View Full Version : Neverending Dungeon - John

The air surrounding you fairly hums with the residue of magic, an aftereffect of the spell that brought you to this place. A quick glance reveals that you are in a cramped, rectangular room, devoid of any life save for yourself. The sound of dripping water can be heard faintly, and the stone walls are slick with moisture. In complete defiance of logic, a torch is already lit, resting in a bracket by the sole door visible in the room.

There is a door at A-1, west side.

I cast Mage Armor and Nightshield as well as draw one eggshell grenade and open the door.

Tanaric
2009-11-20, 01:47 PM
As you lay your hand on the door, several hundred lines of crackling blue energy appear, surrounding the door and much of the adjacent wall in a spiderweb pattern. The energy leaps from the door to your hand, giving you quite a shock.

The previously hidden copper wires are now visible as thin black marks on the door, which they have charred quite thoroughly.

You take 1 point of electric damage.

Does that deal damage?

I walk carefully 5ft in, what do I see?

It deals 1 electric damage, as noted in the spoiler.

Opening the door reveals a hall that runs to the north and south. To the north, it runs for ten feet before turning east. To the south, it runs for forty feet before turning east.

lvl 1 sharnian

I go up the north hall and ready an action to blast it with a grease spell if I see anything.

Tanaric
2009-11-20, 06:39 PM
You trip over a tripwire five feet north of the door you just left. The sound of stone grinding on stone fills the air.

2009-11-20, 06:50 PM
So evil... :(

I try to keep going and rush to avoid whatever the noise is, turning around the corner.

I will change plans after I see how well this goes.

Tanaric
2009-11-20, 06:52 PM
At the bend, you see that the hall continues east for thirty feet before turning south. After ten feet there is a short (five foot) hall on the north side, ending in a door.

Go to the door in the short hallway and search it

There is a door at B-7 which you are standing just outside of, another at A-5, and a third at G-4.

There are three elves in the room. Two (2,3) are holding longswords, while the third (1) is holding a longbow. All are wearing studded leather armor, with bucklers strapped to an arm. Roll initiative.

My bad, changing target to the elf with a sword next to me in A6.

Is loredrake a feat or is it slotless like rituals, I didn't take Loredrake because I thought took a feat slot

Tanaric
2009-11-22, 09:11 PM
It's a mantle that true dragons can take on, and dragonwrought kobolds qualify on a technicality. I'd actually allow it if you wanted to take it once you die, since it gives me an excuse to use it too. :smallwink:

Sleep has a 1 round casting time, meaning the elves will all be able to pepper your hide with attacks before it goes off. Still want to do that?

lvl 1 sharnian
2009-11-23, 05:25 PM
Uh, I actually casted Cause Fear so that should still be okay right?

I was wondering why Loredrake wasn't banned... I might although the possibility of fighting some uber-kobold is frightening

Tanaric

The elf you targeted runs away as fast as he can, ending up in the northwest corner of the room.

The elf with the bow tries to use you as a pincushion. [roll0] for [roll1]

The elf with the longsword then moves into the doorway and tries to shishkabob you. [roll2] for [roll3]

John shudders as the arrow strikes him in the chest, but quickly regains his footing to dodge the sword attack from the second elf.

Can I 5ft step while disabled?

If so, 5ft step back and cast Cure Light Wounds on me [roll0]

If not, then the sword elf gets an attack of opportunity

Tanaric
2009-11-23, 09:06 PM
I believe you can, as a 5-ft step is a nonaction.

The elf with the bow moves in line with the door, then tries to shoot past his companion (you have soft cover): [roll0] for [roll1]

The one with the longsword then steps toward you and does a repeat performance: [roll2] [roll3]

He burns for you.

150 xp, 57 gp, 20 sp, and three sets of the following: longbow, longsword, buckler, studded leather. Also, 52 arrows.

lvl 1 sharnian
2009-11-24, 07:09 PM
I collect the gold in a pile in the middle of the room. Can I create a crude bag out of the studded leather?

I move the bodies of the elves infront of the door to block it and try to jam the door with the weapons (E.g. put a sword across it if it has protrusions from the wall, jam the swords under the door, jam the sword into the wood at an angle so the sword has to be dragged across the floor while opening the door).

Afterwards, I face the door with the wall to my back, eat a pack of trail rations, and try to get sleep to recover my spells and Kobold RoP spell-like.

Edit: I take cover behind the buckler while I sleep. Possible? With Slight Build, I'm treated as Tiny when it's advantageous. That's cat-sized so it should reasonable I could get cover behind a shield.

Tanaric
2009-11-25, 11:54 AM
What makes you think I'm going to let you rest after one battle? :smallconfused:

The doors are well-fitted sliding metal sheets without handles or other such things to brace stuff against. There are slight indents that serve as a method for sliding the doors open, but bracing anything against them would just cause it to slip out if much force was exerted. It's quite possible to bar them open, but there are no immediately obvious ways of keeping them closed.

lvl 1 sharnian
2009-11-25, 12:40 PM
:smallfrown: How thick is the metal?

Ok, how about I carve out one of the elves' stomach without messing up the armor and hide in the recess since I'm tiny-sized when beneficial.

Tanaric
2009-11-25, 12:41 PM
*blink*

What kind of check is that? Survival? :smallconfused:

lvl 1 sharnian
2009-11-25, 12:44 PM
Attack roll against a dead body?

But disease is possible...

I cast Purify Food and Water on the hollowed out elf!

A Hide check maybe?

Tanaric
2009-11-25, 12:53 PM
If you can find some rules for it in a book somewhere, then sure. Otherwise, no. :smalltongue:

lvl 1 sharnian
2009-11-25, 01:08 PM
Aww... what about justification? A kobold is tiny-sized while an elf is medium-sized.

Tiny is about cat-sized

According to Demilich, usually just a head. A medium sized head is dimunitive since medium creatures become Dimunitive sized when they turn to a demi-lich.

The stomach area is bigger than the size of a cat.

A coup-de-grace is an automatic critical hit.

A critical hit is a presumably a hit on a lethal area such as decapitation or stab in the heart.

Getting gutted is lethal. Since it's lethal, it can be called a critical hit.

A coup-de-grace can then be used to gut someone's stomach.

Since it's gutted out, I can inside and still breathe because there's no longer anything blocking the air.

A dead creature is treated as an object, so I can now cast Purify Food and Drink on it to prevent possible sickness or what not, atleast around the stomach area.

Justified?

If not, I hide in the darkest corner with my eyes to the door to rest to regain my spells.

Doesn't getting interrupted while resting still give partial spell slots?

Tanaric
2009-11-25, 07:50 PM
Nope. :smallwink: I might be persuaded with an awesome survival roll, but nothing else seems to cover the concept - certainly not a critical hit.

I've never heard of partial recovery, to be honest. Can you point me to where it says that?

lvl 1 sharnian
2009-11-25, 10:42 PM
Nvm, reread and I can't. However, it seems strange that spell slots are recovered at the end in one fell surge, rather than regained gradually like sleep IRL.

Sidetracking aside, I'll just do the same as before, hide in the NE corner with my eyes to door and get some sleep.

Tanaric
2009-11-29, 04:25 PM
Okay then. Make some listen checks with the sleep penalty.

Tanaric
2009-12-02, 08:50 PM
You don't see or hear anything out of the ordinary.

You posit that since you woke up before your assassin was in the room, that this might be the dungeon's equivalent of a warning message.

lvl 1 sharnian
2009-12-03, 07:22 AM
I pick up a longsword, gather the coins in a pile, and drag the pile with me into the hall.

Tanaric
2009-12-03, 04:42 PM
You see a hall that runs to the north and south. To the north, it runs for twenty five feet before turning west. To the south, it runs for fifteen feet before turning east. There is a door on the south face of this bend.

lvl 1 sharnian

Tanaric
2009-12-12, 01:21 PM
As you step onto the corner, two things happen at once.

The first is that you see that the hall continues west for ten feet before teeing to the north and south.

The second, and probably more important, is that two darts shoot out of the adjacent walls and attempt to use you as a target.

I just saw this in your sig. Sorry, the NED has some trouble, and Tanaric has left. I'm now the High DM.

I can carry this on if you wish, but you'd have to restart. I have no knowledge of the floor you're on, it was changed after you must've started playing.
