I have to take a survey for a Geometry project that is due on Monday and I managed to leave it to the last minute, please help me!

What is your favorite Chess piece? [King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, Rook, Pawn]

Please put your answer in bold in your post.

Thank you so much guys!

KNIGHT

Seems odd material for a geomoetry project, but there you go all the same.

Queen. Versatile, powerful and scary.

Why? Perhaps they are looking for how we pick favorites by shape? Rook for me

It's good the be the King!

Pawn

Because in Large enough numbers they mean trouble.

We're finding the area of sectors, so I'll be graphing the results and then finding the areas of all the sectors.

My favorite is the Bishop, because, well, Lupy.

Bishop.

although I do like the knight a lot too :smallamused:

I'd say queen, but you always have to be oh so carefull with her...

Knight

Mostly because it has a unique movement pattern and it is easier to get people who don't notice it's placement.

My favorite chess piece? That's easy.

Pawn, people always underestimate the piece that can basically just move in 2 directions.

Kallisti
2009-10-31, 04:15 PM
Hmmm...Rook for me, because Rook is the coolest name of any chess piece, with Knight a (very) close second.

MCerberus

Knight

Although most people prefer the Bishop, the knight is a lot more mobile early in the game getting better position for the later game, when Bishops are important.

thubby

knight

unorthodox movement and isn't blocked by pawns. I'd use them for everything if they weren't so narrow.

chiasaur11
2009-10-31, 04:17 PM
Rook.

Most of the kick of a queen, but less unique, and therefore less of a target.

Bug-Eyed Monster. But since I need to choose a conventional piece,

Knight

as it is so unlike the other pieces.

Great movie, and I can't say I'm against Brooks' version of Chess either :smalltongue:

I think my favorite piece would be the Knight, as they're the most mobile early on.

Pawn, people always underestimate the piece that can basically just move in 2 directions.

Plus, if you get it across the board, you can make it anything you want (except a king).:smallcool:

Yeah that too, it's like the pawn is saying to the other pieces: "Ha, you think you are better than me, watch me run to the other side and become JUST LIKE YOU!"

The Rook.

Because the Queen cheats on the King with him, as the King is useless.

Pawn

I'll never forget the moment where I literally lost a chess tournament on behalf of the entire school because of one little pawn. And it wasn't even my opponent's pawn. :smallfrown:

My favorite is the Bishop. Late game it becomes one of your most useful pieces (Knight is a close second because of how useful it is to get yourself into a position to actually use your Bishops).

Pawns and bishops. Especially bishops. They move diagonally and are plain neat.

I lost once because someone got a pawn across and turned it into a Knight. I think I gave up shortly after that, since I was never good to begin with.

ROOK

It looks like a castle and can move infinite amount of spaces forward, back, or sideways.

The Rook will charge across the board and smack your pawn in the face with a folding chair the moment it starts to become a queen.

Emperor Ing
2009-10-31, 08:02 PM
hmm, rooks shut down entire sections of the board, pawns are ridiculously nasty late game...

I'm gonna go with Rook, due to them being the gods of territorial control.

There is no piece that can compare with the deadly grace and fatal beauty of the Queen; admire her shapely design as she looms across the board, changing the very nature of the board by her mere presence.

I always beat people who favor their queen. It means I take all there other pieces while they try to protect it. In fact, I quite hate the queen. I get rid of mine practically as soon as I can. I make big risks to lure the opposing queen out so I can nab it.

Nomrom
2009-10-31, 11:27 PM
Well, I'm not very good at chess so my favorite is the queen. It's a bishop and a rook all in one. Of course I always end up losing it, because everyone I play with is good, and I'm not. I always make dumb mistakes.

Kallisto
2009-11-01, 09:24 AM
I'll cast my vote for the Rook.

For some reason, it makes me smile that in French, the Bishop's name is "The Jester". :smallamused:

Winter_Wolf
2009-11-01, 10:24 AM
Rook for me.

Because if I lose both of my rooks I generally am guaranteed to lose. I could lose both knights, both bishops, and the queen, and still win with two rooks, but lose both rooks and I just don't make a comeback. :smallfrown: I suck at chess.

Oh, and I hate the bishop pieces, because apparently I can't do strategy with pieces that move diagonally (and they always get in the way of my pieces without actually doing anything useful).:smallannoyed: Again, I suck at chess.
