How is Deathbringer DQ'ed, when it's Kil'ak's turn?

hustlertwo
2009-12-06, 03:33 PM
This does pose an interesting quandary. Technically, Lubirio's DQ is valid, as it was his turn. However, going just by the rolls, it appeared to be Kil'ak's. Only by reading Tanaric's post was it apparent that he mistyped his Init modifier, putting him last instead of third in the turn order. I think I'll overturn this one, and say play continues, and it's Deathbringer's turn. Lubirio being knocked out due to Tanaric's mistake seems a bit off.

Tanaric
2009-12-06, 03:58 PM
Well, I did post the correction right out in the open, but I don't want any DQs if we don't need them. *shrug*

Kil'ak, round 1

Starting in M-2, riding animal companion, holding a metric ton of scrolls in one hand. (Don't ask how.) Standard riding dog is in M-1, not wearing a saddle or its barding this time. Animal companion is wearing its saddle, but nothing else.

Move: Handle riding dog to seek southwest around the center platform, then south toward Chile's starting position, barking if it finds anything. [roll0] vs DC 10

Standard: Find a scroll of invisibility from somewhere in the pile and attempt to read it, failing on a 1: [roll1] vs DC 4. If successful, share spell with animal companion.

Not done.

Psionic Dog
2009-12-31, 09:36 AM
@Refs
The dog's orders are to find and attack anything unfamiliar to the south, emphasis on scent.

I suppose that could mean "run around blindly until you pinpoint" but I'll guess its more likely that the dog will take move action to note a scents direction whenever it has no other clues.

As such the dog takes a double move south to I-17 (5 ft into scent range) and stops. It would have used a move action to note direction at this point, but since it took a double move to get that far it will have to wait until the next turn to check for the scent's direction.

Kil'ak
Your AC moved south to I-17 this turn, you loose LoS to it as you move east toward O-5.

It is a little confusing the way Tanaric worded his character sheet, but his current animal companion is listed up in the "Feats and Specal Abuilities" section where it states:

The Swindlespitter is but one of his AC options, and was last used at the start of Round 73. Taneric added the stats to Kil'ak's character sheet at the request of one of his past opponents who didn't know what a Swindlespitter was.

Baleful Utterance on the saddle.
The saddle makes a DC 19 Will save or is destroyed

The spell can be cast on objects, which receive saving throws only if they are magical or if they are attended (held, worn, grasped, or the like) by a creature resisting the spell, in which case the object uses the creature’s saving throw bonus unless its own bonus is greater.
If that fails, then the dog makes a DC 19 Fort save or is Dazed 1 round and Deafened 10 rounds.

Please note: a ref needs to roll these saves. Kil'ak wouldn't know of my Baleful Utterance and since I'm targeting the saddle, the dog wouldn't either unless the saddle fails it save. Then the dog would know it's making a fort save, but Kil'ak still wouldn't know.

We just found that Kil'ak wasn't up, Farfelkugel and Deathbringer still need to go. Sorry for the massive confusion, I tend to do that a lot. :smallfrown::smallredface:

No worries, but... Farfelkugel was DQd and Deathbringer is dead. *pats head* I know this match is taking a while, but you were in it.

I'm not dead, when did that happen?

Edit: Oh wait, I see it now, but I get some reward. :smallfrown:

Chile, round whatever it is

I'm just going to lay here in a pool of my own self pity... and shoot the dog.

[roll1]

That incurs an AoO, my AC is -4 (11) for being prone, and I'm at -8 hp with rageclaws so I probably won't survive.

Done.

I am dead.

And the dog that had the riding saddle no longer has a riding saddle. I Shattered it, so make note on your sheet.

So, I just noticed a ref mistake. I'm not going to ask for a rewind because my chance of winning is so very slim and I don't want to stretch this out further than it's already gone.

The dog that was attacking me never rolled a spot check and therefore should have had a 50% miss chance instead of 20%. That's why I specifically asked if the dog was looking at me or sniffing at me. Scent pinpoints me but without a Spot success, it's like attacking an invisible creature. It would have made a difference because he also wouldn't have gotten an AoO from my movement.

Hmm... does the use of the SLA not break hide due to lack of components? I assumed by the fact that you bothered to re-hide afterward that using the Shatter would have broken it.

Oh yeah, my mistake.

All warlock invocations have somatic components. I forgot to break LoS after using it to re-establish hide. So everything was correct. Good game everyone.

Tanaric, don't forget about the saddle.

High Ref Sallera

Kil'ak suddenly realizes he is the only combatant still alive, and takes the victory.

Final standings:
1st: Kil'ak the Silvertongued
2nd: Chile VIII
3rd: Deathbringer
4th: Farfelkugel (DQ)
