I give you an urban legend that everyone knows the origin of but nonetheless has become the "villain" of an alternate reality game, the Slender Man (http://marblehornets.wikidot.com/slender-man).

For when you just need that feeling of being watched.

I honesly prefer the thick syrupy flavor of lovecraftian 'otherworld' watchers when it comes to my debilitating paranoia needs. But nevertheless, that is some darn fine inspiration

Oh, I'm a big fan of Slenderman. The original thread where they created him has speculation on what he is and what he does that's great inspiration for other monsters, as well.

Long thread on Media why I'm not that type, heh.

This guy sounds kinda cool. Never heard of him before.

Is he related to the Tall Man (http://www.phantasm.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=50)?

Somewhat.

It seems he mostly just stalks people though.

That, and if certain theories on totheark's identity are correct, occasionally posts videos on YouTube of people he has stalked.

Or maybe TTA is just insane. It's certainly a viable option.

While we're on the subject of inspiration

http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-series

The quality varies, but some of the articles are pure terror. SCP-093, the Red Sea Object is especially good, when read in the order with all the articles at the end.
I have to take over as DM for my group in a few weeks, and I'm thinking of running a shadowrun game with the players starting as SCP Class D Personel nand cribbing heavily from that stuff.

Did he once share a room at college with the Pale Man?

Remember how I said "he's an urban legend everyone knows the origin of"?

It's because he's actually the product of a creepy photoshop of a Something Awful goon who became an even creepier meme.

Oh God, not the SCP series. Those are more addictive reading than TV Tropes.

I think it's safe to assume that Slender Man, Pale Man and Tall Man were all in the same fraternity.

But I saw him today... off in the distance.
I double taked a look back and he wasn't there though. So he moved I guess.

So if he doesn't exist before...he does now.

There seems to be an abundance of 'Man' type creatures out in the world. The Tall Man. The Pale Man. The Slender Man. The Green Man. Is there a Fat Man? Does he by chance eat children or is that the purview of the Pale Man?

Your right Starbuck, I am real...and I'm still watching.

White Ladies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Lady_%28ghost%29)

Roadside Ghosts (http://paranormal.about.com/library/blstory_june02_16.htm)

Both combined. (http://www.tv.com/supernatural/pilot/episode/440369/summary.html)

Don't think of him as something scary. Just think of him as a new friend just waiting to hug you with all of his many, many arms.

Thanks. I try. The avatar is fan art for the game Dwarf Fortress, addressing the best solution for what is called a "catsplosion," which is when the cats in your fortress reproduce so quickly that the entire place becomes clogged with cats and you can't get anything done. I do not actually play Dwarf Fortress as it's extremely addictive and I don't have time, but there's no game that's more amusing to read about. Et c'est un accent grave, je crois.

Also a possible source of inspiration, the Holders. (http://thekingofwolves.webs.com/index.htm#111340481) Also not advisable for children under the age of 18 to read due to some mild explicit writing (from what I read, I didn't read all of it).
