Except that, you see, the world to the tarrasque is a smorgasboard and it has a near limitless appetite. It isn't going to ask for the bill after just one helping.

10) A mid-to-high level bard has taken the mayor hostage until he hears a really good story. If you don't have any, he has ways to force you to go experience one.

11) The dwarves in the nearby mountains have mined this area for ages, but the new shaft they dug appears to be on fire for no discernible reason. What could be behind it? You're expendable enough to go find out.

12) The clerics of Nerull have always kept skeletons around, and they have the piles of legal paperwork necessary to keep the city guard off their backs for it (yes, these are fully licensed undead.) However, one by one, they've been escaping from the church's control... and become very affectionate. (I mean that literally. They want hugs. Not grapples. Actual hugs.)

My group once had a starting adventure sort of like this. I decided that, logically, we were the best/most competent group that the mayor could afford, since his daughter's life was on the line, so, logically, if we kidnapped her in turn then anyone he sent against us would be weaker. The rest of the group wouldn't go for it, though.

After the Creation, the cruel god Moloch rebelled
against the authority of Marduk the Creator.
Moloch stole from Marduk the most powerful of all
the artifacts of the gods, the Amulet of Yendor,
and he hid it in the dark cavities of Gehennom, the
Under World, where he now lurks, and bides his time.

Your god Shan Lai Ching seeks to possess the Amulet, and with it
to gain deserved ascendance over the other gods.

You, a newly trained Aspirant, have been heralded
from birth as the instrument of Shan Lai Ching. You are destined
to recover the Amulet for your deity, or die in the
attempt. Your hour of destiny has come. For the sake

22: An epidemic of sorts is gripping the city! Random, seemingly completely unconnected people are simply going comatose, while babbling random phrases about how wonderful the prestidigation spell is. "You can make nice food!", "I'll never need to tidy again!", is all they can seem to say, even if they have no access to the spell, or have never heard of it. And if the mystery is not solved, the entire town could be reduced to gibbering over a cantrip.

26. A robed figure has taken up an eerie residence in the towns graveyard. When the man begins making predictions to those who would listen, they are rightfully skeptical. That is until every one of them proved true, unerringly. Now he has predicted the town's demise, and the death of everyone who still resides after one weeks time, though he would not say how. Four days have passed since then, and those who choose to remain have offered everything they have as a reward to anyone who can save their homes.

27. One by one, all the children in the town have been vanishing. One of the PC's relatives live here, and beg for their help after their daughter disappears.

28. A band of refugees show up on the footsteps of city, displaced by a warlord who is ravaging the countryside. Not all is as it seems however, as no sign of any army can be seen in the distance, and the name of the warlord they speak of with fear is one from the annuls of history, defeated over a thousand years ago...

29. [Ebberon] An train on the lightning rail has simply vanished, and along with it every passenger, including Jayla Tagor, the speaker of the silver flame. Thrane is demanding answers and threatens war with Breeland, while the Breelish authorities have found nothing, not even wreckage. Can the PC's get to the bottom of this mystery before war breaks out?

30. What appears to be a city appears over night, floating above the capital city. Dark shapes can be seen circling it in the sky, but anyone who draws close simply disappears. The PC's are known to the city's lord, and are tasked with getting to the root of the problem, with the lord's only lead: A small red crystal, etched with a strange and elaborate seal.

35. Deep in the desert and away from civilized society, a tribe of all-female nomads has developed their own way of life. Each Summer, on the longest and hottest day, they create great bonfires under the burning sun, dancing and drumming until the night. Then they inhale the fumes of sacred plants to 'dream the dreams the creator sees fit to send them.' The following morning, they gather and share their visions with each other and the tribal shaman, to assemble a prophecy that guides the tribe in the coming year. Each member of the tribe dreams of the same thing - a great monster coming with the setting of the next sun, intent on slaughtering them all.

36. A local casino notorious for running it's patrons into debt often accepts priceless relics and family heirlooms as payment. A noble loses his sword to these crooked games, and requests the party break into the establishment's vault to retrieve it for him.
Each night, the first gold coin won by the House is added to the bar tabletop with sovereign glue or the campaign equivalent. Thus, a team of thieves who could make off with the ENTIRE bar would be...very rich indeed.

That's exactly what the last group was thinking. And it's exactly what the next group will be thinking...

This is all part of the plan, the daughter is secretly half-deity, and nobody is actually afraid of her safety, it's all just a plan to kill off adventurers.

This is all part of another plan, as a group of adventurers killed the mayors son to make him hate adventurers, and they've gone into hiding, and they take on new identities, and their services will be more valuable with all the other adventurers dead.

This is all part of a plan by someone else as well.

38: A village is being harassed by a pack of Earth Elementals, and they are causing quite a bit of collateral damage. Most see them as threats to be eliminated, except for one dying old man who tells stories of the earth rising up to protect children in danger...

39: A summoning experiment involving the Far Realm goes disasterously wrong in a local Arcane University. Instead of summoning the creature desired to the location desired, one of the nearby libraries has instead suddenlt filled with hundreds of fragile polyps, each ready to burst in a spray of acid at the lightest blow...

40: The challenge is simple: Be the last one, at the end of the day, to be holding the Mundane Orb. A cursed item, the Mundane Orb imposes a -6 Penalty on saves against spells, and forces a DC 17 Concentration check to cast your own. The Tarrasque has awakened, it is up to the party to lure it to another town to eat.

My DM had planned out a mid level game, but his players DEMANDED to roll low level characters, so he wrote in an interesting event.

He had them following a road where they noticed an army marching in the same direction. One of the soldiers rode up on a horse and BASICALLY conscripted them. They had chances to escape, but this guy was one of those, you **** with me and I'll lop your head off faster than you can say Seusacial. So they kept following in line, eventually, the come to where they see the battle. There's a mountain of a monster far off in the distance, they're not sure what it is, they just know that it's evil. They're lead up to these catapults and ordered to start loading and firing them, at which point they do. A few minutes pass and then they see these 6 lone riders come up behind them. As they approach they dismount and walk past the group. The six charge down into the battle and, after some truely fasinating spells, the creature explodes and falls to the ground. He looks at them and say "congratulations, you just aided in killing a Tarrasque, you're level 13.

The only common clue is the appearance of a strange merchant selling high quality (but non-magical) cloaks. The merchant actually teamed up with cloakers, and is making a pretty penny off of this and covering his tracks by paying a local band of rogues to take the blame.

44. A well-known dungeon designed by a gold dragon to challenge the ingenuity of new adventurers has been overran and retrofitted by a band of kobolds and their half-dragon leader who recently adopted the human name of "Tucker."

It approaches the party, asking them to seek out its children, and capture them alive with the intent of returning them to their father, so that he might convert them to the side of good. Sharathax's children are quite evil, and will not go cooperatively. Unless you just happen to be a party of young ,busty amazon warriors, in which case the lack of clothing could be a boon when trying to find NPC aid.

Unless they capture you and sentence you to death by snu-snu.

Okay, things are not as bad as they seem.

80. You've been invited to a feast, with live entertainment, given by the local Lawful Evil government in celebration of your deeds. When the bard begins to sing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ZyuULy9zs), the audience goes silent--shock? rage? exposure?--and one of the local luminaries topples over, dead, with a wound which had to have been delivered through the wood of her high-backed chair. It's civil war. Whose side are you on?

81. A hack-and-slasher you once knew (one of your group's former characters?) has been cursed never to slay a sentient being. You find him practicing the ways of his class, convinced that if he could just learn enough (gain a level), then the curse would be dispelled and he could resume his adventuring career.

Or is there some nefarious plot by evil undersea creatures to disable the seaside human towns?

Before he popped his clogs, he invited the entire town for the 'round-the-clock celebrations of his latest victory, and you know he'd want to go out in style. The town generator linked not long ago spat out adventure seeds as well, although they were single, brief sentences and not nearly so much fun as these.

In case of repeats in the list:
