Enchanter

This class is intended to fill another of the niches that Beguiler, Warmage, and Dread Necromancer are after – to provide a themed caster with strong spells based on good flavor, that is not the kind of terribly unbalanced monster that core casters are. This is my first attempt at a full homebrew class, and this is what I have so far. I'm not sure if the spell list is fair (I'm balancing them against Beguiler, Warmage, and Dread Necro), and I'm not sure what abilities to give them. PEACH

Enchanters are arcane casters who feel a greater tie to the natural world, the magic of benevolent fey, and the tranquility of groves and ponds. They must be cunning, skilled, and have glib tongues to travel between civilization and the wilds safely.

Make sure you include pattern and phantasm spells, and I'd also include either figment or glamour spells, because illusions techniquely mess with peoples minds to make them percieve things they should not.

Also, what nique does summon nature's ally fill? To me it seems more at home in the summoner class (but even then it is better as summon monster).

Nature's Ally: I was trying to make it nature themed, but do you think that adds too much versatility/power to the class?

Well, if you want class abilities, look at fey things. DR/cold iron, DDoor as a SLA, musical abilities or ones to make you look like another (A Thousand Faces, basically).

Since they do a lot of wilderness things, maybe a 1/2 progression Animal Companion (like the Ranger), or a familiar, or similar. Survival abilities to get along in the wild.

Ideally, I'd give them something that allows them to use enchantments on things that would be otherwise immune to mind-affecting effects. You can also give them small bonuses on the Charisma checks involved in the Planar Binding series of spells.

I think we have the winner of the fist suggestion that makes them better.

And the reason I asked is because I did not know they were nature based.

I'm interested in this, but I do have one question... I might be a little behind the times, but why nature-themed? Enchantments are mind-affecting spells, and for some reason that doesn't scream "nature" to me..

Despite me not getting it, it still looks interesting and I'd love to try it sometime.

I was inspired by the Merlin or wizard of the woodlands sort of idea, like Fey influenced, but I think maybe I should play that down to not step on Druid's toes?

Updated: thoughts?
