If you click on the latest Order of the Stick, (or any for that matter) and you type into the url, http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0400.html, you will see an interesting message.

Hmm, maybe it isn't working for you guys. Don't click on the link, copy-paste it into your browser.

Nothing. Perhaps a screen shot would help?

That's it.
Accidentally put a "0".
Whoops.

EDIT: @Xavion No it is not spam, I just wanted to point out that
"hmmmm oots400html" will appear if you type that into your browser. Jeez. :smallannoyed:

the fist link gives me comic nr 400, the second link gives me a 404 error...... soooo what is the point of all this? neither are really interesting or funny

It's just the default that gets shown if you request a site that does not exist

for example: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots_Iamanelephant.html or http://www.giantitp.com/comics/darthvader.html

If you get a plain 404, you probably have java script or so disabled.

that's... most interesting.

Btw, it makes no difference if you type stuff into your browser or if you click a link. Technically, it's the same (unless you label the click-link differently) as evil haxxors do, example:

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0400.html (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots400.html)

Find out why that is broken when it SHOULD work and link correctly to comic 400. ;)

AtopTheMountain

Because the link goes to ".../oots400" but is labled "...oots0400" making the reader think that that is where it goes to. This whole thing is really rather boring.

This is a default if you put in any number or phrase that isn't linked to a posted comic. Thus, if you put in http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0688.html, you won't see the next comic, you'll just see "hmmmm oots0688.html". It is an interesting bit of site formatting, though.

Hehe, you are late. ;)

And of course is this boring. I liked the old picture of Belkar better...

Sorry Link, I can't give credit. Come back when you're a little http://i361.photobucket.com/albums/oo51/Mani_Reborn/Morshu.jpg (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/richer.html). :smalltongue:

Doesn't work in Google Chrome :(

You simply receive a "sorry, this link appears to be a broken" message.

There is no "interesting" message; it's just the default page you go to when you type in a non-existent URL.

You're missing nothing. Navigating to "http://www.giantitp.com/comics/<whatever>" will return "hmmmm <whatever>". Just the single line of text.

I don't believe it is. I haven't seen this on any other site, usually it's just a 404 message. And GiantitP has it's own 404 message as well; http://www.giantitp.com/404.html . The "hmmmm " message appears only when looking for missing files in the /comics/ directory.

Is it the pic of belkar yelling at you? I remember that, but I can't get the links to function for me now for some reason. Turned on active scripting in my security settings and everything.

If the site checks the Refered: header, not true. Sites can detect whether you clicked to get to something or just typed it in (although they can be fooled, some browsers have an option to not send Refered, making it look like you typed the URL in whenever you visit a page).

And... where does that make a practical difference? Usually, it does not. In the case of gianttip.com, it seems not to make one. As is true for way over 95% (even 99%?) of all sites you could ever want to call.

Wow. It's like you went so far ahead in time that you looped back around to the late 300s.

Personally, I would've left a message quibbling about the reader trying to skip ahead to the "last page" of OotS, but that's just me.

No. That seemed to disappear when the site got updated. :smallfrown:

Heh. That reminds me of how the guys at Rooster Teeth would create pages for the comment sections of future videos. They never posted the URLs, but it was easy enough to guess them anyways. The pages ended up with a ton of "First post!" comments before the videos even went up. :smalltongue:

What action originally rerouted you to this URL?

Did they change the formatting a while ago and before they did any attempt to input a comic number that hadn't been created yet send you to http://www.giantitp.com/Images/BelkarWarning.gif?

Is this why the site logo is different?

Yes. It was a nice touch, but ironically meant that Teh Stupids were getting rewarded with a bonus "strip" that most people wouldn't come across. At least, until it stopped being a secret any more.

There is no logo on that page, it's just a .gif. :smallconfused:

If you are referring to the favicon (http://www.giantitp.com/favicon.ico), then that's probably because your browser is scaling the image itself down, rather than using the site's specified favicon.
