The air surrounding you fairly hums with the residue of magic, an aftereffect of the spell that brought you to this place. A quick glance reveals that you are in a cramped, rectangular room, devoid of any life save for yourself. The sound of dripping water can be heard faintly, and the stone walls are slick with moisture. In complete defiance of logic, a torch is already lit, resting in a bracket by the sole door visible in the room.

There is a door at A-1, west side.

Punt the warforged clanks to his feet, and reassesses the room from a standing position.

<"Dropback - Verifying: Regular flow of incoming stimulus was interrupted."> come the thoughts of the creature.

<"Confirmed."> the thoughts of the psicrystal flow back to him.

<"Commencing systems check"> the warforged sends to his only companion. He starts with a visual inspection of his self, and finally, attempts to reach a state of mental clarity.

<"All systems A-ok. The malfunction appears to have been temporary. Situation unknown. Proceeding to investigate primary portal in evidence">

With that, the warforged clanks over to the door and opens it slightly, so as to get a glimpse into the corridor beyond.

Apologies for the wait. I forgot to subscribe to this thread.

As you lay your hand on the door, several hundred lines of crackling blue energy appear, surrounding the door and much of the adjacent wall in a spiderweb pattern. The energy leaps from the door to your hand, giving you quite a shock.

The previously hidden copper wires are now visible as thin black marks on the door, which they have charred quite thoroughly.

You take 1 point of electric damage.

<"Warning! Area appears to be trapped. Switching to hostile mode,">

The warforged's eyes glow a little brighter, and a beam of red energy emit's from those fiercely glowing orbs. That beam shapes itself into a shortsword, which the mechanical creature plucks from the air with his right hand.

(Activating mindblade).

The warforged examines the door: what is it made of?

The door is an ordinary metal door. It appears to slide into the wall rather than opening in or out.

Eyeing the wires a little more closely, blade in hand ready for any surprises, and concluding that the trap has spent itself, the warforged slides open the door.

The door slides open, snapping the wires and revealing an unlit hallway running to the north and south. It's impossible to tell how far without a light source, though.

<"Immediate situation: Zero threat evident,"> The warforged thinks to his psicrystal.

The metal and wood monster closes the door, and returns to the torch, picking it up.

<"Query: Statistical evidence shows that constructors of traps also favor hidden passages, yes?"> The warforged murmurs internally.

<"Response: Past evidence strongly suggests a correllation,"> Dropback replies.

The warforged scans the entire room where he woke up for secret passages, taking his time to do so, sword in one hand, torch in the other. (Take 20 for a total of 23).

What's your search mod, and Do you have trapfinding?

What's your search mod, and Do you have trapfinding?

No trapfinding. Besides, he's not looking for traps.

I'm aware of that.

You find nothing out of the ordinary.

Punt walks over to the door, opens it, and sticks the torch out into the darkness, waiting for a good six or so seconds before following it.

(Sorry for lack of flavor - second time trying to post this)

A Grue runs by and eats the torch.

Nothing happens. Following the torch into the hall reveals that it runs to the north ten feet before turning east, and to the south forty feet before turning east.

The warforged, confronted with a decision, starts running through a mental list of supposed truisms when discussing underground cave systems, sometimes known as dungeons.

<"Known facts about underground cave systems.
1. Most worked cave systems began life as natural cave systems, so much that holds true for natural caverns can be said to hold true for worked caverns as well."> The warforged thought to himself.

<"Accepted as posited,"> The other fragment of his mind replied.

<"2. Most natural cave systems were created by the passage of water. Since most mountain ranges run north-south, and water runs down hill, this means that an east-west passage has a higher likelihood of leading to an exit.">

<"Both passages eventually go east. it follows that they might then, both lead to the exit.">

<"Neither seems to run uphill, and there is no running water in evidence. All other considerations aside, right is always right, and therefore cannot be wrong,">

<"Concur">

Having labored his way through the decision making process, The warforged clanks down the passage to the north before turning east into the cross-passage.

You trip over a tripwire five feet north of the door you just left. The sound of stone grinding on stone can be heard for perhaps a minute before fading away.

Punt continues northward, probing the ground ahead with his mindblade.

At the bend, you see that the hall continues to the east for thirty feet before turning south. Ten feet from the bend you're at, there is a short (five foot) hall on the north side, ending in a door.
