Pika...

Once again there is a character concept that has been on my mind for a good while, and I am seeking help here. (Love you gals/guys )
For all those familiar with Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_Hunter_D:_Bloodlust), the sequel to the original movie, Grove was the sickly brother who I do not believe ever left the cart/bed they traveled on. However, while he could not physically fight he took some kind of substance which let him in closest D&D terms either become a ghost, or astral project I believe.
Pictures showcasing him and his ability:

I doubt it's possible using D&D rules, but in case any of you know a way/build to build/pay homage to him as closely as possible to the original media please let me know. It would be much appreciated. Having such a substance would be nice, but I imagine not 100% needed (anyone know what it was called in the movie?).
Also, some more help needed, but spoilered for those who have not seen the movie:
Those who have seen the movie know his eventual fate. I would like this PC to mimic/pay homage to that as well. Hence perhaps there is a way for the projection process (or the substance if there is one in D&D?) to have a negative, and possibly cumulative, effect(s)?

May he rest in peace. :smallfrown:
