I'm looking into writing a series of short stories about an idea I have with an Eldar Scout as the main protagonist, but my knowledge of this enigmatic race is not, it has to be said, extensive. As such, I would appreciate it if you guys could point me in the right direction for any source material that might be useful. I know this might be more appropriate to Arts and Crafts, but I figure that more 40k players peruse Gaming and it's 40k players I want to talk to!

I'm looking for pretty much anything that will give me fluff or ideas about the Eldar, from Craftworlds to Exodites to Harlequins, short or long stories, excerpts and rules (from any edition).

Any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers,

JP

Two things.

Eldars think very differently from humans, to the point where relating to them may be impossible, so writing from their point of view might be incredibly difficult. For example, most of their dialogue is actually about things as subtle as tilting their head, blinking and moving their fingers around without actually speaking. Also, they feel emotions much more deeply than humans and I'm not sure how one can transcribe this. (Keep in mind I'm not an actual writer, so these things may actually be entirely possible and relatively easy to write.)

I believe you need not start a new thread and can just ask around in the fluff thread. I may be wrong though.

Nevertheless, should you manage to write such a story, I'd be happy to read it.

Here (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Eldar), Here (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Eldar_Mythology), Here (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Exodites) and Here (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Harlequins).

This (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Path), and this (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Ranger) might be particularly helpful.

I really hope that I needn't have done that, since I really hope you've already been through all those. And you're coming to us now because you're stuck for ideas...

I extremely encourage you to find the 2nd Edition Codex Eldar.
Failing that, there's the 3rd Edition Codex: Eldar and Codex: Craftworld Eldar. Though 3rd Ed Codecies aren't that great if you're looking for fluff.

I hope the Codecies were obvious... :smallsigh:

Although, keep in mind that Eldar aren't human and have all sorts of crap going on that humans (i.e; Us, the readers) would find it difficult to understand, much less care about. There's a reason the Black Library doesn't tackle Eldar characters much. :smallwink:
But, I wish you luck.

It also may be helpful to find some Dark Eldar stuff as well. A prime motivation for most Eldar is to not be like Dark Eldar. So, you might need to know some of that too.
