What is the deal with maneuvers and a swordsage? Can you pick things from multiple disciples or are you stuck with one? I was thinking of making a Swordsage with the shadow hand school and maybe (if I can) the diamond mind school as well.

You can pick from any number of disciplines. The only limitation is that you must meet the prerequisites for the maneuvers you wanna learn (minimum Initiator Level and often some number of known maneuvers from the same school).

Swordsage gets some abilities that focus on single school, but all that means is that they get some bonuses with stuff from that school (specifics depend on which of the abilities we're talking about); it doesn't limit them in any way and indeed, the whole shtick of the Swordsages is versatility. Their recovery is much worse than the other two classes' so they instead get a huge number of different maneuvers from a variety of schools and basically mix-and-match as they go (though you can mostly get a good recovery with Adaptive Style).

Hell, Swordsages get so many maneuvers that if you solely focus on a single school, you'll run out of maneuvers to take.
