After watching the Batman: Brave and the Bold episode "Mayhem of The Music Meister!" I got a kind of twisted idea.

Imagine a bard who developed an infectious song which he uses to take over the world.

He sings and makes a perform check against his targets will save and depending on the success he either facinates, makes a suggestion, or dominates them. Higher amounts let him have more control over his victims.

However, he always makes his targets sing along which boosts the range and effectivness of his song. Even if he himself is not present in the area as long as his 'song' is being sung then his victims are under his control and they can recruit more to their side by making the song dominate the others.

If anyone is ever subjected to a suggestion effect from the song, then the first thing they do is start singing along (which boosts the songs power in that area and makes it more likely that they will be charmed or dominated soon afterwards).

So, the result is a sort of crazy mirror of a zombie apocolypse except that the zombies are perfectly alive people who are caught in an enchantment and instead of worrying about getting bitten you need to worry about getting a magical ear worm (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EarWorm) that bends people to its will.

Can the heros track down and stop the bard behind all this? And afterwards, can they track down all the dominated singers and get them out of the songs influence before the musical infection speads further?

Can already pretty much be done by RAW, Epic Perform. Turns the listener into a fanatic.

Sure, but that doesn't have the "chain" effect that is what makes the idea so great.

It sounds like a lot of fun! (If slightly silly.) I'm reminded of Odysseus and the siren's song...
