View Full Version : Interesting Unbodied Build

So, I'm considering an unbodied as one of the (many) reserve characters I have in the post apocalyptic Eberron 3.5 game I'm currently in.

And I'm debating interesting things to do with it.

I've been told that if I take a level of Psion (Not-Telepath) after my racial HD and ECL, I can then switch my Unbodied manifesting levels to being that specialisation rather than Telepath.

Ghost Touch for +10% and/or the Ghostly Grasp feat means I can have equipment (though I'm not sure how much equipment a Strength – creature can carry). I'm currently debating between a Psychoactive Skin of Ectoplasmic Armour and the level 1 power that gives you +4 armour bonus for hour/level.

Vauge concepts I've had so far are the Flamin' Brain (1 level Kineticist, levels of Pyrokineticist), and something based on talking people around with high diplomacy using Telepath powers. Thrallherd would be nice, but I believe the Leadership feat isn't being allowed, and Thrallherd might be disallowed on the same. Psibond agent is an interesting one, but I don't have the Sneak attack, and I'm not that impressed by the actual usefulness of its granted abilities.

I'd like something reasonably efficient, but maximum optimising isn't needed – this is a fairly laid back group, and I don't want to be too far ahead of the power curve the other players on.

So, can anyone suggest anything interesting I could do? Looking at level 8-12 starting.

Depends somewhat.

If you're not using LA buyoff, an Uncarnate (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/prestigeClasses/psionUncarnate.htm) is a better choice - for several reasons.
1) You get to take your equipment with you.
2) You get actual class features.
3) You get other nifties to go with it.
4) You've got actual hit dice, rather than empty LA, so your Con mod works better (also saves and skills)

However, there's limits, in that an Uncarnate needs to be 15th level or better to get the full set. If you're starting at 8th-12th, the Unbodied isn't bad.

As to equipment, if you pick up the Book of Exalted Deeds you can take the Vow of Poverty and stop worrying about it.

We may or may not be, I'd have to check

And I am starting at 8th-12th, and I like the idea of an unbodied rather a lot more than an Uncarnate.

Except the character isn't an ascetic. I don't know how I'm going to play him, but not like that. And I don't think that I'd get that much from it, especially if it used my HD rather than ECL for the effects. So, no.

However, I can use either normal equipment (with the Ghostly Grasp feat), or pay an extra 10% for any non weapon/armour item to be ghost touch.
