

1) We need you to say something more than just "I get an error". Otherwise we all will just say this -> " ¬¬' "
2) I'm not sure how Wine works, but is you can get it to call Morrowind via terminal you may be able to give us more details checking the terminal log

EDIT:
Double check your wine version. Some of them just won't run Morrowind.

I would stop but I don't have any other alternative other than paying 60$ I don't have for a used version of the game and a used xbox.

1. if the stupid error had details I'd post it but it doesn't. it's a bunch of random colored lines. nothing else, something at the top that says "error." and an "okay" button I can't press.
2. I don't really know how to check the terminal log. >_>

I installed the latest version of wine for Ubuntu 8.10 but It didn't tell me which version that was.:smallsigh: Also, it won't allow me to configure wine. the computer freezes whenever I attempt to.

Honestly, I think it is likely to be unproductive to ask for detailed technical advice on running software under Wine on a forum that has no connection with the software in question or with wine. You're likely to have better luck on a forum dedicated to either Morrowind or to Wine.

I will note that Ubuntu 8.10 won't have installed the latest wine version by default. You should install the latest version: see here (http://www.winehq.org/download/deb). Possibly the development version.

Edit: Also, you can see what version you have by running Synaptic and searching for wine. The version should appear to the right of the package.
