When it's not bad enough for the Depression thread, and not relevant to the Relationships thread.

I'm trying to find a top to finish off my "Masked Stranger" costume. I need a swashbuckly type of black top with puffy sleeves and ties instead of buttons. I've found a bunch... all either too big or too small :smallsigh: On one eBay shop in particular, there's one that would be perfect, except... according to its sizing, I'm a XXL. The closest to that size is XXXXXL, of all things. There's a second-best one, but its smallest is XXXL. I know it's a plus-size shop, but sheesh...

GRARG!
Time to abandon eBay...

I'm going to whinge because I have a paper due tonight and I haven't even started it yet because yesterday I was feeling totally braindead. Also, I think I may be getting sick. :smallannoyed:

Blah. Apparently we needed a new mirror in the bathroom. And while I was at work, the decision was made that "Hey, Jacklu has a nice mirror in his room! Let's just take that one!" It isn't even about the stupid mirror. It's the principle of the thing. That apparently it is fine to just take my stuff if I'm not around to say no. :smallannoyed:

Grrr...

My brand new MacBook comes with normal Leopard OS but also has a Snow Leopard OS disc. But my magic internet stick only works with normal Leopard. And I decided to install Snow Leopard.

But I didn't know this until I'd done it. And they don't have a patch. And I can't get rid of the internet contract (well I probably could but I'd have to look up many fancy words). Other than it not working I'd be happy to continue with it.

So I'm having to restore factory settings to get rid of Snow Leopard to get my internet back.

Let's see, I think I'll complain about my #1 favorite person to complain about. The person most likely to ruin any given thing in my life. My only roommate. And the worst procrastinator I know. Y'know. Me.

Last night I purchased material to re-build my badly damaged dragon costume (http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d3/Pyrian/Party/2009_FWF/?action=view&current=FWF2009_38.jpg) in a hopefully better looking and more survivable form. Last time I built scales for this thing, I made one-quarter as many, and it took me about three times as long as I have now. I should've started this project in September, dammit.

Argh! Why can I never get round to doing work properly. Ok, I've done my Old Norse translation that's due at 3pm tomorrow, so that's a start, but I've still got an essay on Alfred the Great for tomorrow eveing that's had hardly any work done to it, and I know I'll leave my work now untill tomorrow morning. Hmm, ten hours should be ok maybe... This really can't be the right way to do things in this place I'm sure =s

Ah well, I'll get my next essay on Tuesday and I promise I'll do work on it as soon as I get it.

I hate Facebook's birthday service since I know after 6 years odd of people forgetting my birthday I'm going to get a flood of 'happy bday xxx' without anyone actually knowing it was coming.

I also hate girl talk when two chicks look at each other, do a facial expression and a little inflection to carry across at least 11 different messages in one sentence. Not good for my paranoia.

And... uh... I hate not knowing how to turn down my radiator as it's really warm in my room and having the window open for too long makes me get all guilty.

Oh yeah, and I can't find the local Buddhist Centre despite doing like 4 laps of the place it's meant to be.

I can whinge a lot, huh?

I've been working on an essay about carbon fluxes in boreal peat bogs all day. I've said every damn thing I know to say about it, added a lot of useless filler and it's still 250 words short.

It's too friggin' hot in here as well. My neighbours annoying little dog has been barking all day without pause, and since said neighbour loves doing stuff at his house, he's been using some kind of incredibly loud and shrill grinder all day. Not even the earplugs are helping.

I've spent all weekend inside, alone, hanging on the internet or just doing pretty much nothing. Not that this is different from any other weekend in the last few years, but I still hate it.

Hmm. Now I'm out of ideas on what to whine about. My left foot's been itching all day. :smallwink:

Sheriff of Moddingham: These threads for consolidating all the forum's anger about all and sundry topics in one thread tend to end poorly. Typically, people can't help but rant (or whinge, if you prefer) about inappropriate topics, with excessive profanity, or in some other manner contrary to the Forum Rules. If this thread can be done without those, great, but please do be careful.

They're actually different words. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/whinge) It is pronounced "winnj". They're synonymous, but they're different!

My whinge: I was upset for a bit because I thought my entire family was deluded into thinking a word existed that didn't exist. (A really cool word, too!)

CurlyKitGirl
2009-10-25, 05:30 PM
Actually, like most synonyms there are incredibly subtle inflections in the meaning.
A 'whine' can be whining about anything and can easily be justified or unustified.
A 'whinge' is slightly more childish and generally is something that can't be well justified.

Example:
I'm here to whinge about my essay. It's entirely my fault because I've been procrastinating and reading and allowing myself to be distracted. So while it's a justified whinge it's only justified in that I did it to myself. Therefore it's unjustified as far as outside influences go.

Whining would be about my heavy workload because it's not something I can control or avoid doing an still stay on at my university.

It's a really subtle difference, so when people say "Don't winge" it implies a slightly more childish aspect to the complaint than whining does.[/lesson]

Aside from my essay I'd like to whinge about the weather: IT'S. COLD. And I can't find my gloves. And I'm annoyed in that I want to wear my gloves even though it's barely the end of the month and I've been here just barely three weeks.

Well. I got on the bus with it, and got off without it. Debit cards been cancelled, spoken with bus company, been to the depo, given them both my, and my friend's mobile numbers and will probably file a police report in the morning (it helps dealing with the bank apparently). Been yelled at by parents to, so I've covered all the bases.

Okay, the yelling's really harsh. You can't exactly have your hand in your pocket all the time. With me it'd be vaguely justifiable as I'm ever - so - slightly careless with my wallet, but you don't seem the type to let it into the attention of scurrilous people.

It seems that whenever the majority of my so-called friends have problems, I'm the one to offload onto, but when it's ME needing THEM to talk to about things on my mind, people are either too busy, or are too upset (like tonight). :smallmad:

I suppose I should be flattered that people come to me about their problems, but it'd be nice if they returned the favour for once! Or is that too much to ask? :smallfrown:

400 pages and related 6-page paper that I thought was due in a week is due tomorrow. Fortunately I remembered a couple days ago, just... eck.

I feel really bad for my sister because she's having a really tough time in Chem. And I either don't remember the stuff she's doing or never got that far into chem. Which sucks because I'm used to being able to help her out.

I'm doing successively worse and worse in school because I care less and less about a letter on a piece of paper saying supposedly how well I'm doing. Also I'm a senior in college and seriously considering changing my major. Or maybe just staying in college, pingponging between majors until they kick me out.

Can I also whine about preferring to whine rather than fix whatever I'm whining about? :smallsigh:

I have a course start tomorrow (after a whole year of doing... nearly nothing). It's going to last 6 months, from 8 am to 5 pm. It's going to be hell for me. Upon remarking this to my aunt, I got an "Aww, you poor thing, you're not used to work anymore". Blah! We all know I am SICK and THAT is why it's going to be hell! Seriously, do they still think, despite the diagnosis, that I just fell asleep in class and failed several of them because I WANTED to? That it's much fun to have to take the classes again? Or that it's anywhere near enjoyable to sleep through the classes, do poorly in daily work and then be stressed half to death because I have to get a super-grade in the exam to pass the class? And do so with a mediocre grade despite getting the highest possible grade on the exam? Or that it's a really grand and wonderful thing to sleep the proper amount and still be dropping asleep in class (or if not outright asleep, feeling my brain cloud over in lack of blood and energy) after a few hours of being sitting down quietly? Yes, certainly, it seems I totally enjoy all this and I really should just suck it up and get used to the schedule. Looks like they all still think I love being jobless and whatnot, and it's just a choice of mine to have no energy to do anything, and definitely, it's "all in my mind". :smallannoyed:

I just lost four hundred words of my essay due to a glitch, and to top it off, the article that I need to access to rewrite it and the next point is mysteriously not on the site where it was an hour ago.
And I'd favourited it too, so it's not a case of "I can't remember what the article's called" either.
It's due in tomorrow and now instead of being a near three hundred words short of the total I'm now close to eight hundred words off my minimum total.

And I still need to talk about Great Expectations, and I despised that book.

@HellFireLover - I have a similar issue with a pair of jeans. I make sure I dry them twice in the dryer on high. Though you may also need to employ a belt, or a budget... I am expecting budget though....

Belts and dryers can only do so much.

My whinge (Though this totally breaks Dale Carnegie rule Number 1, Don't Criticize, Condemn or Complain)

I am in school... as most people are here... but my program is accelerated, my type of school is famous for it. I am in class from 9 till 5 most days, and then when I come home I have 3-4 hours of studying to do, on top of full weekend study sessions.

Rarely am I able to organize and motivate myself to study that much, that is just what I know I would have to do to master the material in the way I would like to. So I do what I can. Now all that wouldn't be so bad... but it seems that I hang onto the information for about 2 weeks, and our exams come every 4.

Sitting in review today for the exam we are going to have on Wednesday, I had basically forgotten everything I knew when I presented a mini review to my friends 2 weeks ago.

I am getting 8 hours of sleep a night, I am eating right and exercising, and all sorts of stuff to help retention... but I am beginning to fear it's because I am getting old....

We will see next week when I get my exam results back, I feel like I keep working harder and harder and knowing the material more and more, but I keep passing only 2 out of 3 of my exams. :smallmad:

Thes, out of curiousity, what school are you at? I heard U. Chicago does this for med and frankly I don't exactly want to go to a school that's that accelerated :smallfrown: - I have no life as it is (and UC along with Northwestern are right now my top two choices if I decide to go to the US instead of staying in Canada).

The school is Wayne State University (and no, likely you have never heard of it).

Anyone who is on my Facebook has a good idea what I am going to school for...

I leave it deliberately vague because I do not want people taking any advice I might give as anything other than what some random stranger on the internet said.

Because that is what I am, a random stranger on the internet.

1) Primer, base coat or the real deal?
2) GW paints or other (like Reaper)
3) What kind of water are you using for dilution?

without knowing the answers to the above questions I would say try watering the paint down. GW paints are especially bad at being too thick. Watering down the paint where you have especially hard water can lead to a 'chalky' appearance in the paint, so try using distilled water to thin.

And one of these days I'll allow myself the time to paint again, when I am not so busy wigging out about needing to study. :smalleek:

I'm getting a migrane. This has both pros and cons.

Cons:
- I may have to give up on doing any uni work, because I can't read properly and it may get bad soon.
- I'm likely to start feeling nauseous and headachey very soon.
- I can't see properly.

Pros:
- I may have a legitimate reason to give up on work for today.
- I don't get really bad symptoms. A bit of nausea and a dull headache that lasts several days are the worst.
- I actually find the secondary symptoms quite entertaining. Normally I get a weird bit of numbness, and I always have a sort of blindness, that starts out as an empty space at the corner of my eye and eventually becomes a blotch of TV static in the middle of my vision.

The Sight thing: Serp, I'm slightly weirded out that you find that a pro.
I know myself that my chronic migraines and me having bad eyesight(and not wearing glasses) have been mutual causes.

These days it doesn't really matter that much whether I wear glasses or not, but my eyes get tired pretty easily and can't read from distances(Say, if I were to drive a car, I'd have to wear glasses)

Please check that out with your neurologist and then your optometrist(s?).

I'm feeling pretty lucky that my chronic migraines don't include nausea...

I find it funny that my migraine has been the subject of the most interest in this thread, and that people are so disturbed by the entertainment I derive from visual weirdness :smalltongue: (tip for you folks: you probably wouldn't like hallucinagens :smallwink:)

This is the first migraine I've gotten in... months, at least, probably more like a year or two. I've got glasses, fairly recently had the lenses replaced. Vision's probably not an issue, and they don't happen often nor severely enough to be a big problem. Dr Mum gets them too. She's never mentioned it being serious enough to warrant a trip to a specialist.

Ah, if it's a thing in the family, your mom who has had it longer will probably know better. No no no, I meant, it wasn't because of too-old glasses because they were checked relatively recently, and it's certainly not because of new glasses because this is the first time (that I can remember) since I got said glasses a number of months (or a year?) ago. It's just happens sometimes. I've heard somewhere not long ago that relief from stress (such as going on holidays) can trigger migraines, and a couple of times it's turned up when I'm feeling reasonably relaxed and good.

The colour base coats. I do think my paints a lot, perhaps even a bit too much, but I'm just finding it difficult to get the colour to the same everywhere. There will always be some variations in tint, or brush strokes visible.

And I'm really really starting to dislike gw paints, the paint dries far to fast.
Oh well, gonna have another try tomorrow evening, see if it goes better.
I just painted a base for a spawn instead then.

If you are getting unevenness in tone, you probably are diluting too much. GW paints tend to be very opaque (good for covering mistakes).

If your style prefers a thinner paint, try Reaper or Vallejo.

I haven't been too happy with formula P3 from Privateer, but if I remember correctly I don't think I liked them because they were too translucent.

Astrella
2009-10-27, 04:57 PM
Likely I'm thinning to much, yeah. It's just me overdoing the "thin your paints" thing. (Because the GW paints look so thick.) :smallsigh:
I'm gonna try out some other paints though, not really a fan of the GW ones. (probably the vallejo acrylics or so.)

It is fall, the days are getting darker and getting colder.

And I am feeling slightly lonely. I tell myself this is only natural because I isolate myself from my friends in order to study as much as I need to, and with it getting colder having someone to cuddle with would be good.

I also know it is totally self-inflicted, because I believe a couple of friends may have crushes on me. However, they are friends, and I do not want to jeopardize the friendship I have.

However that doesn't keep my mind for being all :smallsigh: when I am trying to study. And yes, I am sure if I didn't have to study I would be more .
