We've seen that since Soon's Gate was destroyed by Miko, the newly-freed rift grew to a massive size within the span of three months. This rift was described by Hinjo as being the smallest of the rifts sealed by the Order of the Scribble.

Hinjo went on to state that the rift in the Redmountain Hills protected by Dorukan's Gate was the largest of them all. Given that Dorukan's Gate was destroyed a few months or so before Soon's Gate was and that the rift behind it was already much larger to begin with, how large could the rift in the Redmountain hills be by now and what could the presence of such a massive fracture mean for those nearby?

Well, as long as we know there is no more snarl inside there because it has been replaced by a pretty cutty bubbly little planet.

So no big consequenses that I can think of.

The plot demands spectators. If the rift grows and there's no hero or villain to observe it than it probably didn't happen at all.

Also, the Redmountain Gate was destroyed by a planned self-destruct mechanism, while the Azure City gate probably wasn't meant to broken.

The Redmountain Gate was dozens of levels down in a dungeon. If there is a rift, its (presumably) safely buried under a few million tons of rubble and debris.

However, there is also Lirian's rift, which was sitting in the middle of the forest. That should be more interesting.

It's possible that the rifts grow based on how many total gates have been destroyed, too, so that the third gate destroyed results in the biggest rift. That would be consistent with the idea that if all five are destroyed, the world gets unraveled.

If something happens in fiction, and there is no more reference to it, is it still doing anything?

It both is and is not happening, until someone finally observes it and the quantum states collapse.

I got the impression that Lirian and Durokan's gates were "destroyed" whereas the Soon's was "unsealed"? Making me think that it's possible to close the rifts by using a lot of power, but when making the gates Lirian and Durokan didn't know if that sort of attempt would close the rift or rip it wide open.

Truely none of the bonus strips for Dungeon Crawling Fools comes even close to the brilliance of Shrodinger's Ninja.

And also was destroyed several more years ago, so should be even larger.:smalleek:

Nope. Redcloak said that the rift above Azure City had pretty much stopped growing. Which makes sense--if the rifts started to grow without limit as soon as the protecting Gates were destroyed, then Lirian's rift alone would be a clear and present danger to the safety of the world and the Sapphire Guard would have had to act.

Lirian's Gate is in the elven woods. I'm pretty sure someone would've noticed if it's gotten out of hand.
