My friend has just started playing 3rd edition D&D with us, having only played a few sessions of Chaosium CoC before that. As the new player, he was of course saddled with the role of "you're the fighter, you get to shine for three levels, then suck for the rest of the game." We're in a 3 person party, two wizards & him.
Anyway, he's looking at going into manifesting to broaden his abilities, after realizing that hitting things with his hammer can only take him so far, and being a little jealous of us casters.
He's a hobgoblin (no LA), his stats are str 17, dex 18, con 18, int 14, wis 15, cha 10 (beginners luck, I guess).
He has two levels of fighter, with the feats power attack, cleave [from third level], exotic weapon proficiency: greathammer.
He just leveled up- what should his third and fourth levels be? Psion? Psychic Warrior? Should he go into War Mind or Illithid Slayer? Illithid Slayer would be a little problematic, since he has to kill a Mind Flayer (maybe we could refluff it), and War Mind has the advantage of not requiring any throwaway feats. War Mind unfortunately doesn't advance his will save, which he really needs to get up.
