Okay, so Elan evidently tripped over something, assuming it wasn't a rule of funny one shot.

What do you think it is? Silly allowed. Serious guesses should be spoilered.

My personal bet is on the Lamp containing the soul of an archmage, who will lead him underground on zany adventures to overthrow the High Inquisitor and restore magic to the world.

I've seen people say "mimic" several times, but Elan's luck would protect him from something that dire. I've also heard "the capstone to the pyramid" that is Gerard's dungeon (Sort of like The Lost City)

My guess? Elan will fall into a giant antlion's nest, charm the beast, and find the entrance to Girard's domain that way.

An illusion of a treasure chest that is actually the entrance to the dungeon containing the gate?

Elan is pretty lucky so I could see it, especially since it was just said there was no chance of it happening. Though I don't know why an Epic Illusionist would hide that so easily.

Good point, except clothing is very rarely made of metal. Unless you count armor as clothing, of course.

Actually a treasure chest -- the kind of thing to convince people looking in the area that the chest is what was in the area so they will move along.

You mean those annoying giant bugs that swarms out of the sand and tries to eat you whenever you aren't activly trying to splat them with your high-speed buggy (which in 50% of the cases will plunge into a pond and be rendered immobile until you blast it up again)? I sure hope that Elan has got some of that yucky substance that they seems to be so fond of.

I've been looking for this fabled sockerado for years! The place where all left socks go when it feel it is their time, though you most certainly don't.

I've always wondered. How do you tell which sock is supposed to be the left one? They're little cloth tubes. It don't follow that they differentiate based on sides other than up and down, what were indicated solely by presence or absence of a heel.

In other news, my attempt to indicate a speech pattern similar to John Cleese's incredulous parrot shop scene has failed. I hereby vote that Elan has found a parrot, deceased, in a cage in the treasure chest.

It's exactly like Roy said. If Elan walks around long enough, he will stumble across anything and everything. Silvadel's point is valid and that is why the chest contains:

Treasure.

The average PC says "Hey! We found it!" They then pack the treasure into their bags and wander back the way they came only to find later that the treasure has turned into sand. The treasure is an illusion.

For the OOTS, they are distracted by it for a few minutes but three members of the team are still searching via True Seeing.
