So, what're people's thoughts on this classic board game? My only concern is that Games Workshop is reallllly price gouging on a game made out of plastic and paper. I've heard the "but you get 200+ dollars in pieces!" arguments, but are people really going to use the plastic Terminators in 40k? Are people going to bring any of these pieces into their 40k games? And what about for people who don't already play 40k or any GW stuff, doesn't the high price keep those people out of the picture?

You mean aside from all the other products they make. :smallconfused:

Yes. The Genestealers are fantastic. As for the Terminators, my nemesis, a Blood Angels player bought two sets of Space Hulk just for that reason. One for his board game, and one for 40K. No. He doesn't use the same models. He really bought two sets.

That's pretty much questioning GW's marketing policies in general.

I, for one, think it's a fantastic game. And costs as much as a Battlefoce. My local store has sold all but four copies of the game. So, apparently the pros of the game far outweigh the price. And it's a limited run anyway. It isn't going to be around for much longer.

I question the limited run thing. It seems that GW only stands to make more money by extending the run a little.

Space Hulk is already down from the website. You can't order it online anymore. The only ones available exist in stores now. And once those're gone...

That would assume GW was rational. The only things they do that get ongoing support are the flagship Warhammers. Everything else gets introduced, talked up for about six months, supported for a year, and then relegated to the back corners of the Specialist Games division. It's happened with.. let's see.. Necromunda, Gorkamorka, Battlefleet Gothic, four or so versions of various Epic-scale games, Bloodbowl.. if you're lucky, the new material just moves online and the company quietly goes on occasionally sculpting and casting new models for your particular favorite game. If you're unlucky, it's just gone entirely.

But the actual point is- if those collectable minis games, which fit GW's general business model, didn't warrant continued full support.. what chance does a board game have? GW isn't in that business. They're in the business of selling you models and hopefully the glues, brushes, and paints needed to make them presentable. Space Hulk may be a good PR move among much of the fandom, but it's just a distraction for GW as a whole (mind, I'm pretty sure the 'faces' of GW- the sculptors and rules monkeys and whatnot who attend the tournaments- would love to continue Space Hulk, but they don't actually run the company.)

I would have gotten this if not for the price. The game looks really fun, but I'm not spending (what was it, 90 bucks or something?) on a board game no matter how awesome those terminators look.
