Simply as the title says...

Is there a Pokemon RPG out there that isn't lame.... or is it possible to adapt systems to become a Pokemon RPG.

EDIT:

I have thought more about this... you could combine systems thus:

1) characters follow the mutants and masterminds d20 system (more free form)

2) pokemon follow the DnD system with levels

That way, you could work on improving your character, and pokemon could either improve the creature they are or "evolve" into a new form (class).

Yeah there are, in fact there's a pretty new pokemon RPG that's a remake of a pretty old pokemon RPG, there's 2 versions of them, one is called Heartgold while the other's called Soulsilver.

altough that's probably not what you meant.

There's some homebrewing going on right here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129095). Both games look pretty promising. And to be honest, if they'd work together, they'd be finished a lot faster...

I've also heard good things of using MM to stat the pokemon. The trainers would be statless then, as they usually don't factor in.

You could use the M&M M&M expansion (Mecha and Manga that is).. It has rules about having pets, you could just have magical beasts (like their example, a squirl that shoots lightning).. Taking feats to make some pets more loyal or even fanatic, while others dislike you.. You could use D&D for the pets, no reason to stat the trainers, but some things in D&D just don't go well with pokemon.. I didn't see tactical movement being used much, they just seemed to be wherever you needed them.

The book even has rules for having giant robots and stuff, so you have team Rocket right there.. Remember that any attack, no matter what, if it is a finishing move, will cause an explosion that will shoot them to the sky.

You could also use M&M to stat the pokemons but the trainers would be bards or something else, giving moral bonuses to pokemons..

unless people, like me, order the Pokemon to attack the Trainers instead.:smallamused:

Exactly, plus it opens up even more roleplay and combat scenarios if trainers have their own abilities.

Ignoring trainers, breeders, etc is a bad idea imo.

That's true.

Soul Sorcerer's RPG mentioned in that link I gave will use D20 modern style classes to represent trainers and breeders. He's got some pretty good ideas.
Actually, if we all hopped over there and gave him a hand we might end up with a finished work much faster. Avatar d20, FFd20 and Bleach d20 have already been realized by this forum, let's add one more to that list.

BESM d20 has a class called "Cute Animal Trainer" or something of the sort. Of course, BESM d20 was designed with anime tropes in mind, and not as a direct Pokemon conversion.
